Didactical Principles of Using Open Source GIS for Thesis Writing at the Faculties of Geography and Environment

While writing term papers and/or thesis, students often deals with certain methodological difficulties caused by search for necessary data, materials and selecting the best software. This papers contributes to the question of finding optimal solutions in such problems. Namely, it suggests that all practical works at the geoscience faculties should be based on the open source GIS and data. Freely available data and resources provide effective methods for processing materials, such as thematic maps, atlases, databases and literature sources. The effectiveness of the open source approach is based on the fundamental objectivity of the GIS principles, semiotics of the cartographic visualization of the natural environment phenomena. Using open source data and tools students can effectively perform environmental analysis and assessment, for example, ecological stability of the water areas, spatial analysis of the marine and coastal ecosystems. The fundamental principle of the open source GIS lies in the availability: students can make thematic maps both in the classrooms and at home as independent young researchers. The use of open source GIS techniques for writing thesis or term papers in geographical faculties is a promising and sound scientific and practical approach, providing a high level of study intensity, transparency of the data sources.P. No full textOpinnäytetyö on toteutettu Office Training P. Klimenko Ky:n toimeksiannosta. Työn tarkoituksena on selvittää mahdollista toiminnan laajentamista varten atk-koulutuspalvelujen kysyntä sekä Lohjalla että muulla Uudenmaan alueella, muiden mahdollisten atk-palveluiden kysyntä, yrittämiseen liittyvät riskit, mahdollisen henkilökunnan palkkauksesta aiheutuvat vastuut ja velvollisuudet sekä yritysmuodon merkitys yritystoiminnassa. Opinnäytetyö jakaantuu teoriaan,
markkina- ja kilpailutilannetutkimukseen sekä yhteenvetoon. Opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on antaa toimeksiantajalle pohjaa päättää, mitä hän yrityksellään tekee; jatkaako nykyisellä mallilla, laajentaa vai kenties lopettaa yritystoiminnan kokonaan.
Teoriaosuudessa on käsitelty pk-yrittäjyyttä, yrittäjän profiilia ja yritystoimintaa, riskejä, työnantajayrittäjyyttä, yritysmuotoja sekä markkinatutkimusta. Markkinatutkimus toteutettiin kvantitatiivisena Survey–kyselymenetelmänä. Kilpailutilannetta tutkittiin toimialatilastojen perusteella.
Tutkimus toteutettiin sekä e-lomakekyselynä että haastattelemalla lohjalaisia yrittäjiä. Kyselyissä selvitettiin, onko yritys kiinnostunut ostamaan toimeksiantajan tarjoamia atk-palveluita sekä onko yritys viimeisen kolmen vuoden aikana ostanut kyseisiä palveluita. Lisäksi selvitettiin kiinnostusta ostamaan muita atk-palveluita.
Yhteenvedossa on peilattu case-yrityksen toimintaa selvitettyyn teoriaan sekä markkina- ja kilpailutilannetutkimuksien tuloksiin. Case-yritys on tyypillinen yhden henkilön pk-yritys, jonka suurin riski on yrittäjän oma terveys ja jaksaminen. Yritystoiminnan muuttaminen päätoimiseksi yrittäjyydeksi ja ryhtyminen työnantajayrittäjäksi vaatii vankkaa sitoutumista.
Markkina-tutkimuksen perusteella case-yrittäjän tarjoamille atk-kursseille on kysyntää erityisesti jo kursseja käyneiden joukossa. Lohjan alueen kasvuhakuisuuden olettaisi luovan lisää kysyntää.Case Office Training P. Klimenko Ky –expansion of the business
This thesis has been completed in co-operation with Training P. Klimenko Ky. The main pur-pose is to examine demand for the automatic data processing training services and some other automatic data processing services in Lohja and elsewhere in the Uusimaa area, the entrepreneur’s risks, employer's liabilities and the effect of company form for entrepreneurship. This thesis has been divided into theory, market and competition research, and a summation of the thesis. The purpose of this thesis is to introduce our applicant base to decide how to operate the company: continue as usual, expand or close the business.
The theoretical section involves small and medium-sized enterprises, the profile of the entrepreneur and entrepreneurship, risks in entrepreneurship, the profile of the employer, company forms, and the market research. The market research is realized by a quantitative method. The competition in markets was researched using the business statistics.
The research was realized with an internet form and by interviewing entrepreneurs in Lohja. The intention of the research was to make clear if the company is interested in buying automatic data processing services and if the company has bought these services within the last three years. It also defines if the company is interested to buy other automatic data processing services.
In the summation of the thesis the case-company´s business operation has been compared with theory, marketing and competition research results. The case company is a typical one-person small and medium-sized enterprise, where the biggest risk is the owner´s own health. To change that entrepreneurship to a full-time activity and being an employer requires a strong commitment. Based on market research there is a demand for these automatic data processing courses the case-company offers especially among those companies which had already bought courses. Because Lohja is an expanding area, it should increase the demand

