    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    The work have been undertaken in this study is to synthesis and characterize Fe3O4-polymer nanocomposites which are having different morphological properties. Also, investigation of the adsorption and desorption behaviour of lysozyme onto Fe3O4-polymer nanocomposites have been studied. Fe3O4 nanoparticles, synthesized by in situ in polyacrylamide hydrogels, show super-paramagnetic behaviour and saturation magnetization of composite material have been tuned by changing the hydrogel conformation. Adsorption and desorption studies of lysozyme were followed by using pure water at room temperature via fluorescence measurements. Fluorescence measurements showed that, the composite materials adsorbed lysozyme molecules less than 20 s and higher monomer concentration of composite materials cause faster adsorption. Besides, structure of lysozyme molecules were not changed during the adsorption and desorption. As a result Fe3O4-polymer nanocomposites could be used for drug delivery, protein separation and PAAm gels could be used for synthesis of magnetic composites with varying magnetic properties.     CNTs based Water soluble fluorescent sensor for selective detection of Fe3+ ion

    Herein, a fluorescence sensor based on the fluorescence quenching phenomena was developed by the functionalization of Pyranine molecules over the surface of carbon nanotubes (Pry-CNTs) for quick, selective and sensitive detection of Fe3+ ion. The change in the emission along with the Fluorescence Quenching response was found linearly comparative to the Fe3+ ion concentration in the range of 0.1 - 10 mu M, with the limit of detection of 0.2 mu M. The Fluorescence study proved the coordination interaction between Fe3+ ion and Pry-CNTs lead to the recognition process. The developed fluorescence sensor is the simple and selective link for the determination of Fe3+ ion. The recovery of this method in the determination of Fe3+ ion in real water samples was found to be 99.5-100 %. This fluorescence sensor (Pyr-CNTs) can be used as a sensor for Fe3+ ion and promote for many applications in the environmental, chemical and biological systems

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Tuning the gel size and LCST of N-isopropylacrylamide nanogels by anionic fluoroprobe

    Varying size fluorescent N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) nanogels were synthesized from 140 to 550 nm by precipitation copolymerization. N,N-methylenebisacrylamide (BIS) and ammonium persulfate APS were used as cross-linker and initiator, respectively. 8-Hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic Acid (Pyranine, Py) molecules were used for controlling the particle size and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of nanogels. NIPAM, BIS and APS amount were kept constant and Py amount changed to tailor the particle size. Fluorescence spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and light scattering methods show that Py caused smaller size nanogels due to the electrically charged side groups. Additionally, as seen from the light scattering experiment, LCST of nanogels is getting decrease considerably with increasing Py amount. Using of Py for tuning, the gel size and LCST were found very useful, easy and effective way, and it can be used for many biomedical applications
