    Essays on Plato's epistemology

    No full text
Through a careful survey of several significant Platonic texts, mainly focussing on the nature of knowledge, Essays on Plato’s Epistemology offers the reader a fresh and promising approach to Plato’s philosophy as a whole. From the very earliest reception of Plato’s philosophy, there has been a conflict between a dogmatic and a sceptical interpretation of his work and thought. Moreover, the two sides are often associated, respectively, with a metaphysical and an anti-metaphysical approach. This book, continuing a line of thought that is nowadays strongly present in the secondary literature – and also followed by the author in over thirty years of research –, maintains that a third way of thinking is required. Against the widespread view that an anti-dogmatic philosophy must go together with an anti-metaphysical stance, Trabattoni shows that for Plato, on the contrary, a sober and reasonable assessment of both the powers and limits of human reason relies on a proper metaphysical outlook

RETÓRICA E FILOSOFIA NO FEDRO DE PLATÃO: UMA CRÍTICA À LEITURA DE TRABATTONI

    No full text

Late occlusive in-stent restenosis of a bare-metal stent presenting with ST-elevation anterior MI : is restenosis better than a late stent thrombosis?

    No full text
In-stent restenosis (ISR) occurs in 20% to 40% of de novo coronary lesions treated with bare-metal stents (BMS), depending on lesion and patient-related factors. Drug-eluting stents coated with antiproliferative agents, represent a valid rationale for treatment and prevention of recurrent ISR, with low MACE rates. However, case reports and observational studies reported a definite increase in the incidence of late stent thrombosis after drug-eluting stents use, particularly in off-label cases and after clopidogrel withdrawal. The case we present shows target vessel occlusion occurring at the site of a previously implanted BMS, suggesting that in-stent restenosis was the main pathological mechanism leading to abrupt thrombotic vessel closure and acute myocardial infarction

Necessary Architecture Raw Earth Solutions for a Common House in Niger

    No full text
Niger is sand, light, and heat. Along with studying the country’s environmental and geographical conditions, the book discusses raw earth architecture in vernacular and contemporary contexts. A number of the most common techniques are described. The possibilities of these methods of adapting to the contemporary language of architecture without losing the technical and physical benefits inherent in them are illustrated. The book embraces topics that are not common but highly relevant in the Developing World, like identity through the evolution of architecture and the value of transmitting knowledge related to the vernacular building process. Nowadays, Niger’s condition is characterized by a lack of resources, both physical and cultural. Earthen technology appears as a reasonable solution for creating an environmentally sustainable approach in this situation. The book aims to overview the possibility of realizing new buildings related to the climate and traditional context, facing vernacular technology and solutions in a contemporary application. Providing a balance between teaching vernacular knowledge and the contemporary architectural language could help face this out-of-resource situation, aiming to get comfortable and affordable living spaces

Che ruolo giocano le matematiche nella metafora della linea?

The paper investigates a section of the so called metaphor of the «divided line» (Republic, 510b2-511b11). First, a new translation of the first lines of the text is proposed, on the basis of the Sling's recent edition and with slight modification of the punctuation. Secondly, the author argues that the reference of the mathematics and of the geometrians' methods has to be regarded not so much as if Plato was actually criticizing them, but as a telling example of the incorrect way of understanding intellectual cognition. This incorrect way of knowing consists in claiming to grasp the ideas through an intellectual insight fashioned on the model of sensible vision. It is incorrect because according to Plato human insight cannot be but sensible. Such a conclusion confirms the hypothesis, endorsed by several scholars, that according to Plato even the highest kind of cognition that human beings dispose of is not intuitive but discursive
