Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Star formation timescale in the circumnuclear starburst ring of barred galaxy NGC 7552
We present the multiple line observations carried out with interferometry. We observed the circumnuclear region of the barred galaxy NGC 7552 in molecular lines tracing diffuse molecular gas ( 12CO J 2 - 1; observed by SMA) and relatively dense molecular gas (HCN J 1 - 0; observed by ATCA). We also reprocessed a published HI image which covers the entire galaxy to gain an analytical image with higher resolution. The displacement between HCN (J 1 - 0) and radio knots (3 cm continuum; ATCA archive data) is clearly seen in the circumnuclear starburst ring of NGC 7552. The propagation time derived from 12CO J 2 - 1 and HI based rotation curve between the HCN (J 1 - 0) and radio knots implies the timescale between the formation and death of massive stars. The timescale of NGC 7552 is about an order of magnitude shorter than 5 - 10 Myr timescale for OB stars to become supernovae. It is possible that star formation in the ring is top heavy, resulting in a shorter timescale.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Preserving Linked Data Integrity on the Semantic Web by application of techniques from Hypermedia
This report presents a Literature Review of past work in Hypertext link integrity and current work in the emerging area of Semantic Web link integrity. A design and prototype for a system which applies some ideas from Hypertext link integrity to the Semantic Web is presented alongside plans for future enhancements of this system. In addition other possible avenues of research regarding ideas from traditional Hypertext link integrity are briefly discussed
The reddening law outside the local group galaxies : the case of NGC 7552 and NGC 5236
The dust reddening law from the UV to the near-IR for the extended regions of galaxies is here derived from the spectral distributions of the starburst spiral galaxies NGC 7552 and NGC 5236. The centers of these galaxies have similar absorption and emission line spectra, ditfering only in the strength of their interstellar lines and in the continuum distribution, with NGC 7552 appearing more reddened than NGC 5236. The disk of NGC 7552 is more inclined, and there is evidence that its center is observed through additional foreground dust and gas clouds, as compared to the center of NGC 5236. While the galaxies can be expected to have similar dust content, they are known to have different dust path lengths to our line of sight. Therefore, differences in the shape of the spectra can be attributed mainly to the effects of dust, allowing us to probe for the first time the properties of the reddening law outside the local group of galaxies. We derive the reddening law based on the optical depth of the emission Iines of Hα and Hβ and also based on the continuum distribution. We find that the optical depth from the emission line regions are about twice the optical depth of the continuum regions. Thus, dereddening a starburst galaxy by scaling the Milky Way reddening laws to optical depths obtained from the Hα/Hβ line ratio overcompensates for the effect of dust
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
