    openIl presente lavoro si propone di rileggere una delle prime opere di Lorenzo de’ Medici, "Corinto", attraverso temi letterari che lo caratterizzano, tenendo presente i modelli latini, greci e italiani ai quali l’autore attinge e confrontandone altri, pertinenti ai temi analizzati. Dopo una rapida introduzione sul contesto storico in cui il poemetto si inserisce, esso viene presentato per quanto concerne il contenuto e la storia redazionale, approfondita nell’Appendice, dove si presentano inoltre i testi di riferimento. Segue dunque la nuova lettura critica. La riflessione sul concetto di classico e su Lorenzo quale autore e personaggio del poemetto conclude l’analisi.The present work aims to re-read one of Lorenzo de’ Medici’s first works, "Corinto", through the literary themes which characterize it, keeping in mind the Latin, Greek and Italian models on which the author draws and comparing others, pertinent to the themes analyzed. After a quick introduction to the historical context in which the poem fits, it is presented in terms of content and editorial history, detailed in the Appendix, where the reference texts are also presented. Thus follows the new critical reading. The reflection on the concept of classic and on Lorenzo as author and character of the poem concludes the analysis

    Improving Indoor Semantic Segmentation with Boundary-level Objectives

    While most of the recent literature on semantic segmentation has focused on outdoor scenarios, the generation of accurate indoor segmentation maps has been partially under-investigated, although being a relevant task with applications in augmented reality, image retrieval, and personalized robotics. With the goal of increasing the accuracy of semantic segmentation in indoor scenarios, we develop and propose two novel boundary-level training objectives, which foster the generation of accurate boundaries between different semantic classes. In particular, we take inspiration from the Boundary and Active Boundary losses, two recent proposals which deal with the prediction of semantic boundaries, and propose modified geometric distance functions that improve predictions at the boundary level. Through experiments on the NYUDv2 dataset, we assess the appropriateness of our proposal in terms of accuracy and quality of boundary prediction and demonstrate its accuracy gain

    Characterization of the overturning scenario of asymmetric rigid blocks under one-sine pulse excitation

    The dynamic behavior of rigid blocks has long been a central topic in Mechanics and Civil Engineering, especially since Housner’s pioneering work. Most studies have focused on symmetric blocks, which respond identically regardless of excitation direction. This model has been widely used to represent real objects such as cabinets, medical equipment, and artworks. However, many real-world blocks are asymmetric, with non-coincident geometric and mass centers, leading to different responses depending on the sign of excitation. To address this, the present study investigates the dynamics of asymmetric rigid blocks excited by one-sine pulse excitation, an area that remains relatively unexplored. The first part extends classical formulations to asymmetric blocks, deriving the rocking period and analyzing energy dissipation. The second part focuses on overturning mechanisms, building upon classifications developed for symmetric blocks. The findings highlight key differences in behavior, reveal previously unknown overturning modes in asymmetric blocks, and identify new scenarios even for symmetric blocks

    In June 2013, the European Medicine Agency recommended limiting codeine use in paediatric patients, creating a void in managing moderate pain. We reviewed the literature published in English (1985-June 2017) on the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and safety profile of ketorolac, a possible substitute for codeine and opioids, for treating moderate-to-severe pain. We found that gastrointestinal side effects were mainly reported with prolonged use, significant bleeding was reported in adenotonsillectomy, and adverse renal effects appeared to be limited to patients with specific coexisting risk factors

    An enduring palaeontological riddle: how many hippopotamid species roamed Sicily? The case study of Amoroso Cave

    Hippopotamus pentlandi, although lacking a comprehensive description, is regarded as one of the best known dwarfed hippopotamid species within the Mediterranean region. This study provides a detailed analysis of a hippopotamus mandible from Amoroso Cave (Palermo, Sicily). Morphological and morphometric comparisons with insular and continental species reveal a significant similarity between the Amoroso mandible and some specimens from San Ciro Cave (Palermo, Sicily), as well as with Hippopotamus amphibius. Conversely, material from Cannita Cave (Palermo, Sicily) attributed to H. pentlandi is less robust, more elongated and smaller. 3D geometric morphometric analysis performed on the symphyseal sagittal cross-section further support a closer morphological affinity of the Amoroso mandible to San Ciro Cave specimens and H. amphibius, suggesting an attribution to the latter. Our research reveals the presence of at least two different, potentially coeval, taxa in the Pleistocene of Sicily: the dwarfed Hippopotamus pentlandi primarily known from Cannita Cave, and H. amphibius. While Cannita Cave material has been thoroughly studied over the years, abundant remains from other localities, e.g. San Ciro Cave, require re-evaluation. A thorough analysis of Sicilian hippopotamids is crucial to improve our understanding of their systematics and to provide new insights into the palaeobiogeography, palaeobiology, and palaeoenvironment of Sicily during the Pleistocene
