Data_Sheet_2_Circ_0000215 Exerts Oncogenic Function in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma by Targeting miR-512-5p.doc
Background: Increasing circular RNAs (circRNAs) are reported to participate in cancer progression. Nonetheless, the role of circRNAs in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has not been fully clarified. This work is aimed to probe the role of circ_0000215 in NPC.Methods: Circ_0000215 expression in NPC tissues and cell lines was examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU) assay, scratch healing assay and Transwell experiment were executed to investigate the regulatory function of circ_0000215 on the proliferation, migration and invasion of NPC cells. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), pull-down and dual-luciferase reporter experiments were utilized to determine the binding relationship between circ_0000215 and miR-512-5p, and between miR-512-5p and phosphoinositide-3-kinase regulatory subunit 1 (PIK3R1) 3′UTR. The effects of circ_0000215 on NPC growth and metastasis in vivo were examined with nude mice model. Western blot was applied to detect the regulatory effects of circ_0000215 and miR-512-5p on PIK3R1 expression.Results: Circ_0000215 was overexpressed in NPC tissues and cell lines. The functional experiments confirmed that knockdown of circ_0000215 impeded the growth and metastasis of NPC cells in vitro and in vivo. Additionally, circ_0000215 could also work as a molecular sponge to repress miR-512-5p expression. PIK3R1 was validated as a target gene of miR-512-5p, and circ_0000215 could increase the expression level of PIK3R1 in NPC cells via suppressing miR-512-5p.Conclusion: Circ_0000215 is overexpressed in NPC and exerts oncogenic effects in NPC through regulating miR-512-5p/PIK3R1 axis.</p

Analysis of SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256
In 2012, NIST standardized SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256, two truncated variants of SHA-512, in FIPS 180-4. These two hash functions are faster than SHA-224 and SHA-256 on 64-bit platforms, while maintaining the same hash size and claimed security level. So far, no third-party analysis of SHA-512/224 or SHA-512/256 has been published. In this work, we examine the collision resistance of step-reduced versions of SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256 by using differential cryptanalysis in combination with sophisticated search tools. We are able to generate practical examples of free-start collisions for 44-step SHA-512/224 and 43-step SHA-512/256. Thus, the truncation performed by these variants on their larger state allows us to attack several more rounds compared to the untruncated family members. In addition, we improve upon the best published collisions for 24-step SHA-512 and present practical collisions for 27 steps of SHA-512/224, SHA-512/256, and SHA-512
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Direct numerical simulation of heat transfer of round subsonic impinging jets at high Reynolds number
Impinging jets provide an effective cooling method for various applications such as the cooling of aircraft turbine blades. The latest generation of high performance computers allows us to investigate those at practically relevant Reynolds numbers Re by means of direct numerical simulations. In order to analyse the heat transfer of a confined round impinging jet, two direct numerical simulations are performed at Re=3300 and Re=8000 using a grid of 512 x 512 x 512 respectively 1024 x 1024 x 1024 points. Each configuration is fully turbulent. The first one features two annular regions with local maxima of heat transfer at the impinging plate. These effects are related to high wall-normal turbulent heat fluxes caused by vortical structures of the turbulent flow field. The second simultion is ongoing.
