NO2 can be monitored using gas sensors based on multi-layered graphene operating at ambient temperature. However, reliable detection of concentrations on the order of parts per million and lower is hindered by partial recovery and lack of reproducibility of the sensors after exposure. We show how to overcome these longstanding problems using ultraviolet (UV) light. When exposed to NO2, the sensor response is enhanced by 290 % − 550 % under a 275 nm wavelength light emitting diode irradiation. Furthermore, the sensor’s initial state is completely restored after exposure to the target gas. UV irradiation at 68 W/m2 reduces the NO2 detection limit to 30 parts per billion (ppb) at room temperature. We investigated sensor performance optimization for UV irradiation with different power densities and target gases, such as carbon oxide and ammonia. Improved sensitivity, recovery, and reproducibility of UV-assisted graphene-based gas sensors make them suitable for widespread environmental applications.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN)Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos y Transformación Digital (MINECO)Comunidad de MadridConsejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC)Depto. de Física de MaterialesFac. de Ciencias FísicasTRUEpu
Crystallization Kinetics of Organic–Inorganic Trihalide Perovskites and the Role of the Lead Anion in Crystal Growth
© 2015 American Chemical Society. Methylammonium lead halide perovskite solar cells continue to excite the research community due to their rapidly increasing performance which, in large part, is due to improvements in film morphology. The next step in this progression is control of the crystal morphology which requires a better fundamental understanding of the crystal growth. In this study we use in situ X-ray scattering data to study isothermal transformations of perovskite films derived from chloride, iodide, nitrate, and acetate lead salts. Using established models we determine the activation energy for crystallization and find that it changes as a function of the lead salt. Further analysis enabled determination of the precursor composition and showed that the primary step in perovskite formation is removal of excess organic salt from the precursor. This understanding suggests that careful choice of the lead salt will aid in controlling crystal growth, leading to superior films and better performing solar cells. The authors acknowledge financial support from the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Basic Energy Sciences, under Award DE-SC0010560. Multidimensional space of philology
The review is dedicated to the book by V. S. Krivonos, a well-known literary scholar, researcher of N. V. Gogol’s work and the Russian literature of the 19th-21st centuries, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of Samara State Social and Pedagogical University. The monograph, which has an unusual title for academic literary criticism, reveals different aspects of the scholar’s interests: it contains academic articles, research on the history of philological science, and closes with an unexpected section “On the Borders of Philology and Literature”, where the author acts as a witty mystifier and stylizer. The book has a tense internal plot, the three main sections of the monograph are united by recurrent motifs that are revealed in different ways in historical, literary and biographical contexts. The first section of the book, in line with classical literary criticism, is dedicated to the analysis of prose of the 19th-20th centuries, from Bestuzhev-Marlinsky to Sasha Sokolov. The defining and unifying feature of the majority of the articles here is the clearly verified interrelation of the historical and theoretical approaches to text analysis. The articles included in the section, on the one hand, demonstrate the unique specific features of this or that author’s oeuvre, on the other hand, they show the organic unity of the writers’ works, which the researcher looks at largely through Gogol’s “optics”. The second section contains valuable research and biographical materials about the greatest philologists who influenced the author: A. P. Skaftymov, B. F. Egorov, Yu. N. Chumakov. The study of the “text of fate”, the understanding of the role of chance and the problem of choice in the biographies of outstanding Russian literary scholars unite this section with the first, where these topics are analyzed on the material of literary texts. In the third section, the author enters into a lively dialogue with the heroes of his research, presenting to the reader possible continuations of the plots of classical and modern literature
Gastronomic picture of the world in works by A. P. Chekhov
Culinary and gastronomy vocabulary and its functioning in the language has attracted attention of linguists lately. National gastronomic preferences retain their specific character and are reflected in the language. Axiological picture of the world is built in each lingual culture on the basis of a conceptual picture of the world which is actualized in the language of the nation. The primary and basic sphere of appearance and existence of cultural values is a mode of life with its vitally important element — gastronomy which is understood as the complex of processes of acquiring, cooking and consuming food. Literary text reflects a language personality of a writer, it serves as an adequate translator of national concepts creating the image of a national picture of the world. We suppose that reality which has passed through the prism of a creative thought is reflected in the language personality of an author. Literary picture of the world contains the image of the world, reflects the person’s existence through the literary text. Addressing the works of a famous Russian author A. P. Chekhov gives us an opportunity to single out the peculiarities of his language personality and to see in the individual style of his works the distinctive features of the whole nation.