Klimenko carried out a comprehensive scientific study, including historical and archival and bibliographic sources, as well as materials of field research, and made the most reliable graphic reconstruction of the object. The materials of the study may become the basis for further work, including the restoration project of building and its adaptation to the modern conditions of city life
Fast and Exact Convex Hull Simplification
No full textGiven a point set P in the plane, we seek a subset Q ⊆ P, whose convex hull gives a smaller and thus simpler representation of the convex hull of P. Specifically, let cost(Q,P) denote the Hausdorff distance between the convex hulls CH(Q) and CH(P). Then given a value ε > 0 we seek the smallest subset Q ⊆ P such that cost(Q,P) ≤ ε. We also consider the dual version, where given an integer k, we seek the subset Q ⊆ P which minimizes cost(Q,P), such that |Q| ≤ k. For these problems, when P is in convex position, we respectively give an O(n log²n) time algorithm and an O(n log³n) time algorithm, where the latter running time holds with high probability. When there is no restriction on P, we show the problem can be reduced to APSP in an unweighted directed graph, yielding an O(n^2.5302) time algorithm when minimizing k and an O(min{n^2.5302, kn^2.376}) time algorithm when minimizing ε, using prior results for APSP. Finally, we show our near linear algorithms for convex position give 2-approximations for the general case

El artículo presenta resultados de la investigación realizada como el trabajo de grado para optar el titulo de psicólogo. El objetivo del estudio fue dirigido a indagar por la incidencia de la intervención familiar mediante un ciclo de Escuelas de Padres en los puntajes en la escala de motivación escolar obtenidos por los niños de primero de primaria del Colegio Celestin Freinet. La investigación llevada a cabo fue de enfoque cuantitativo con un diseño preexperimental con la aplicación de preest y postest, utilizando la escala de motivación escolar diseñada por Klimenko &Alvarez (2009). Los resultados del estudio mostraron un aumento significativo estadísticamente en tres tipos de motivación de cuatro evaluados: motivación epistemológica, motivación de tarea y motivación de logro. En cuanto a la motivación de esfuerzo, aunque hubo un aumento en puntajes al nivel general en el grupo, este no fue significativo estadísticamente. Los resultados obtenidos confirmaron la hipótesis propuesta por el estudio y demostraron que un acompañamiento, basado en la adecuada mediación cognitiva y afectivo-motivacional de las actividades de aprendizaje de los niños tiene un efecto significativo en la respectiva motivación frente al proceso de estudio escolar.

Abstract
The article presents results of research realized as the work of grade of psychologist. The objective of the study was conducted to explore the incidence of family intervention through a cycle of parent schools in school motivation scale scores obtained by children of the first grade of school Célestin Freinet. The research has quantitative approach with experimetal design and application of preest and posttest, using the scale of school motivation designed by Klimenko & Álvarez (2009). The results of the study showed a statistically significant increase in three types of motivation of four evaluated: epistemological motivation, task motivation and achievement motivation. In terms of the motivation of effort, although there was an increase in scores on the general level in the group, this was not significant statistically. The results confirmed the hypothesis proposed by the study and showed that an accompanying, based on appropriate cognitive and emotional and motivational mediation of children's learning activities has a significant effect on respective motivation for the school study process.
