Symmetric functions and bijective identities
No full textOne of the latest interests of Combinatorics is the
development of a systematic theory of bijective proofs. In
this context the idea of proving identities among symmetric
functions by bijective arguments comes in again. The first
attempt of a systematic approach to this point of view is
thanks to G.C. Rota ( 3 1 , resumed later by P. Doubilet ( 2 ) and
developed by F.Bonetti, G.C. Rota, D. Senato and A. Venezia
in a paper which is yet to be published (1). In (1) two
complementary notions are introduced: Formal Polynomials and
Polynomial Species that are the key of a categorical setting
for bijective proofs of identities among symmetric functions.
In this paper a more general notion of Polynomial
Species is introduced, which permits us to extend the
techniques which we have used in (1) to the symmetric
functions in two sets of indipendent variables

No full textIn two papers published in 1968 G . C . Rota, carrying to
the limit the algebraic processes which Baxter and others introduced for the resolution of problems generated by theory of probability, shows that every identity in a Baxter algebra is equivalent to an identity between symmetric functions. In his second paper the Author proves,through combinatorial methods, classical identities between symmetric functions which translate identities in Baxter algebras of probability interest.
The concept of generating function of a function set, conveyed in
these papers, is developed later by Doubilet, Rota and Stanley
(see [ 4 ] , [9]).These Authors introduce a process for the construction of algebras of generating functions, both classical and innovative, for the resolution of enumerative problems.
Using the concept of generating function of a function set and
techniques involving the lattice o f partition of a set, Doubilet
(see [ 3 ] ) derives many of the known results and new ones about symmetric functions. In many cases Doubilet utilizes the Mobius inversion formula, but he also succeds in giving bijective proofs of identities between symmetric functions. These proofs consist essentially in an interpretation o f the functions that occur in the identities in terms of sets and in finding a bijections between them.
In this paper we use the theory of polynomial species (see [ l ] )
which gives a systematic approach to this kind o f proof. We prove with bijective arguments, some identities which occur among the classical bases of symmetric polynomials of degree n. The language is that of categories theory and this emphasizes the generality degree of the concept of species

No full textIl contributo esamina la professionalizzazione di un gruppo di operatori particolari, i mercanti d'arte, a Venezia nel corso dell'età moderna. Il processo di specializzazione nella vendita coinvolge, come è lecito aspettarsi, inizialmente i pittori, cui viene in genere concesso dai regolamenti corporativi il vendere la produzione propria. Ma, seguendo la crescente vocazione commerciale della città lagunare, più evidente a partire dai primi decenni del Seicento, attorno alla metà del diciassettesimo secolo iniziano a comparire personaggi specializzati soprattutto nella vendita - inizialmente pittori anch'essi, ma che mettono in mostra numerose opere 'di bottega', poi, a partire dal Settecento, veri 'mercanti d'arte' che, come denuncia anche il Coillegio dei Pittori, quasi non sanno tenere il pennello in mano.
Il contributo offre l'occasione di indagare l'affermarsi di una modalità di intermediazione tra domanda e offerta sul 'mercato' a partire da un caso specifico. Per i mercanti di dipinti veneziani in età moderna vengono infatti indagate le dinamiche, le fonti di ricerca, e le modalità di riconoscimento sociale e corporativo. Fenomeno a Venezia più tardo che in altre città italiane, i mercanti di quadri si affermano tuttavia ben presto come importante tassello della circolazione delle opere, anche di antiquariato
