    Modelling the influence of machined surface roughness on the fatigue life of aluminium alloy

    The influence of machined surface roughness on the fatigue life of 7010 aluminium alloy has been investigated. Four-point bending specimen have been machined according to various machining conditions and tested in fatigue. In order to explain the high dependence of SN curves on the surface roughness of the specimen, an approach based on the finite element analysis of measured surface topography is proposed. Surface grooves due to machining are supposed to generate stress concentrations that are so calculated. A model of fatigue life prediction is developed, using this definition of local Kt

    Evaluation of the SPH method for the modelling of spall in anisotropic alloys

    Spall caused by hypervelocity impacts at the lower range of velocities could result in significant damage to spacecraft. A number of polycrystalline alloys, used in spacecraft manufacturing, exhibit a pronounced anisotropy in their mechanical properties. The aluminium alloy AA 7010, whose orthotropy is a consequence of the meso-scale phase distribution or grain morphology, has been chosen for this investigation. The material failure observed in plate impact was simulated using an explicit finite element code and a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) code. A number of spall models where used, and the Hugoniot Elastic Limit (HEL) and spall strength have been studied as a function of orientation, and compared to experimental results

    AI vision identification for ISO 7010 safety standards and signs

    The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 7010 standard is a critical component in maintaining safety and health in various environments, including workplaces, public areas and where heavy machinery is operated. ISO 7010 prescribes safety signs across standard images for the purposes of accident prevention and hazardous protection, providing a universal language of safety, that can be understood by everyone, regardless of their nationality or native language. These symbols are unique, having only one symbol for each meaning to avoid confusion across industries. In this context, this work proposes a solution to train, evaluate and deploy an AI image detection model that is able to identify such signs in an image (frame), and paired with natural language processing (NLP) through the use of proprietary Large Language Models (LLM), be able to identify in which location of the document such signs are present. For that, the framework uses cutting-edge LLM technologies as Function Tools and RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) practices. Along with the proposal, this work can also bring other potential benefits for places using ISO 7010 standards, such as enhanced safety compliance, realtime monitoring, accessibility and audit.A norma International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 7010 é um componente crítico na manutenção da segurança e saúde em diversos ambientes, incluindo locais de trabalho, áreas públicas e onde há operação de máquinas pesadas. A ISO 7010 prescreve sinais de segurança (através de imagens padrão) para fins de prevenção de acidentes e proteção contra riscos, fornecendo uma linguagem universal de segurança, que pode ser compreendida por todos, independentemente de sua nacionalidade ou língua materna. Esses símbolos são únicos, tendo apenas um símbolo para cada significado para evitar confusão entre as indústrias. Nesse contexto, este trabalho propõe uma solução para construir (treinar, avaliar e implantar) um modelo de detecção de imagens de IA capaz de identificar tais sinais em uma imagem (frame), e, combinado com processamento de linguagem natural (NLP) através do uso de Large Language Models (LLM) comerciais, ser capaz de identificar em qual localização do documento tais sinais estão representados. Para isso, o framework utiliza tecnologias de ponta de LLM como Function Tools e RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation).     Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder in individuals that carry DQ2 or DQ8 MHC class II haplotypes, triggered by the ingestion of gluten. There is no current treatment other than a gluten-free diet (GFD). We have previously shown that the BL-7010 copolymer poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-styrene sulfonate) (P(HEMA-co-SS)) binds with higher efficiency to gliadin than to other proteins present in the small intestine, ameliorating gliadin-induced pathology in the HLA-HCD4/DQ8 model of gluten sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficiency of two batches of BL-7010 to interact with gliadin, essential vitamins and digestive enzymes not previously tested, and to assess the ability of the copolymer to reduce gluten-associated pathology using the NOD-DQ8 mouse model, which exhibits more significant small intestinal damage when challenged with gluten than HCD4/DQ8 mice. In addition, the safety and systemic exposure of BL-7010 was evaluated in vivo (in rats) and in vitro (genetic toxicity studies). In vitro binding data showed that BL-7010 interacted with high affinity with gliadin and that BL-7010 had no interaction with the tested vitamins and digestive enzymes. BL-7010 was effective at preventing gluten-induced decreases in villus-to-crypt ratios, intraepithelial lymphocytosis and alterations in paracellular permeability and putative anion transporter-1 mRNA expression in the small intestine. In rats, BL-7010 was well-tolerated and safe following 14 days of daily repeated administration of 3000 mg/kg. BL-7010 did not exhibit any mutagenic effect in the genetic toxicity studies. Using complementary animal models and chronic gluten exposure the results demonstrate that administration of BL-7010 is effective and safe and that it is able to decrease pathology associated with gliadin sensitization warranting the progression to Phase I trials in humans

    7xxx (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu) alloys develop their strength, through the controlled decomposition (ageing) of a supersaturated solid solution to produce a precipitation hardened microstructure. The supersaturated solid solution is normally produced by water quenching from the solution heat treatment temperature. The kinetics of phase transformations occurring during cooling from the solution heat treatment temperature are limited at small undercoolings by the small chemical free energy, and as the undercooling increases, by reduced rates of substitutional solid state diffusion. This gives rise to the characteristic C-shape of time-temperature-property (TTP) curves. The TTP curve for 7010 has been evaluated by a interrupted quench method into a salt bath at temperatures ranging from 450 to 210degreesC. A TTP curve for 7050T76 sheet data has then been used to predict tensile property inhomogeneity in large 7010 forgings with known cooling rates. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Single event effects sensitivity of low energy proton in Xilinx Zynq-7010 system-on chip

    In this paper, experimental methods are emphatically described for measuring the proton single event effects (SEE) in Xilinx Zynq-7010 system-on chip. Experimental data are presented showing that low energy (3 MeV s Energy s 10 MeV) proton irradiation can cause single event effects in different hardware blocks of Xilinx Zynq-7010 SoC, including D-Cache, programmable logic (PL), arithmetic logical unit (ALU), float point unit (FPU) and direct memory access (DMA). Moreover, the sensitivities of different hardware blocks to single event effects are different. Finally, the Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter (SRIM) software calculations show the possible reasons for this difference. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
