Tapping Economies of Scale and Scope in Consumer Cooperation - A Case Analysis of Possible Cooperation among selected Cooperatives
Because of its narrow and negative perspective of safeguarding the interests of only poor consumers against unethical practices of the private traders, consumer cooperation in India seems to have failed, except probably in some isolated pockets. A number of social welfare functions like poverty alleviation and public distribution of essential items of consumption have been imposed on them at the cost of their basic economics. With the basic micro and macro-economic rationale for consumer cooperatives as a positive form of economic organization being lost sight of, they seem to be facing enormous problems both historically as well as currently in a era of economic liberalization. Their worries seem to have been compounded with the threat of impending competition from large private enterpriss - both domestic and foreign, which highlights the need for evolving strategies to rectivy their systemic weaknesses and tackling the competition head on. This case has attempted to document just such an initiative through a round table conference with several doyens of the consumer cooperative movement in India such as Warana Bazar and Amalsad Mandali as well as some fledging consumer cooperatives from West Bengal which are already in existence for some time or contemplating entry into this field. The roundtable conference organized in the spirit of Cooperation among Cooperatives attempted to evolve strategies to capture economies of scale and scope in order to take on the competition, as well as to facilitate dissemination of ideas and information across the country.
Samir Amin : intellectuel organique au service de l'emancipation du sud
This book on Professor Samir Amin retraces his family origins, intellectual itinerary, political struggles as well as his experience in economic policy formulation in Egypt, Mali and many other countries. The fundamentals which shaped Samir Amin's thinking, directed his life-long work and influenced his action spawned from his early discovery in high school of Marxism and Historical Materialism, used as a scientific analysis of the history of human societies. This book also highlights Samir Amin's invaluable contribution to the struggle against capitalism through his indefatigable fight to deconstruct the concepts that are used to disguise the true face of historical capitalism, which is nothing but an unabashed pursuit for accumulation and dispossession of dominated countries and peoples. Through a series of interviews with Samir Amin, the author unravels the poignant and great ideas which have been at the heart of his intellectual and political fight for the last half century. The author also provides a selection of texts which includes an exhaustive bibliography, with all published writings of Samir Amin in French. This rich work is meant for a large readership - students, researchers, teachers, political leaders and citizens who are interested in the phenomenon of globalisation and its impact on the so-called 'under-developed countries

Report on The Seminar/Review On The National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) Aad Other Surveys Aad Studies On The Fisheries Of Samar Sea Catbalogan City, Samar, Republic of the Philippines October 11-12, 2016
The project “Strategies for trawl fisheries bycatch management” (REBYC-II CTI Project) is concluding. The significant result of the project in the Philippines is the Samar Sea Fisheries Management Plan (SSFMP) that is now functional through the Alliance of Local Government Units (LGU). Various studies, part of the project and outside the project, had contributed to the plan and its operationalisation. The seminar was to familiarise the stakeholders on the details of the studies that support the SSFMP. The National Stock Assessment Program of the BFAR with the National Fisheries Development and Research Institute (NFRDI) provided important stock estimates as a basis for the planning. The results of the oceanographic and demersal fishery survey of M/V DA-BFAR, the critical habitat study, gear catalogue and mapping of fishing areas and more importantly, the study on socio-economic status of trawlers in Samar Sea were shared. Results of some fishery studies done by the Samar State University were also discussed. It was concluded that such research studies need to be continued, and that the plan and implementation should continue to make use of the studies for effective management.
BACKGROUND
The Impact of Online Teaching and Learning on Faculty and Students at Higher Education Institutions after Covid-19 pandemic.
This thesis investigates the satisfaction of staff and students with online teaching and learning during the single delivery of online courses, as well as the consequences of relevant lessons, based on the Covid-19 experience. Inductive and deductive methodologies have guided this work. With the deductive technique, I employed quantitative data in addition to the literature review to assess the hypotheses behind this study, while with the inductive approach, I conducted interviews from which themes emerged.
In this thesis, I investigate the faculty's involvement in online teaching and learning during the Covid-19 epidemic, the effect of institutional support on faculty satisfaction, and the effect of online teaching and learning flexibility, communication, and participation on student satisfaction. I add to the continuing conversation on OTL by investigating how faculty members handled and adapted to the crisis during the Covid-19 outbreak, using the theories of crisis management, change management, and satisfaction theory as the framework for my inquiry. My results indicate that the pandemic expedited the adoption of online teaching and learning in Higher Education Institutions, however the post-pandemic future remains uncertain. The conversations emphasise how the pandemic may be utilised as a learning experience and how institutions will need to tailor this experience to enable online teaching and learning continuation after the epidemic. The research will provide HEI executives, practitioners, and policymakers with knowledge about the consequences of digital transformation in education
The Interplay of Institutional Support and Faculty Roles during the Covid-19 Pandemic: Implications for the future of Online Teaching and Learning
While the outcome of the Covid-19 pandemic was largely the same across higher education – a rapid transition to online teaching and learning – the processes and institutional support that led to this transition varied greatly. As such, the perception and anxieties experienced by faculty warrant exploration as these perceptions will likely dictate the future of online teaching and learning within higher education institutions. Through the use of tweets made during the pandemic and interviews with faculty, this study reveals that the emotional stress experienced by faculty when playing multiple, unfamiliar roles hinder implementation of online teaching and learning initiatives. This hindrance may in part be alleviated through well targeted institutional support
