The book aims to study public administrations with a focus on the Italian context. In particular, the work revise the most important areas that characterize public organizations: strategic planning and governance, the operative systems (such as internal controls, etc.) and finally the organizational structures. Concerning this last point the Author investigates the basic characteristics, the principles and the constraints which characterized the bureaucratic configuration of public organizations. Both dysfunctions and weaknesses of the bureaucratic model are discussed in order to: a) provide some recommendations about the “use” of the administrative-bureaucratic model and, b) propose and support an evolution of the bureaucratic model

CsI(Tl) infrared scintillation light yield and spectrum
Infrared emission from CsI(TI) excited by similar to 70 keV electrons was detected with an InGaAs PIN photodiode, Some parameters of infrared scintillation were studied. The emission spectrum is located between 1.55 and 1.70 mu m with a maximum at 1.60 mu m. The light yield of infrared scintillation is (4.9 +/- 0.3) x 10(3) photons/MeV. Infrared scintillation caused by 3 MeV alpha-particles is detected as well. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
Measurement of the light yield of infrared scintillation in xenon gas
The infrared scintillation yield from gaseous xenon excited by an cl source has been measured in the wavelenght range 0.7-1.6 mu m. The infrared light yield has been found to be greater than or equal to 2.1 x 10(4) ph/ MeV. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
The objective of this article is to analyze Christian Kracht's latest novel, "Die Toten" ("The Dead", 2016), from the perspective of textual and authorial staging, that is, examining the text in its linguistic configurations and intertextual relations; and the author in his mediatic presence - which he uses to stage himself in an ambiguous way and to establish relations between his authorial figure and the main character of his novel. The concepts of literary field (BOURDIEU, 1996) and that of paratext (GENETTE, 1989) offer a theoretical framework for this approach. It becomes apparent that Kracht, in "Die Toten", applies different strategies to reflect about his own work
Towards performance governance in the public sector and administrations at international level: three essays
The study moves from the international debates about performance-based public management systems and its purpose is to answer critical questions at both policy and administrative level through a cross-cutting issues approach (institutional-political, cultural and administrative) in multi-entity settings, such as, in particular, the United Nations System. Our main objective is indeed to explore the connection between (complex and inter-related aspects of) governance and performance and especially if/how the latter may be improved by “manipulating” the former within complex environments, thus designing a possible evolutionary path towards “performance management” and ideally “performance governance” where “power-sharing” and dynamic interactions between the network members are based on defined rules and shared objectives. Through a collection of three essays by the author herself, we therefore explore, through a qualitative methodological approach based on case-study, the functioning of public sector institutions and their societal impacts through improved policies and programs effectiveness across several levels: Employment Services at European level (chapter 1 section II); International Agencies – UNESCO (chapter 2 - section II); World-wide Organisations - United Nation System (chapter 3 – section II)
Performance Measurement Systems in Theatres: The Case of the Municipal Theatre of Ferrara
In recent years, cultural organisations have introduced and tested new management tools to achieve their institutional goals of efficiency, effectiveness and social cohesion. This process has been widely linked to New Public Management for public sector cultural organisations, but the introduction of these tools has been an interesting process in private cultural organisations too. This paper aims at considering more specifically one kind of management tools: performance measurement systems. Their goal is to give to the management a set of information of quantitative and qualitative nature that could guide the strategic choices in the long-term. With this work, we will consider the real possibilities of application of a good performance measurement system in cultural organisations, with a particular focus on theatres. Our research starts with the analysis of the theoretical framework of performance measurement systems and theatres management. The theoretical approach is supported by the analysis of a case study, the Municipal Theatre of Ferrara (Italy). In this way, we will try to verify and discuss opportunities and critical points implied by the introduction of a performance measurement system in theatres.New Public Management; Management Tools; Performance Measurement; Theatres; Municipal Theatre of Ferrara
A large liquid xenon time projection chamber for the study of the radiative pion decay
A 64 1 liquid xenon TPC has been operated for the detection and measurement of the low energy gamma rays from the decay pi(+) --> mu(+) + nu + gamma. We present a detailed description of the chamber, the readout electronics and data acquisition together with the measurement of the liquid xenon purity and time stability obtained during a period of about two months. The electron lifetime was always longer than 2.7 ms (95% C.L.) and no deterioration of the liquid purity has been observed. Such a purity level and stability have never been previously reported for a large volume liquid xenon chamber, making this technique mature for physical applications
