FATTENING CAPACITIES AND MEAT QUALITY OF JAPANESE QUAILS OF FARAON AND WHITE ENGLISH BREEDS
The aim of the study was to establish the fatting capacity and the meat quality of the combined (meat+eggs) White English breed and to compare with the same of the meat Faraon breed. Logically, the live weight of 31-day old male Faraon-birds was by 5,9 % higher and of the female ones – by 7,9 % compared to the birds of White English breed. Feed conversion ratio for the experimental period (3-31 days) for the White English quails was to 9,95% less effective, compared to the Faraon birds. The meat of Faraon quails contained more dry matter and protein compared to the meat of White English breed. Fat content in the quail bodies of White English breed was signifi cantly lower compared to Faraon breed /Р≤0,05/. Quail meat of White English breed was characterized by its better capacity for technological processing due to the lower loss of moisture – by 18,8 % for breast and 22,4 % for leg muscles /Р≤0,05/. The established results characterize the combined White English breed as suitable for producing both of eggs and meat from quails

License (except photographs).Monografija "Mojstrovine poljske književnosti in filma: Faraon, Svatba, Mati Ivana Angelska" predstavlja tri izbrana dela poljskega literarnega kanona in njihove filmske adaptacije, ki jih odlikuje visoka umetniška raven ter spadajo v klasiko poljske kinematografije: roman Bolesława Prusa "Faraon" ("Faraon", 1895) in film "Faraon" v režiji Jerzyja Kawalerowicza ("Faraon", 1965); dramo Stanisława Wyspiańskega "Svatba" ("Wesele", 1901) in film "Svatba" v režiji Andrzeja Wajde ("Wesele", 1972) ter novelo Jarosława Iwaszkiewicza "Mati Ivana Angelska" ("Matka Joanna od Aniołów", 1946) in film "Mati Ivana Angelska" v režiji Jerzyja Kawalerowicza ("Matka Joanna od Aniołów", 1961). Vsa tri literarna dela obravnavajo problematiko družbenih norm, moralnih vrednot, človekove svobode in njegovega delovanja v družbi. Zaključno poglavje monografije ponuja natančnejšo predstavitev metode antropološko-morfološke analize filmskega dela, ki je bila uporabljena za analizo filmov in jo je razvil Seweryn Kuśmierczyk.The monograph “Masterpieces of Polish Literature and Film: Pharaoh, The Wedding, Mother Joan of the Angels” presents three selected works of the Polish literary canon and their film adaptations, which are distinguished by a high artistic level and belong to the classics of Polish cinematography: Bolesław Prus's novel “Pharaoh” (“Faraon”, 1895) and the film “Pharaoh” directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz (“Faraon”, 1965); Stanisław Wyspiański's drama “The Wedding” (“Wesele”, 1901) and the film “The Wedding” directed by Andrzej Wajda (“Wesele, 1972); Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz's short story “Mother Joan of the Angels” (“Matka Joanna od Aniołów”, 1946) and the film “Mother Joan of the Angels” directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz (“Matka Joanna od Aniołów”, 1961). All three literary works deal with the questions of social norms, moral values, human freedom and human functioning in society. The final chapter of the monograph offers a more detailed presentation of the method of anthropological and morphological analysis of a cinematographic work that was developed by Seweryn Kuśmierczyk and used for analysis of the films
The picture of God in Faraon by Bolesław Prus. Some chosen aspects of the linguistic analysis
W artykule starano się omówić Prusowską wizję religii, zwłaszcza Boga, zawartą w powieści
o starożytnym Egipcie. Tekst składa się z dwóch zasadniczych części: 1) „Geneza Faraona”, 2) „Religie
w Faraonie. Jednowyrazowe określenia Boga/bóstw”. Autorka przybliża czytelnikowi przede
wszystkim zawartość semantyczno-stylistyczną leksemu Bóg/bóg, uwarunkowaną rzeczywistością
historyczną i powieściową, a także sposobem prezentacji, uzależnionym od rodzaju narracji (narrator
XIX-wieczny i starożytny). Analizie poddano również inne, jednowyrazowe określenia Boga/bogów,
zwłaszcza imiona poszczególnych postaci boskich. Tekst zamyka konkluzja o monoteistycznym
obrazie Boga w Faraonie, przy czym ów monoteizm obejmuje dwie niezupełnie tożsame istoty –
jedną z nich jest Bóg ogólnoludzki, najbliższy Prusowi, drugą zaś Bóg żydowski, traktujący swój
lud w sposób wyjątkowy, jako naród wybrany. Politeistyczną wizję bogów ukazanych w Faraonie
tłumaczą głównie względy wychowawczo-polityczno-ekologiczne.The article intends to outline Prus’ vision of religion, and of God in particular, included in the
novel on ancient Egypt. The text comprises two basic parts: 1) “Genesis of Faraon”, 2) “Religions
