    Decane hydroconversion with Al–Zr, Al–Hf, Al–Ce-pillared vermiculites

    No full text
A series of vermiculites pillared with mixed precursors of Al–Zr, Al–Hf and Al–Ce were obtained from natural vermiculite subjected to a process of negative charge reduction through hydrothermal treatment. The catalytic activity of the solids evaluated in the decane hydroconversion, was superior to that of recognized pillared clays and comparable to those of very active catalysts such as zeolites USY. The distributions of profiles of the reaction products suggest that the porosity/pore architecture of the pillared vermiculites should be similar to that of ultrastable Y zeolites

The automated grading of R code snippets: Preliminary results in a course of health informatics

    No full text
Automated grading tools either execute the submitted code against sample data or statically analyse it. The paper presents a tool for the automated grading of R code snippets, submitted by students learning Health Informatics in the degree course of Medicine and Surgery of the University of L’Aquila (Italy). The tool performs a static analysis of the R commands, with the respective output, as well as of the sentences written in natural language. The paper details the problem in general and through examples. Then, it describes the proposed solution and reports on the comparison between the automated grading and the human one. Finally, the paper ends by describing the foreseen use of the tool and the needed improvements

Literature, Covid-19 and Human Greed: A Socialist Realism Analysis of Taufiq al-Hakim’s Short Story “Daulah al-‘As}a>fi>r”

    No full text
The article aimed to discover whether the element of Taufiq al-Hakim\u27s imagination regarding human greed had relevance to the social reality of society, or is it merely an expression of personal imagination that was not related to the social environment of society? To answer this problem, the researcher used the text analysis method with the main corpus of the short story “Daulah al-‘As}a>fi>r.” The theory used in analyzing this text was socialist realism assisted by a literary ecological approach. The analysis showed that Taufiq al-Hakim\u27s imaginative criticism through his sparrow symbol against human greed had a close relevance to the phenomenon of contemporary human life today, like Covid-19 pandemic. Such pandemic was a natural reaction to human greed who had exploited fellow humans and their environment. It was also reinforced by the fact that all big and powerful countries in the world were overwhelmed to overcome Covid-19. This study recommended that humans should not be greedy, so that the balance of nature can be maintained properly

A prototype of an Electronic Pegboard Test to measure Hand-Time Dexterity with impaired hand functionality

    No full text
This paper proposes an electronic prototype of the Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT), which is normally used to test the presence of hand dexterity. The prototype imitates the geometrical dimensions of an on-the-market GPT device, but it is electronic, not manual like the one available now for users. The suggested electronic GPT device makes automated time calculation between placing the first and the last peg in their designated locations, instead of manually observing a stopwatch normally used during the GPT. The electronic GPT prototype consists of a fabricated wooden box, electronics (switches and microcontroller), and liquid crystal display (LCD). A set of 40 normal volunteers, 20 females and 20 males, tested the designed prototype. A set of six volunteers with chronic medical conditions also participated in evaluating the proposed model. The results on normal volunteers showed that the proposed electronic GPT device yielded time calculations that match the population mean value of similar calculations by the GPT device. The one-sample t-test showed no significant difference in calculations between the new electronic GPT and the manual GPT device. The p-value was much higher than 0.05, indicating the possible use of the suggested electronic GPT device

The problem of mu?allil is quite an interesting problem, because in mu?allil practice there is what is known as mu?allil engineering. In responding to this, the scholars differed slightly in opinion, there were a few who allowed it, with enough permission. Seeing this, the author feels interested in examining more deeply the purpose and wisdom of the requirement of mu?allil in three divorces. To examine these goals and wisdom, the author traces through the book of commentaries al-Ta?r?r wa Tanw?r by Ibn Asyur, namely a scholar who focuses on Maq??id al-Syar?\u27ah. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a focus on library research in which the object of study is the book al-Tahr?r wa al-Tanw?r by Ibn \u27Asy?r using the content analysis method, namely analyzing the content of Ibn Asyur\u27s description/interpretation in the book Tafsir al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir The results of this study are that the goals and lessons of mu?allil are as follows, first, is a preventive measure so that husbands do not take the issue of divorce lightly. Second, so that the husband does not treat his wife arbitrarily, does not belittle her and make her a toy in her home. Third, as an \u27iqab or torture for a husband who belittles his wife\u27s rights, because the husband will feel tormented knowing that his wife, who is still loved, is slept with by another man. Fourth, as a lesson for husbands, so that they are aware of the difficulty of marrying a woman who is in another man\u27s marriage so that it is not easy to divorce. The problem of mu?allil is quite an interesting problem, because in mu?allil practice there is what is known as mu?allil engineering. The dynamical influences of a hard transition zone on post-glacial uplifts and rotational signatures

    No full text
Recent investigations from laboratory and Monte-Carlo inversion of geophysical signatures have suggested that the transition zone of the mantle between 400 and 670 km depth may be stiffer than the lower and the upper mantle. By means of a five-layer viscoelastic spherical Earth model, we have calculated the displacement fields associated with post-glacial rebound, the induced polar motions, the temporal variations of the coefficients of the geopotential up to degree eight and the stress fields induced by deglaciation in the lithosphere and the upper mantle. Temporal variations of stress fields in the lithosphere reveal a non-monotonic behaviour due to the viscosity stratification. The results demonstrate the importance of the coming LAGEOS II geodetic satellite mission on constraining the rheological nature of the transition zone in the mantle. -from Author
