Oral History Interview with Gerold (Jerry) Haynes, September 29, 2000
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Gerold (Jerry) Haynes. Haynes grew up in Mississippi and went to Memphis, Tennessee to join the Navy in 1939. He was assigned to the USS California and went to Pearl Harbor. The California was bombed December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Haynes describes the recovery efforts. In March 1942 he was reassigned to the USS Sante Fe (CL-60). He was on a 5 in/38 gun. He discusses sinking a ship in the San Bernadino Strait. In 1945, he rescued two survivors from the USS Franklin and received a citation. He describes the experience of pulling survivors from the ocean. NOTE: Haynes identified the USS Tingey (DDS-539) but the action described (Attu, Tarawa, USS Franklin rescue) supports the USS Santa Fe (CL-60)

BALLER-GEROLD SYNDROME ASSOCIATED WITH DEXTROCARDIA
Baller-Gerold syndrome associated with dextrocardia: Baller-Gerold Syndrome (BGS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder that is apparent at birth. The disorder is characterized by distinctive malformations of the skull and facial area and bones of the forearms and hands. We report a 4 year old boy in whom the clinical features of craniosynostosis and bilateral absent thumbs and radii led to a diagnosis of Baller-Gerold syndrome. Physical examination revealed that the heart was localized to the right side. Echocardiography confirmed dextrocardia. Dextrocardia has not previously been reported with Baller-Gerold syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of Baller-Gerold syndrome associated with dextrocardia

Overlap between Baller-Gerold and Rothmund-Thomson syndrome.
International audienceWe report a male patient with craniosysnostosis, bilateral radial and ulnar hypoplasia, absent thumbs, poikiloderma, and short stature. His parents are first cousins. Although this patient was originally diagnosed as having Baller-Gerold syndrome it is more likely that he has Rothmund-Thomson syndrome or a similar disorder. This report confirms the overlap between these two syndromes, and that Baller-Gerold syndrome is essentially a diagnosis of exclusion

Radial, renal and craniofacial anomalies: Baller-Gerold syndrome
the baller-gerold syndrome is a rare syndrome with very few cases published in literature. craniosynostosis and radial aplasia are striking features, easy to diagnose. however, there are many differential diagnoses. often, the question raised is whether the baller-gerald syndrome is a distinct entity. we report a patient with findings of craniosynostosis and radial aplasia consistent with the diagnosis of the baller-gerold syndrome. genotypic heterogeneity could possibly underlie the phenotypic variability exhibited by these cases
