The Underwater Archaeological Map of the Southern Apulia: the GIS (Geographic Information System)

    No full text
The project allowed us to upgrade the computerized archive of Underwater Archaeological Map of southern Apulia published in 2004 (Auriemma, 2004) in the current Geographic Information System (WebGIS) shared on the network (Cossa, 2013: 3-4 http://www.arcgis.com/ apps/OnePane/storytelling_basic/index.html?appid=edb2b5022b3a4d4abb1b6f4abc95a2c7 ). Developed on the platform ArcGIS-online (www.arcgis.com), thanks to the support of the company Esri, the contribution of CUIS-Consorzio Universitario Interprovinciale Salentino, the partner (city of Racale-Lecce, ITALY) and in accordance with the Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage of Apulia region, this networked version of Forma Maris Antiqui consists of approximately 650 archaeological underwater contexts or artefacts assemblages along the coast of southern Apulia (Cossa et alii, 2010; Cossa et alii, 2012; Zaccarelli et alii, 2011). The cataloguing is in agreement with the ministerial ICCD (Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione) standard. The next step, aims to include this GIS inside the larger information system of the Carta dei Beni Culturali della Puglia

«Opus portus Ydronti». Ancient submerged structures near the modern pier San Nicola at Otranto (Lecce, Italy)

    No full text
The project is part of a research carried out by the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Salento - Underwater Archaeology, about underwater archaeological contexts as markers of the paleolandscapes. The research aims to highlight the interactions between people and environment and to reconstruct the ancient coastal landscapes by evaluating relative sea level changes (Barker/Bintcliff, 1999; Auriemma, 2004a; Auriemma/Solinas, 2009). The numerous survey activities carried out near the modern pier of «San Nicola» at Otranto (Apulia region, South Italy) allowed us to identify the remains of an ancient structure partially submerged, constructed of huge blocks of hydraulic concrete in wooden formworks. The structures date back to the Medieval age (due to the radiocarbon analysis) and can be related to the extensive program of redevelopment of the Otranto harbour which occurred in the Angevin period. We enriched our description of the building techniques with a critical review concerning the Otranto harbour’s role in that period

Volver…

    No full text

The first activity of the Ferrarese painter Francesco del Cossa in Bologna during the sixties of the fifteenth century and its importance for the definition of a specifically "Bolognese" variant of the Padan Renaissance are examined. In addition to investigating the pro-Tuscan matrix of his style, which is also capable of arriving at completely original formulations, new data are provided on his relationship with local clients (Garganelli, Griffoni) and on the fruitful dialogue with local humanists

Humor and National Catharsis in Roberto Cossa\u27s El saludador

    No full text
This article examines humor in Roberto Cossa’s El saludador and proposes that, through his unique blend of comic forms, the playwright manipulates audience reaction and provokes catharsis in his spectators. Cossa creates a comic protagonist who is a surrogate for the Argentine nation. Through their identification with the humorous protagonist/nation, spectators can consider their own reaction to the abuses the nation has suffered or self-imposed. Unlike earlier Cossa plays, which may have impeded audience catharsis, the spectator/protagonist/nation identification in El saludador promotes catharsis through audience laughter and allows spectators to purge themselves of economic and political fears in the aftermath of recent events in Argentina’s history.

    No full text
The article examines the problem of the transmission of Roman legal science texts with reference to a specific work that Justinian’s tradition attributes to Paul: the liber singularis de cognitionibus. The aim is to use the exegesis of the few fragments at our disposal – mainly about tutela – as a mean to make up a hypothesis about its authenticity, the events of its composition, the origin of materials included in it and, broadly, the consistence of the whole literary genre
