Le Rime di Bernardo Cappello. Edizione critica

    No full text
Bernardo Cappello (Venezia 1498 ca.-Roma 1560), member of one of the oldest patrician families of Venice, played an active role in the politics of the Venetian Republic, until his exile in 1540. After that, he became a collaborator and a protégé of cardinal Alessandro Farnese, who is one of the most significant figures of the century. Then he took refuge in Rome, where over the years he held varied appointments. Since his youth and in parallel with his political career, Cappello constantly devoted himself to humanistic studies and to rhymes production: pupil of Pietro Bembo, interlocutor of Giovanni Della Casa and close friend to Bernardo Tasso, the author is among the greatest exponents of the sixteenth-century Petrarchism. For the first time the critical edition of Rime by Bernardo Cappello is here given, namely the book of 353 compositions that the author elaborated on the pattern of Bembo’s directives, over a large period of time. In his book of poetry (canzoniere), through lyrical pieces, the author creates his own existential and biographical path. Regarding the evolution of the architecture of Cappello’s collection, four witnesses survived, in which we distinguish different phases: the first one is genetic and manuscript (Roma, Biblioteca Casanatense, 277), with addition of corrections that generally are close to the textual variants of the princeps; the second is the print of 1560 for the press of the Guerra brothers; finally, a further evolutionary stage is represented by two postillated prints. To these witnesses a rich miscellaneous tradition is added, which, for a large number of rhymes, restores the elaborative complexity through multiple genetic forms. Poems ousted from the ancient print, but part of the canzoniere in other phases of composition, are included in this critical edition

A portable system for in-situ calibration of force platforms: Theoretical validation

The periodic calibration of measurement devices, such as force platforms (FPs), guarantees and optimizes the quality of the acquired data. In this study, the theoretical validation of a portable system for the in-situ calibration of six-component FPs is presented. A least-squares algorithm, that estimates the FP re-calibration matrix, was designed and tested using a simulation approach. The algorithm is the core of a portable system, described in a separate paper, and represents a refinement of an algorithm previously presented by Cappello et al. [Cappello A, Lenzi D, Chiari L. Periodical in-situ re-calibration of force platforms: a new method for the robust estimation of the calibration matrix. Med Biol Eng Comput 2004;42:350–5]. The new algorithm assumes that the calibration inputs are known, 3-D, time-varying loads, applied to the FP at known coordinates, and not constrained in their direction of application. Simulation results confirmed the a priori identifiability of the re-calibration matrix and some of the algorithm features were optimized in the perspective of an actual building of the system. With the aid of simple sinusoidal loads, applied in at least five different points, we proved that the algorithm can ensure errors less than 0.2 N and 0.4 Nm when calculating force and moment components of an applied load

A system for the in-situ re-calibration of six-component force platforms is presented. The system consists of a device, a data-acquisition procedure and an algorithm. The device, simple and lightweight, is composed of a high-precision, 3-D load cell, loaded through a triangular stage, and precisely positioned on the force platform under re-calibration by means of a template. The data-acquisition procedure lasts about 1h and requires up to 13 measurements consisting of manual positioning the load cell on the force platform, and then having the operator exerting loads on both load cell and force platform by his/her body movement. As a result, the procedure makes use of loads in the same range of posture and gait tests. The algorithm estimates the local or global six-by-six re-calibration matrix of the force platform through a least-squares optimization, and is presented in detail in a separate paper [Cedraro A, Cappello A, Chiari L., A portable system for in-situ re-calibration of force platforms: Theoretical validation. Gait Posture 2008;28:488-94]. The system was validated on four commercial force platforms (Amti OR6, Bertec 4060-08, Bertec 4080-10, and Kistler 9286A). The average accuracy in the measurement of the center of pressure were 2.3+/-1.4mm, 2.6+/-1.5mm, 11.8+/-4.3mm, 14.0+/-2.5mm before re-calibration, 1.1+/-0.6mm, 1.8+/-1.1mm, 1.0+/-0.6mm, 3.2+/-1.1mm after global re-calibration, and 0.7+/-0.4mm, 0.8+/-0.5mm, 0.5+/-0.3mm, 2.0+/-1.2mm after local re-calibration (results presented in random order). The force platform re-calibration influenced the value, sign, and timing of net joint moments, estimated during a gait task through an inverse dynamics approach

Religion in the television-mediated sphere. Transformations and paradoxes,

Stefano Martelli wrote the paragraphs 1,2,3,4,8,9 and Gianna Cappello the paragraphs 5,6,7. This study suggests to look at the audiences of religious television programmes as a possible common field of interest for both the sociology of religion and communication research. The current visibility of religion on Italian television, amplified by the Jubilee 2000 and confirmed by the repeated successes of fictions dedicated to religious characters, put unusual questions to sociological theory. We argue here that such visibility must be interpreted within the «process of de-secularization», i.e. one of the many processes which are currently de-constructing modernity and confusing the distinction between the public and the private sphere. The “mediated” religion is the result of the ambiguous rediscovery of religion in the post-modern society. From this point of view, the Jubilee 2000 appears as a media event typical of the global media society in that religion is spread throughout the world but within the limits of media (and especially television) formats

    Media Literacy in Italy

In Italy, the media literacy (ML) movement has a long grassroots tradition. Main actors are from civil society (academics, associations, church communities, teachers, media professionals, educators), with some growing support from local and national institutions. While digital literacy has stably entered the school system through funds, projects, and teaching resources aimed at improving students' digital skills, only recently has a more sociocultural view of digital technologies developed, thanks also to the National Plan for Digital School issued by the Ministry of Education in 2015. For the future, more commitment to developing the following three important directions is needed: conducting evaluative research on ML in order to have more evidence‐based knowledge of its impact on educational contexts, both formal and nonformal; enhancing training and producing quality resources for teachers and educators alike; fostering more coordination and networking among the various stakeholders involved in the field
