ULTRACAM Observations of PSR J2039-5617
Optical observations of PSR J2039-5617 taken by the high-speed triple-beam CCD camera ULTRACAM on ESO's New Technology Telescope. Observations were taken on 2017 June 18, 2018 June 02 and 2019 July 07.
Files with names like _fluxes_.dat contain the reduced light curves in ASCII format.
Columns are:
1) MJD time (barycentered TDB),
2) orbital phase (in rotations, with phase = 0 corresponding to pulsar's ascending node),
3) flux density (in erg cm-2 s-1 Hz-1)
4) flux density uncertainty (in erg cm-2 s-1 Hz-1)
"ultracam_rawdata.tar.gz" contains all of the raw ULTRACAM data (bias frames, flat frames, calibration observations of standard stars and science frames) from which the reduced light curves were produced. These files are in the ULTRACAM data pipeline format.
"J2039-5617.par" is an ephemeris file that is compatible with a recent version of tempo2 in which the "ORBIFUNC" parameters describing an interpolating function for the orbital phase variations have been implemented

Polarimetry of an intermediate-age open cluster: NGC 5617
Aims. We present polarimetric observations in the UBVRI bands of 72 stars located in the direction of the medium age open cluster NGC 5617. Our intention is to use polarimetry as a tool in membership identification, by building on previous investigations intended mainly to determine the cluster's general characteristics rather than provide membership suitable for studies such as stellar content and metallicity, as well as study the characteristics of the dust lying between the Sun and the cluster. Methods. The obsevations were carried out using the five-channel photopolarimeter of the Torino Astronomical Observatory attached to the 2.15 m telescope at the Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito (CASLEO; Argentina). Results. We are able to add 32 stars to the list of members of NGC 5617, and review the situation for others listed in the literature. In particular, we find that five blue straggler stars in the region of the cluster are located behind the same dust as the member stars are and we confirm the membership of two red giants. The proposed polarimetric memberships are compared with those derived by photometric and kinematical methods, with excellent results. Among the observed stars, we identify 10 with intrinsic polarization in their light. NGC 5617 can be polarimetrically characterized with Pmax = 4.40 % and θv = 73°1. The spread in polarization values for the stars observed in the direction of the cluster seems to be caused by the uneven distribution of dust in front of the cluster's face. Finally, we find that in the direction of the cluster, the interstellar medium is apparently free of dust, from the Sun's position up to the Carina-Sagittarius arm, where NGC 5617 seems to be located at its farthest border.Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísica
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Binary open clusters in the Milky Way: photometric and spectroscopic analysis of NGC 5617 and Trumpler 22
Using photometry and high resolution spectroscopy we investigate for the first time the physical connection between the open clusters NGC 5617 and Trumpler 22. Based on new CCD photometry we report their spatial proximity and common age of ~70 Myr. Based on high resolution spectra collected using the HERMES and UCLES spectrographs on the Anglo-Australian telescope, we present radial velocities and abundances for Fe, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca and Ni. The measured radial velocities are -38.63 ± 2.25 km s⁻¹ for NGC 5617 and -38.46 ± 2.08 km s⁻¹ for Trumpler 22. The mean metallicity of NGC 5617 was found to be [Fe/H] = -0.18 ± 0.02 and for Trumpler 22 was found to be [Fe/H] = -0.17 ± 0.04. The two clusters share similar abundances across the other elements, indicative of a common chemical enrichment history of these clusters. Together with common motions and ages we confirm that NGC 5617 and Trumpler 22 are a primordial binary cluster pair in the Milky Way.Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísica
