Knowledge regarding smoking hazards among adolescents
Most smokers start smoking during their adolescence or early adult years. According to the World Health Organization WHO , there are approximately 120 million smokers in India. Approximately 9 lakhs people die every year in India due to smoking. A Quasi experimental with one group pre test post test design study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching Programme on smoking hazards among adolescents. Simple random technique was used to select 100 young adolescents and data was collected through structured knowledge questionnaire. The results revealed that mean percentage of posttest knowledge score 14.75 1.38 was higher than the mean percentage of pre test score 7.04 1.43 . Although there were no significant association found between selected demographic variables except friend smoking and family smoking with pre test knowledge score at the level of p 0.05.Hence the structured teaching Programme was significantly proved to be an effective method to improve the knowledge regarding smoking hazards among adolescent boys. Transformative leadership and learning in a janitorial curriculum for immigrant women.
In this collaborative action research study a researcher explored how a janitorial business curriculum and mentorship fostered transformative leadership and transformative learning in immigrant women. The purpose of the study was to empower immigrant women to find employment and nurture their economic independence. The collaborative action inquiry led to an understanding of how these immigrant women transformed in the process of co-constructing a janitorial work skills curriculum. The findings describe how learning experiences, curriculum, and mentoring activities empowered these women and brought a deep change in their learning and self-leadership capacity. The author presents a new understanding that developing adult learning programs in collaboration with the adults can create real-life changes. In this instance, there were changes in the participants thought about themselves, which empowered them to make improvements to benefit themselves, their families, and society. A convincing link was found between transformative leadership and transformative learning --Leaf ii.The original print copy of this thesis may be available here: http://wizard.unbc.ca/record=b186347
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Probe Confined Dynamic Mapping for G Protein-Coupled Receptor Allosteric Site Prediction
Targeting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) through allosteric sites offers advantages over orthosteric sites in identifying drugs with increased selectivity and potentially reduced side effects. In this study, we developed a probe confined dynamic mapping protocol that allows the prediction of allosteric sites at both the GPCR extracellular and intracellular sides, as well as at the receptor–lipid interface. The applied harmonic wall potential enhanced sampling of probe molecules in a selected area of a GPCR while preventing membrane distortion in molecular dynamics simulations. The specific probes derived from GPCR allosteric ligand structures performed better in allosteric site mapping compared to commonly used cosolvents. The M2 muscarinic, β2 adrenergic, and P2Y1 purinergic receptors were selected for the protocol’s retrospective validation. The protocol was next validated prospectively to locate the binding site of [5-fluoro-4-(hydroxymethyl)-2-methoxyphenyl]-(4-fluoro-1H-indol-1-yl)methanone at the D2 dopamine receptor, and subsequent mutagenesis confirmed the prediction. The protocol provides fast and efficient prediction of key amino acid residues surrounding allosteric sites in membrane proteins and facilitates the structure-based design of allosteric modulators.<br/
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