in Faraon”. One-word terms relating to God/gods. Essentially, the author discusses the semantic and
stylistic content of the lexeme God/gods conditioned by the historical and literary reality as well as
its discursive presentation which, in turn, depends on the type of narration (a 19th century narrator
and an ancient one). Moreover, other one-word terms relating to God/gods are analysed, vitally the
names of particular divine forms. The paper’s conclusion is that Faraon offers a monotheistic picture
of God albeit the monotheism incorporates two beings which cannot be fully identified with each
other. One of them is God in the general sense, with whom Prus seems closely affiliated, and the other
one is the Jewish God who treats his followers as the chosen people. The polytheistic vision of gods
pictured in Faraon can be accounted for primarily by educational, political and ecological factors

Phoenicians and the Polish Cause. Problems of Representation in Bolesław Prus’s Faraon
This article proposes to reflect on selected paradoxes of representation in Bolesław Prus’s novel Faraon [The Pharaoh]. First of all, the author discusses the validity of the notions of “truth” / “falsehood” in literary studies and proves that there is no reason for applying them to fiction. Then, he focuses on the depiction of the uncanny magician Beroes and his actions, which transgress realistic standards of probability. Finally, the author argues that the analogy between the novel’s fictional Phoenicians and 19th-century Polish Jews drawn by some researchers is unjustified both because of the novel’s narrative mode and the writer’s opinions expressed in his other texts
PORÓWNANIE WARTOŚCI RZEŹNEJ PRZEPIÓREK FARAON RÓŻNYM WIEKU
The effect of age of Pharaoh quail on dressing percentage, carcass composition, and
sensory and physicochemical properties of their meat was determined. Compared to
42-day-old birds, Pharaoh quail aged 33 days had lower body weight (169.1 vs 139.4
g), carcass weight (111.7 vs 88.8 g) and dressing percentage 66.1 vs 63.7%). The
carcasses of 42-day-old birds contained more breast muscles (30.9%), leg muscles
(18.3%), skin with subcutaneous fat (6.5%) and remainders of the carcass (31.0%)
compared to birds at 33 days of age (30.8; 16.7; 6.2 and 30.0%, respectively). Older
birds showed higher values of pH15, redness (a*) and yellowness (b*) and lower
values of sensory meat properties except aroma intensity.Określono wpływ wieku przepiórek Faraon na ich wydajność rzeźną, skład tuszki,
właściwości sensoryczne i fizykochemiczne mięsa. Przepiórki Faraon w wieku 33
dni, w porównaniu do 42-dniowych ptaków miały mniejszą masę ciała 139,4 vs 169,1
g), masę tuszki (88,8 vs 111,7 g) i wydajność rzeźną (63,7 vs 66,1%). Tuszki
42-dniowych przepiórek zawierały więcej mięśni piersiowych (30,9%), mięśni nóg
(18,3%), skóry z tłuszczem podskórnym (6,5%) pozostałości tuszki (31,0%), w
porównaniu z ptakami w wieku 33 dni (30,8; 16,7; 6,2 i 30,0%). U starszych ptaków
stwierdzono większe wartości pH15, natężenia barwy czerwonej (a*) i żółtej (b*) a
mniejsze dla cech właściwości sensorycznych mięsa, z wyjątkiem natężenia
zapachu
Dynamic behavior of a spring-powered micronozzle needle-free injector
Conventional injection is still the leading method to deliver macromolecular therapeutics. Needle injection is considered a low compliance administration strategy, principally due to pain and needle phobia. This has fostered the research on the development of alternative strategies to circumvent the skin barrier. Among needle-free drug delivery methods, jet injection is an old strategy with great potential not yet completely disclosed. Here, the design, engineering and dynamic behavior of a novel spring-powered micronozzle needle-free injector is presented. Fluid mechanics was first studied in air to calculate jet force and speed as well as injection duration in different conditions. Polyacrylamide gel was used to simulate a soft tissue and to investigate the jet evolution over time of different injected doses. Finally, ex vivo characterization was carried out on pig skin. Results evidenced a direct dependence of the force, velocity, and duration with the injection volume. The model material allowed individuating the different steps of jet penetration and to attempt a mechanistic explanation. A different behavior has been recorded in the skin with interesting findings for subcutaneous and/or dermal delivery. Peculiar features with respect to existing jet injectors confers to this device good potentiality for a future clinical application. (C) 2015 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved
