No full textLa vita di Samuel Johnson scritta da Giorgio Manganelli, nell’edizione critica di Salvatore Nigro, pubblicata dall’editore Adelphi (2008), è un racconto lungo preparato per una serie di trasmissioni radiofoniche. È la biografia del grande critico inglese del Settcento con il quale Manganelli si identificava. L’edizione è basata sugli autografi dello scrittore, ed è stata immediatamente pubblicata (insieme al saggio critico-filologico del curatore)in traduzione francese, nella prestigiosissima collezione Le Promeneur dell’editore Gallimard. L’edizione di Nigro fa parte di un progetto, che prevede la pubblicazione presso Adelphi di tutti gli inediti di Manganelli. Oltre alla Vita di Samuel Johnson, all’interno del progetto Adelphi, Nigro ha pubblicato (sempre accompagnati da saggi critico-filologici) due grossi volumi di racconti inediti di Manganelli: La Notte (1996) e Ti ucciderò, mia capitale (2011).Giorgio Manganelli’s La vita di Samuel Johnson (ed. Salvatore Silvano Nigro, Milano, Adeplhi (2008) is a long narrative originally devised for a series of radio broadcasts. It is a biography of the great English critic with whom Manganelli identified himself. The edition is based on the author’s autographs and, as soon as it was published by Adelphi, it appeared in French translation in Gallimard’s prestigious series “Le Promeneur”. Nigro’s edition is part of Adelphi’s programmed publication of the complete works by Manganelli. As far as this editorial project is concerned, Salvatore Silvano Nigro has curated two volumes of unpublished short stories by Manganelli: La notte (1996), and Ti ucciderò, mia capitale (2011)
Fire resistance evaluation through fragility curves
No full textSince the FSE has been introduced, designers have been equipped with tools that allow optimising
the performance of structures in fire. Vulnerability assessment, evaluated by stochastic approach
has become of increasing interest in the international research, also driven by insurance company
needs. The paper shows the application of probabilistic tools for assessing mechanical behaviour at
elevated temperature of common structural typologies (i.e. steel, concrete and composite beams
with or without axial restraints) at different load levels. The fluid dynamic aspects are included in
the statistical analysis, with natural fires selected in order to analyse the influence of the specific
fire load and the ventilation condition of the compartment by means of a two-zone model. Results
are summarized in fragility curves giving time collapse or maximum displacement limit state
attainment. In future, fragility curves could be built for complex structures to provide a tool for
insurance companies that allows rapid assessment of structural vulnerability to fire
Performance of steel-concrete composite bridges in fire
No full textIn assessing the damage on bridges caused by a fire, we should not only consider the possibility of
structural collapse, which often is avoided thanks to the beneficial effect of the ventilation that cools
the hot fumes propagating during fire. Indeed checks on the maximum deflection that the structure
can undergo during fire can be more significant for the functionality after fire of electrical, gas and
water systems often included in the bridge structures connecting different urban and extra urban
areas. Therefore, fluid dynamic and thermomechanical numerical analyses were performed to
simulate the behavior of typical bridges of the national highway during a fire, to identify possible
fire risk mitigation for avoiding the collapse of the structures and the damage of the facilities

No full textL’amico gesuita di Mario Soldati (a cura di Salvatore Silvano Nigro, nelle edizioni Sellerio: 2008, pp. 194) non è una semplice ristampa dei racconti di Mario Soldati. È invece un’edizione fililogicamente ricontrollata e ricostruita attraverso le varie tappe di composizione e di parziale pubblicazione su giornali e riviste. Un saggio introduttivo e una Nota al testo contestualizzano i racconti, storicamente e letterariamente. Il volume fa parte di un vasto progetto, che si è scommesso nella riscoperta di Mario Soldati. Si inserisce in una serie di opere di Soldati filologicamente e criticamente curati, sempre per l’editore Sellerio, da Salvatore Silvano Nigro: America primo amore (2003); Fuga in Italia (2004); La verità sul caso Motta (2004); La finestra (2005); La giacca verde (2005); Il padre degli orfani (2009). I Meridiani della Mondadori hanno riproposto queste opere, riproducendo le edizioni critiche di Nigro.Mario Soldati’s L’amico gesuita (ed. Salvatore Silvano Nigro, Palermo, Sellerio, 2008, pp. 194) is not just a simple reprint of Soldati’s short stories. It is, instead, a completely new version of the work, philologically revised and reconsidered thanks to the parallel analysis of the many compositional stages and partial publications of the short stories in newspapers and journals. Aim of the critical introduction and of the note to the text is to place the short stories in context, both from an historical and a literary perspective. The volume is part of a larger project whose goal is to revive the interest in Soldati’s work and it cooperates with other new critically and philologically reliable versions of Soldati’s works, all edited by Salvatore Silvano Nigro, and published by Sellerio (i.e., America primo amore (2003); Fuga in Italia (2004); La finestra (2005); La giacca verde (2005); Il padre degli orfani (2009)). Mondadori, upon publishing these works in volume in the “I Meridiani” series, has used Nigro’s edition of the texts

Un esperimento ( a cura di Salvatore Silvano Nigro, nelle edizioni Sellerio: 2007, pp. 156) è un trattamento cinematografico inedito (e sconosciuto) di Giorgio Bassani che, scritto nel 1955, si presenta come una storia milanese coeva alla composizione delle Cinque storie ferraresi dello scrittore. Una introduzione critica, una Nota al testo e due Appendici, ricostruiscono il dibattito attorno ai Promessi Sposi di Manzoni negli anni Cinquanta, con il recupero di molte testimonianze inedite (una di queste, il saggio Criteri di massima per la sceneggiatura di un film dei Promessi Sposi di Riccardo Bacchelli, è stato pubblicato a parte, con accompagnamento critico, nella rivista «La Modernità Letteraria», 2, 2009). Il libro dà un contributo fondamentale allo studio del manzonismo bassaniano e alla conoscenza dell’interesse per Manzoni da parte del cinema italiano.I Promessi Sposi. Un esperimento (ed. Salvatore Silvano Nigro, Palermo, Sellerio, 2007, pp. 156) brings forth an unknown and unpublished cinematographic treatment of Manzoni’s novel by Giorgio Bassani. Written in 1955, it is a ‘story from Milan’, parallel to the coeval Cinque storie ferraresi by the same author. The critical introduction, with the note to the text and the two appendices, discloses the dynamics of the Italian debate on the Promessi Sposi during the Fifties, availing itself of many unpublished documents—one of whom, the essay “Criteri di massima per la sceneggiatura di un film dei Promessi Sposi” by Riccardo Bacchelli, was published with a critical introduction in “La Modernità Letteraria”, 2, 2009). I Promessi Sposi. Un esperimento offers, then, a fundamental contribution to the study of Bassani’s ‘manzonism’ and of the Italian cinematographic industry’s interest in and knowledge of Manzoni
