Tau imaging with [18F]THK-5351 in progressive supranuclear palsy
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Visualization of pathogenic protein aggregates is crucial to elucidate pathomechanisms and to make an accurate diagnosis in many neurodegenerative conditions. Aggregates of the microtubule-binding protein, tau, are one of the most important pathogenic molecules in neurodegenerative disorders. Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is characterized by the deposition of tau proteins in some specific area such as the basal ganglia and brainstem. We tried to detect tau lesions in the brains of living patients with PSP with a novel positron emission tomography (PET) tracer, [18 F]THK-5351, which we have recently developed. METHODS: Paraffin-embedded brain sections of the patients with PSP were used for autoradiography with [3 H]THK-5351 and immunohistochemistry. Nine healthy controls, 13 patients with Alzheimer's disease and three patients with PSP participated in this PET study with [18 F]THK-5351. To detect amyloid-β deposition, PET imaging with Pittsburgh compound B was also performed. RESULTS: Autoradiography in the brain sections of patients with PSP demonstrated [3 H]THK-5351 binding to tau deposits with a high selectivity. Although patients with PSP exhibited no remarkable [18 F]THK-5351 retention in the temporal cortex, significantly higher tracer retention was observed in the globus pallidus and midbrain. In contrast, amyloid imaging with Pittsburgh compound B showed no remarkable accumulation in the cerebral cortex of PSP. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that [18 F]THK-5351 PET can potentially be used to detect the regional brain distribution of tau lesions in PSP, thereby facilitating the differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders associated with tau protein
Visualization of ischemic stroke-related changes on 18F-THK-5351 positron emission tomography
Abstract Background The 18F-THK-5351 radiotracer has been used to detect the in vivo tau protein distribution in patients with tauopathy, such as Alzheimer’s disease and corticobasal syndrome. In addition, 18F-THK-5351 can also monitor neuroinflammatory process due to high affinity to astrogliosis. We aimed to explore 18F-THK-5351 distribution patterns and characteristics in patients with recent ischemic stroke. Results Fifteen patients received 18F-THK-5351 positron emission tomography (PET) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) approximately 3 months after ischemic stroke. A region of interest (ROI) was placed in the peri-ischemic area and was mirrored on the contralateral side as the control, and a proportional value was derived from the ratio of the peri-ischemic ROI value over the mirrored ROI value. Increased 18F-THK-5351 retention was observed in the areas around and remote from the stroke location. The proportional 18F-THK-5351 values were negatively correlated with the proportional fractional anisotropy values (r = − 0.39, P = 0.04). Conclusion 18F-THK-5351 PET imaging provides a potential tool for in vivo visualization of the widespread ischemia-related changes associated with a microstructural disruption in recent ischemic stroke patients

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The influence of co-treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis B-5351 and salicylic acid on the resistance of potato plants to Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary
Изучено совместное влияние эндофитного штамма бактерий Bacillus thuringiensis B-5351 и салициловой кислоты (SA) на устойчивость растений картофеля к возбудителю фитофтороза оомицету Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary. Впервые показано увеличение численности эндофитных бактерий Bacillus thuringiensis B-5351 во внутренних тканях растений под действием салициловой кислоты (SA). При этом выявлено более чем двукратное сокращение площади поражения фитофторозом на листьях картофеля при совместном действии SA и бактериального штамма, чего мы не наблюдали в случае действия только бактерий B. thuringiensis B-5351. Увеличение устойчивости растений в этом случае сопровождалось активацией ингибитора трипсина, накоплением перекиси водорода и транскриптов генов, кодирующих ингибиторы протеиназ (PR6), маркер развития салицилат-зависимых реакций PR1, фенилаланин-аммонийлиазу, участвующую в биосинтезе SA. Обработка растений только бактериями B. thuringiensis B-5351 не способствовала развитию описанных реакций. Таким образом, в растениях картофеля обнаружена синергически развивающаяся защитная реакция против фитофтороза с участием бактерий B. thuringiensis B-5351 и SA в условиях их совместного применения, где бактериальный штамм праймирует защитные гены, а SA характеризуется свойствами триггера их экспрессии
