Cittadinanza energetica per la neutralità climatica urbana

    No full text
The essay presents some researches recently developed, in particular through the participation to EU H2020 projects, by the TRACE group of the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, focused on citizenship involvement and the development of conscious participation as an essential factor to support green energy transition strategies. In the EU, cities are responsible for 65% of energy consumption and 70% of CO2 emissions and the percentage of people living in urban areas is constantly increas-ing. Strong actions are needed to move cities towards climate neutrality by 2050 by working together with citizens. The selected research aims to promote strategies for green energy transition of neighborhoods through shared and replicable ways that can achieve significant im-pacts in energy savings and climate change emissions reduction. Finally, the essay briefly presents the H2020 project GRETA - GReen Energy Transition Actions (GA101022317), with the objective of investigating the combi-nation of energy communities and climate city contracts as key interventions to address the goal of achieving citizen-centric and climate neutral cities

    No full text
The increasing importance of social housing in order to deal with the emergency caused by the pressing demand expressed by new categories of users, places in the foreground the need to redevelop the existing public housing assets. The article proposes the deepening of one study case, the Pilastro suburb, a significant example of social housing high density settlement, situated in the outskirts of Bologna. The description includes the different stages of the settlement and its current structure, the social dynamics which characterize its density and the relation with the rest of the town. Then, the study brought out the technical, functional and social factors, on which the level of quality of the settlement, the physical and use conditions and the phenomena of social uneasiness depend. It also highlighted some factors that may pose a resistance to the measures of improvement of the internal distribution and of the energy efficiency of buildings

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Eco-technologies for retrofitting social housing stock: strategies for an Italian case study

While there are an increasing number of new projects aiming at combining high residential quality and low power consumption, it is clear that the main challenges in the short term concern the performance upgrading of the existing residential building stock. As a matter of fact, when compared to new buildings construction methods, this kind of intervention reduces the consumption of land and energy and could be applied to a large portion of buildings characterized by low architectural quality and low performances. Social housing stock consumes high energy and does not offer suitable levels of comfort. This type of building is characterized by different variables, ranging from its historical background to the more recent suburban additions, and requires flexible methods of approach to define objectives and modalities of intervention. In Italy, the condition of the existing residential stock is not very satisfactory. Therefore, it is important to define methods of requalification to improve energy and morphological performances of construction. This paper describes the status of some of the Italian high density suburban areas, focusing in particular on a district in Bologna in the Emilia Romagna region (IT). This paper aims at identifying intervention strategies for morphological and energy improvement. Their effectiveness in terms of reducing the energy requirements will be verified with a simulation model of the behaviour of one of the building subject of retrofitting

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Towards a sustainable district: a streamlined Life cycle assessment applied to an Italian urban district

    No full text
The literature shows a lack of environmental indicators able to support the transition from a sustainable to a smart city framework, since the priority area "built environment" is indeed more comprehensively addressed by urban sustainability assessment systems (13%), than by smart city frameworks (4%) [12]. As "smaller cities inside a larger agglomerate" [19], urban districts play a key role in defining effective and innovative paths toward a smarter city, but defining a sustainable urban district is not straightforward, and even less is capturing the induced impacts due to interactions between individual buildings and their surround urban setting [23]. The adoption of a quantitative method for evaluation, such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), emerges as an essential step for this purpose [24]. This article explores the application of a streamlined LCA on the urban district main issues (buildings, energy, water and waste), referring to an urban retrofitting intervention of Bolognina neighborhood. A set of mitigation strategies developed by an interdisciplinary research group (joining researcher team from the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna and Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering of the RWTH Aachen University) provides the reference framework for the application deepened within the article. This work is a first application of LCA to a case study but it not includes a comprehensive sustainability framework yet, further activities are planned to finalize the analysis, e.g. taking account of social dimension by applying Social Life Cycle Assessment
