Al Ajlan A. Political Utilization of the Natural Environment effect on societies between Ibn Khaldun and Montesquieu. Damascus: Rislan Publication House; 2009.There is no doubt that the natural environment has an impact on the economic, social and political systems of countries. The ancients have alerted to this and built their diverse hypotheses about the impact of climate and the environment on humans and their activities.
In this important academic research, the researcher Ahmad Al-Ajlan provides a study on how Ibn Khaldun and Montesquieu discussed the impact of the natural environment on human society.
The importance of Ibn Khaldun as the most prominent Arab sociologist is universally recognized, and Montesquieu's treatise on the political theory and his pioneering work in comparative law had a great influence on the Renaissance in Europe.
This book explains the ambiguity and confusion about the "Muqaddimah" by Ibn Khaldun and Montesquieu's "Spirit of Law", which are highly controversial and have different interpretations that may serve completely contradictory ideas.
The book benefits all interested and specialists in the fields of sociology, philosophy, history, and geography
The Asylum Procedure in Germany: Desperation and Uncertainty as Risk Factors for Violence Among Young Adult Asylum Seekers in Collective Accommodations
Al Ajlan A. The Asylum Procedure in Germany: Desperation and Uncertainty as Risk Factors for Violence Among Young Adult Asylum Seekers in Collective Accommodations. Journal of Interpersonal Violence. 2020: 088626052095797.This study explores how violence occurs among young adult asylum seekers in collective accommodations in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. It provides an insider perspective to understand a phenomenon related to non-European people who were forced to leave their countries to seek asylum. Based on 16 qualitative interviews with young adult male asylum seekers from Syria and some African countries, seven interviews with social workers, and one interview with a German psychological therapist, the author finds that the asylum procedure in Germany as a total institution catalyzes violence among young adult asylum seekers in collective accommodations. The present study shows that collective accommodations are unhomely places, where “inmates” lack privacy and autonomy. In addition, the asylum procedure deprives them of essential human needs, such as the right to work and to have full access to the health care system. These circumstances make them uncertain and desperate, which leads to violence among them. The author calls for more attention towards the human needs of asylum seekers, rather than making them related to the granting of asylum, which can ultimately take years. </jats:p
Prevalence and Risk Factors for Vitamin D Deficiency in Children and Adolescents in the Kingdom of Bahrain
Background: Vitamin D deficiency has reached pandemic levels in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, even though sunshine is abundant all year round for the cutaneous synthesis of vitamin D through the skin. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and risk factors associated with serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) in children and adolescents aged from 10 to 19 years, as well as the possible associations of vitamin D with calcium, magnesium and phosphate levels. Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional study was conducted between May and August 2019 at the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Bahrain. A total of 383 boys and girls were selected from five health centers from five different regions in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Information about sex, age, education level, weight, height, degree of sunlight exposure, and physical activity levels was recorded. A blood sample was taken from each participant to test serum levels of 25(OH)D, calcium, magnesium and phosphate. Results: The results revealed that 92.1% of the participants were deficient in vitamin D. A significantly higher percentage of boys (96.2%) were vitamin D deficient (<20 ng/mL) than girls (88.3%) (p value = 0.004). Vitamin D deficiency were more prevalent among overweight (96.8%) and obese (96.2%) participants than normal body weight and wasted participants (p value < 0.001). Being male, overweight, or obese was significantly positively associated with a risk of vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency was significantly associated with low serum levels of magnesium. No significant associations were detected between vitamin D deficiency and calcium and phosphate serum levels. However, vitamin D deficiency was significantly associated with low serum level of magnesium (p value = 0.017). Conclusions: Our study revealed that vitamin D deficiency was more prevalent among overweight and obese adolescents and mostly boys rather than girls. Magnesium and phosphate were lower in adolescents and children with lower serum 25(OH)D, showing a clear association between these biomarkers and the 25(OH)D
LIRIK LAGU ʻALA NAHJIK MASYAĪT KARYA AJLAN THABET YANG DIPOPULERKAN OLEH MAHER ZAIN (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA FERDINAND DE SAUSSURE)
This study focuses on the semiotic analysis of the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt, including the meaning of the lyrics, the analysis of signifiers and signifieds, and the underlying meanings. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, analyzing the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt through text observation. The collected data are then analyzed, interpreted, and explained using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic perspective, which states that a sign consists of two interrelated components: the signifier and the signified. The results of the study indicate that the lyrics of the song ‘Ala Nahjik Masyaīt revolve around the spiritual journey of the songwriter (Ajlan Thabet) who wishes to follow the footsteps and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Furthermore, the semiotic analysis of the meaning of the lyrics 'Ala Nahjik Masyāit identifies the signifiers and signifieds as follows: pass by, ask, resemble, with shame, make, inspire, follow you, step, my light, emulate, follow you, rise, ignore, remain, feel, suffer, desire, your guidance, and face. The semiotic meanings of these signifiers and signifieds illustrate Ajlan Thabet's sacrifice, willingness to suffer, and face challenges in order to follow the Prophet. This includes seeking happiness and tranquility in faith, and facing various trials and mistakes with patience
