ACT and ADLAB PRO projects
This paper will present two on-going European projects funded under the Erasmus + scheme: ACT and ADLAB PRO. Both projects share an interest in defining the skills needed to provide access services, and in creating materials to actually train professionals. ACT, led by Pilar Orero at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2015-2018), has eight key steps: (i) profiling accessibility in Europe; (ii) defining the media accessibility manager profile; (iii) proposing a learning curriculum; (iv) developing, testing and implementing a MOOC; (v) searching certification strategies; (vi) developing guidelines on how to create an accessible co-production; (vii) developing an accessibility policy, and (vii) proposing how to implement an accessibility quality label. ADLAB-PRO, led by Elisa Perego at Università di Trieste (2016-2019), has six key steps: (i) assessing current audio description training practices; (ii) defining the profile of the audio description professional; (iii) designing a course; (iv) developing course content; (v) evaluating and testing, and (vi) course accreditation and recognition. The presentation will present both projects to the audience, highlighting the results achieved so far

Expanding translation training to accessibility : the ACT and ADLAB PRO projects
Vinculeu-ho, sisplau, a TransMedia Catalonia.Research on access services has been a central topic in the audiovisual translation field in recent years. Translation has been seen as a means of overcoming linguistic barriers, and audiovisual translation studies has been the field where many access services such as subtitling or audio description have been researched. Likewise, access services have been taught for many years now as audiovisual transfer modes in BA and MA courses. However, what has been lacking so far are large-scale training projects focusing on accessibility developed by audiovisual translation scholars in conjunction with industry partners and users. This is what the ongoing European projects ACT and ADLAB PRO are trying to achieve. This paper will present ACT and ADLAB PRO, two European projects funded under the Erasmus + scheme. Both projects share an interest in defining the skills needed to provide access services, and in creating materials to train professionals. ACT, led by Pilar Orero at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2015-2018), has the following aims: (i) profiling accessibility in Europe; (ii) defining the media accessibility manager profile; (iii) proposing a learning curriculum; (iv) developing, testing and implementing a MOOC; (v) searching certification strategies; (vi) developing guidelines on how to create an accessible coproduction; (vii) developing an accessibility policy, and (vii) proposing how to implement an accessibility quality label. The presentation will offer an overview of both projects to the audience and will discuss the relationship of accessibilityrelated training proposals to standard translation curricula
They both share the fact that they deal with accessibility and they generate online training resources. As far as ACT is concerned, the development of a MOOC to train accessibility managers for the scenic arts will be described. Regarding ADLAB PRO, we will discuss the development of online flexible and adaptable training materials which can be used to train audio describer
Museum audio description: the role of ADLAB PRO
Academic research on audio description (AD) originally focussed mostly on areas where there were clear barriers to accessibility for people with sight loss (PSL), particularly the description of screen products. Later, as audio description research moved from focusing on (dynamic) screen and stage productions into (static) fields such as museums, exhibitions, buildings, zoos, a new approach was required. Museum AD researchers and practitioners, who will be the focus of this chapter, had to get to grips with more fluid parameters related to type of presentation, type of visitor, time allotted and visitor attention span, the logistics of museum premises, the planning of tour itineraries, the collaboration with PSL, the use of tactile exploration and, more recently, the exploitation of other senses. The first part of this chapter will cover a number of the fundamental, critical aspects of museum AD that have been analysed and tested over the years, before leading into the second part which will illustrate the achievements of the European project ADLAB PRO, which include the designing of the professional profile of the audio-describer and the creation of didactic materials for the training of describers in all fields
Module 6 : Additional technical issues, developments and change
This module has been assigned 3 ECTS/ECVETS.Module 6 deals with 'Additional technical issues, developments and change', and it contains seven units: technology (for consumption) and technology (for delivery), audio description translation, text-to-speech systems, crowdsourcing and collaborative processes, new services and audiences, and accessible productions. The topics are diverse but share an interest in advances in technology, productions processes and new audiences
Module 4 : (Semi) live AD and recorded AD for static arts and environments
This module has been assigned 6 ECTS/ECVETS.Module 4 revolves around art description. Besides defining static arts, new museums and new audiences, it will teach you the strategies to describe an artwork both in isolation and embedded in a descriptive tour. The main features of touch tours, as well as of live vs. recorded ADs will be described to render you ever more independent in your activity as an art AD expert. Module 4 closes with a focus on stakeholders and on the endless research topics that can be studied in this fascinating subcategory of A
Pro-poor growth : A primer
These days it seems that almost everyone in the development community is talking about"pro-poor growth."What exactly is it, and how can we measure it? Is ordinary economic growth always"pro-poor growth"or is that some special kind of growth? And if it is something special, what makes it happen? The author first reviews alternative approaches to defining and measuring"pro-poor growth."He then analyzes evidence on whether growth is pro-poor, what factors make it more pro-poor (including the role played by both initial inequality and changing inequality), and whether the factors that make the distribution of the gains from growth pro-poor come at a cost to growth. The author identifies some priorities for future research.Poverty Reduction Strategies,Services&Transfers to Poor,Public Health Promotion,Economic Conditions and Volatility,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Achieving Shared Growth,Governance Indicators,Economic Conditions and Volatility,Inequality,Services&Transfers to Poor
