Neural Network Characterization of Reflectarray Antennas
An efficient artificial neural network (ANN) approach for the modeling of reflectarray elementary components is introduced to improve the numerical efficiency of the different phases of the antenna design and optimization procedure, without loss in accuracy. The comparison between the results of the analysis of the entire reflectarray designed using the simplified ANN model or adopting a full-wave characterization
of the unit cell finally proves the effectiveness of the proposed model
Kirsten Freni
Kirsten Freni grew up in a tight-knit Italian American family transplanted from the North and West End of Boston to Revere, MA. Her father was a decorated World War II veteran who worked in the produce industry. Her mother was a stay at home mom and later became a beloved cafeteria mom in the school system. As a fierce advocate and fighter, Kirsten gravitated to her older sister, who became an aesthetician on Newbury Street in Boston in the 1980s and introduced her to a community of gay men she describes as “amazing, beautiful, and gifted souls.” Freni is a 1986 Revere High School graduate with a Travel Management degree from Newbury College. She worked in the travel industry for many years, but her passion has been in health care and LGBTQ+ advocacy, working with Prism GLBT Health, the Northshore Alliance of LGBTQ Youth, and AIDS awareness. Kirsten’s other roles have included: President of NAGLY; original board member of NS Pride; Certified HIV Outreach Counselor/Tester; Co-Chair for the Boston HIV Vaccine Community Advisory Board; past MA Commissioner of LGBTQ Youth; and original member of Lynn’s World AIDS Day Events Committee. She started attending Fran’s in the 1990s and resided in Lynn from 2008 to 2018 . Kirsten is part of the founding group for United Lynn Pride and was one of the original flag raisers at City Hall. She discusses the special challenges for LGBTQ+, technological change, and doing outreach during the pandemic
Thomas Schippers and Mirella Freni, undated
A photograph published by Capitol Records of American conductor Thomas Schippers and Italian soprano Mirella Freni. The photograph is undated but was likely published circa 1960-1969. A note on the back of the print reads "(conductor-coach) Thomas Schippers, prominent young American conductor, goes over some technical points with the soprano Mirella Freni. Capitol Records, Inc.
Mirella Freni´s Center for Belcanto
This thesis presents Mirella Freni as pedagogue and focuses on her educational projects, from short-term pedagogical activities to the founding of the CUBEC institute, an international center for belcanto singing in Modena, Italy. The work presents a detailed account of the founding of CUBEC, and analyses its methods of auditioning and teaching students. The final part of the work confronts knowledge of Mirella Freni´s pedagogical qualities with author´s personal experience.
The work also contains chapters on the life of Mirella Freni, capturing pivotal moments in her life, from childhood to the end of her Professional singing career.
The conclusion of the work presents Mirella Freni´s personal contribution to the author of the thesis
Matroidal M_\lambda-hypergroupoids: \lambda-linear mappings and automorphisms of M_\lambda-hypergroupoids
In this paper we investigate the matroidal M_λ-hypergroupoids introduced in [D. Freni, Matematiche (Catania) 52 (1997), no. 2, 271–295 (1998); MR1626420 (99g:20125)]. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for an M_λ-hypergroupoid to be matroidal; moreover, we find its cardinality and we analyse the properties of the corresponding homomorphisms. The paper also gives a characterization of the group Λ(G_λ), that is, the group of automorphisms of the hypergroupoid G_λ; this hypergroupoid is obtained from a given group G, an element λ of G, and the action of G on G determined by λ through the same operation of G. If G has finite cardinality we have
|Λ(G_λ)|=[G:⟨λ⟩]!|λ|^[G:⟨λ⟩]
Sur les hypergroupes cambistes
The author continues the study of exchange hypergroups that he initiated in a previous work. A hypergroup H is called an exchange hypergroup if, for all A⊆H, x∈⟨A∪{y}⟩ and x∉⟨A⟩⇒y∈⟨A∪{x}⟩, where ⟨B⟩ denotes the intersection of all closed subhypergroups of H containing B. After proving some results of a general nature the author studies the relations between exchange hypergroups and the HG-hypergroups introduced by M. De Salvo . Finally he gives a characterization of exchange commutative groups: they are direct sums of cyclic groups of prime order
Existence of proper semihypergroups of type U on the right
We generalize the classical definition of hypergroups of type U on the right to semihypergroups, and we prove some properties of their subsemihypergroups and subhypergroups. In particular, we obtain that a finite proper semihypergroup of type U on the right can exist only if its order is at least 6. We prove that one such semihypergroup of order 6 actually exists. Moreover, we show that there exists a hypergroup of type U on the right of cardinality 9 containing a proper non-trivial subsemihypergroup. In this way, we solve a problem left open in [D. Freni, Sur les hypergroupes de type U et sous-hypergroupes engendrés par un sous-ensemble, Riv. Mat. Univ. Parma 13 (1987) 29-41]
Isomorphism classes of the hypergroups of type U on the right of size five
AbstractBy means of a blend of theoretical arguments and computer algebra techniques, we prove that the number of isomorphism classes of hypergroups of type U on the right of order five, having a scalar (bilateral) identity, is 14751. In this way, we complete the classification of hypergroups of type U on the right of order five, started in our preceding papers [M. De Salvo, D. Freni, G. Lo Faro, A new family of hypergroups and hypergroups of type U on the right of size five, Far East J. Math. Sci. 26(2) (2007) 393–418; M. De Salvo, D. Freni, G. Lo Faro, A new family of hypergroups and hypergroups of type U on the right of size five Part two, Mathematicki Vesnik 60 (2008) 23–45; M. De Salvo, D. Freni, G. Lo Faro, On the hypergroups of type U on the right of size five, with scalar identity (submitted for publication)]. In particular, we obtain that the number of isomorphism classes of such hypergroups is 14865
Italian prisoners who died during and after the First World War: A quantitative assessment
The number of Italian military prisoners who died in enemy hands stands, according to the Italian historiography on the First World War, at 100,000 or more. In this paper, we offer an alternative estimate of the number of deaths using both individual and aggregate data. The reconstruction distinguishes between soldiers who died in captivity and soldiers who died as a consequence of captivity during and after the war. The results demonstrate that the number 100,000 is too high. The correct number would be, for the period from 25 May 1915 to 31 December 1925, above 57,000 and probably lower than 73,000
The Workload of the Italian Military Health Service During the First World War: A Quantitative Assessment
The article proposes a quantitative evaluation of the workload of the Italian military health service during the First World War. In the Great War, there were unprecedented medical and health care issues. This was a result of the size of armies; the poor living conditions of the soldiers; and the introduction of new weapons. This article reconstructs some quantitative aspects of the Italian military health service in the Great War in terms of both supply (e.g. the number of health structures and medical personnel) and demand (e.g. the soldiers who were injured and who became ill during the conflict)
