    Plagioclase in Yamato-7308 Meteorite from Antarctica

    P(論文)Twinning patterns, optical angles, Kohler angles, and other optical properties and chemical compositions of the calcic plagioclases in Yamato-7308 meteorite from Antarctica were examined. The Yamato-7308 meteorite is a howardite consisting of polymict breccia of eucrite and diogenite fragments. Plagioclases occur as individual grains in matrix, as a main constituent of eucrite fragment, and as maskelynite in eucrite fragment. These plagioclases have petrographical characteristics exhibiting their different petrogenetical processes. Plagioclase grains in eucrite fragment are twinned after the albite-Carlsbad, albite and pericline laws, and show rarely the Carlsbad law. Frequency percentage of the albite-Carlsbad and Carlsbad laws reaches 45%. Average composition of the plagioclase is Or_Ab_An_. Individual plagioclase grains in matrix are twinned after the pericline and albite laws, and the albite-Carlsbad law is rare. Frequency percentage of the pericline law reaches 76%, and that of the albite-Carlsbad law is only 4%. Average composition of the individual plagioclase grains is Or_Ab_An_. The twinning pattern of plagioclases in eucrite fragment clearly differs from that of individual plagioclase grains in matrix. Concerning the twinning pattern of plagioclase, Yamato-7308 meteorite contains two contrastive kinds of plagioclases : igneous type (in eucrite fragment) and metamorphic type (in matrix). These plagioclases are considered to have been formed under the same genetical environment. Regional metamorphism occurred in an asteroid after its eucrite crust and diogenite mantle were formed. Individual plagioclase grains were formed by the regional metamorphism and eucrite fragments retain their original igneous characteristics owing to their situation far from the metamorphic terrain or their resistance to the regional metamorphism. Howardite was formed by collision between the partly metamorphosed asteroid and some meteoritic body. Some individual plagioclase grains show clear shadow extinction and kink bands, and plagioclase in some eucrite fragments is maskelynitized either completely or locally. These facts indicate that some individual grains and some rock fragments have been subjected to intense impact metamorphism by the collision.departmental bulletin pape

    Petrography and mineral compositions of the Yamato-7308 howardite

    P(論文)The constituents of the Y-7308 howardite are classified into four groups : holocrystalline lithic clasts, hypocrystalline to holohyaline materials, mineral fragments and matrix. The holocrystalline lithic clasts include four clans : (1) A diogenitic cumulate type consisting of diogenitic clasts. (2) A eucritic cumulate type consisting of hypersthene-eucritic clasts and coarse-grained inverted pigeonite-eucritic clasts. (3) A Na-rich magma type consisting of fine-grained inverted pigeonite-eucritic clasts. (4) A Na-poor magma type consisting of pigeonite-eucritic clasts and fayalitic olivine-hedenbergitic pyroxene-tridymite-plagiolcase clasts. Most clasts of hypocrystalline to holohyaline materials were probably formed by shock events from breccias and/or regoliths similar in composition to the whole rock of Y-7308. Most mineral fragments were probably derived by shocks from complete disaggregation of holocrystalline lithic clasts and hypocrystalline to holohyaline materials. Magnesian olivine and orthopyroxene fragments may have been derived from dunitic or orthopyroxenitic rocks whose clasts cannot be observed in Y-7308.departmental bulletin pape

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Mineralogical and Petrographical Studies of the Yamato Meteorites, Yamato-7301(j), -7305(k), -7308(l) and -7303(m) from Antarctica

    P(論文)In 1973,the 14th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition party collected twelve meteoritic stones in the bare ice field near the Yamato Mountains, Antarctica. Four of the stones were named Yamato-7301,-7305,-7308 and -7303. Yamato-7301,-7305 and -7303 are ordinary chondrites and are classified respectively as H4,L5 and L5 chondrites, while Yamato-7308 is a howardite. Yamato-7301,-7305 and -7303 are composed chiefly of olivine ((Fo)_) and orthopyroxene ((En)_), with subordinate amounts of clinopyroxene, plagioclase and phosphate minerals. Opaque minerals, nickel-iron, troilite and chromite, are more abundant in Yamato-7301 than in Yamato-7305 and -7303. Yamato-7308 is composed mainly of pyroxene and plagioclase (anorthite), with olivine, silica minerals, opaque minerals and glassy material in minor amounts. The composition of orthopyroxene is variable ranging from (En)_ to (En)_, and also clinopyroxene varies considerably in composition. The result suggests that Yamato-7308 originated from the fractional crystallization of the parent magma of the achondrite.departmental bulletin pape

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Intercontinental simultaneous survey of the unique cepheid HR 7308 in photometry and radial velocity

    A simultaneous monitoring in photometry and radial velocity was organized in August 1984 on the unique Cepheid HR 7308 (V473 Lyr). The data were obtained by using ten telescopes located in six different countries in Europe and North America. Three different versions of the Baade-Wesselink method have been applied and the results (50 ± 15 Rʘ , 41 ± 11 Rʘ , 32 ± 10 Rʘ ) are in favor of a mean radius larger than 30 Rʘ . The photometric analysis confirms that the star has a normal solar abundance. HR 7308 is most probably a classical Cepheid pulsating in the second (or higher) overtone. However, the possibility that the star is a Population II Cepheid and/or that it is pulsating in the fundamental mode or the first overtone cannot yet be ruled out definitively

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
