Adversative particles in Ancient Greek: ἀλλἀ, ἀτἀρ, μέντοι and καίτοι in Euripides
No full textA tese visa a uma descrição das partículas gregas ἀλλἀ, ἀτἀρ, μέντοι e καίτοι em Eurípides. De viés funcionalista, tal estudo busca entender os usos de cada partícula na macroestrutura do discurso, suas funções e contextos, e sobretudo o modo como essas partículas articulam e organizam a estrutura do discurso. Para tanto, o estudo realiza análises qualitativas de todas as ocorrências das referidas partículas no corpus e as compara a descrições anteriores. Dois parâmetros principais de análise são empregados: a posição que cada partícula ocupa na estrutura do discurso e o tipo de contraste que ela designa. Como principais referências, consideram-se: o trabalho pioneiro de J. D. Denniston (Greek Particles) e a Gramática Discursivo-Funcional de Hengeveld & Mackenzie.This dissertation aims to describe the usage of the Greek particles ἀλλἀ, ἀτἀρ, μέντοι and καίτοι in Euripides. Adopting a functionalist perspective, it explores: the uses of each particle within the discourse macrostructure; their functions and their contexts of occurrence; and the way they help to articulate and organize discourse structure. In keeping with this goal, this study performs qualitative analyses of all occurrences of the aforementioned particles in the selected corpus and compares them with earlier descriptions. Two main parameters of analysis are employed: the position that each particle takes in the discourse structure, and the type of contrast that it designates. The main references for this dissertation are the groundbreaking work of J.D. Denniston (Greek Particles) and the Functional Discourse Grammar developed by Hengeveld & Mackenzie

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Producción de exopolisacáridos de cianobacterias filamentosas Nostoc spp. cepas PCC 7413 y PCC 7936 en cultivo mixotrófico
No full textLa presente investigación tuvo la finalidad de evaluar fuentes de carbono orgánico y su incidencia sobre la producción de exopolisacáridos (EPSs) en dos cepas de Nostoc spp. PCC 7413 y PCC 7936. Para ello, se cultivaron ambas cepas en condiciones autotróficas (medio BG11) y mixotróficas, suplementado el medio estándar BG11 con fructosa, dextrosa, sacarosa y acetato de sodio individualmente. Los resultados determinaron que Nostoc spp. PCC 7413 obtuvo mayor concentración de clorofila a en el cultivo autotrófico (21,81 ± 0,53 mg L-1); la tasa de crecimiento específica (μ) más alta se presentó con fructosa (1,50 ± 0,17 d-1); la mayor concentración de ficobiliproteínas PC y APC (124,99 ± 56,80 58,65 ± 30,42 mg g-1, respectivamente) se observó en los cultivos con sacarosa, la mayor producción de EPSs (peso seco), de 3,20 ± 0,08 g L-1, fue con dextrosa. Mientras que Nostoc spp. PCC 7936, obtuvo los valores más altos de concentración de clorofila a (22,50 ± 0,98 mg L-1) y de μ (0,98 ±0,05 d-1) en el cultivo mixotrófico con dextrosa; la concentración de ficobiliproteínas mas alta fue en el cultivo con fructosa (2,78 ± 0,03 g L-1); así como la producción más alta de EPSs (peso seco). Los resultados de este estudio mostraron que Nostoc spp. PCC 7413 y PCC 7936 puede crecer mixotróficamente, utilizando dextrosa, fructosa, sacarosa y acetato como fuente de carbono orgánico y pueden aumentar significativamente la producción de EPS en comparación con el cultivo fototrófico

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Life in its unfullness: Revisiting ἀναίδειαν (Lk 11:8) in the light of papyrological evidence
Get PDFThe aim of this chapter is twofold. Firstly, the chapter presents a comprehensive study of the meaning of the term ἀναίδειαν in extant papyrological evidence. The conclusion reached is that the term, as is the case in early Jewish and patristic writings, the LXX, Graeco-Roman literature and in early Christian writings, always carries a negative and pejorative meaning. This meaning of the term is then used to interpret the occurrence of ἀναίδειαν in the parable of the Friend at Midnight.
