Two holes (462, 462A) were drilled at Site 462 in the Nauru Basin, within an area formed at a fast-spreading Pacific-plate boundary 145 to 155 m.y. ago. Forty-eight sediment samples were received and analyzed by X-ray diffraction according to the methods described in Mann and Müller (1980). Carbonate contents were determined by the "Karbonat-Bombe" method of Müller and Gastner (1971).
The upper 447 meters of the sedimentary section at Hole 462 consists of mainly turbiditic, calcareous, and radiolarian oozes, cherts, chalks, and limestones, which are in turn underlain by volcanogenic and zeolitic sandstones and siltstones (447-561 m). Three sedimentary units have been distinguished; Unit IV - below 561 meters - is predominantly basalt and dolerite with interlayered sediments

The solvent-extractable lipids of Sections 462-49-4 (lower Maestrichtian), 462-54-2 (Campanian), and 462-59-1 (Cenomanian), from the Nauru Basin, were investigated for aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, alcohols, and acids, after separation into acid and neutral fractions. Detailed analyses of the total neutral fraction revealed only n-alkanes, steranes, and triterpanes present in sufficient concentration (>0.5 ng/100 g dry sediment for individual compounds) for component recognition. N-alkanes (C19-C35) constitute the major component of each section, with the most abundant present as 10 (n-C24), 135 (n-C29), 17 (n-C26) ng/100 g dry sediment in Sections 462-49-4, 462-54-2, and 462-59-1, respectively.
The results suggest a high degree of thermal maturity of the lipids, which is interpreted in terms of the high geothermal gradient (about 50°C/km) and the regional volcanicity. The lipid data also suggest that the major source of organic matter was terrestrial and that deposition took place in a low-productivity oxic environment

Concentration gradients of Ca, Mg, K, Sr, and Li at Site 462, Leg 61, are linear with depth; large changes occur in the unsampled, low-porosity limestone-chert zone between 375 and 445 meters. Correlations between Ca and Mg are linear, but breaks occur in Ca-Sr and Ca-K correlations. These breaks imply release of strontium in the limestones (recrystallization of carbonate) and uptake of potassium (formation of authigenic K-feldspar?)

The lipids of a Pliocene and a Cretaceous sample from Site 462 were analyzed to assess their source and diagenetic history. Judging from the distributions of the n-alkanes, n-fatty acids, n-alkylcyclohexanes and molecular markers, they are autochthonous, of marine origin, and deposited under oxic paleoenvironmental conditions of sedimentation. The stereochemistry of the various molecular markers (e.g., triterpanes and steranes) of the Pliocene sample indicates that the lipids are geologically mature. Secondly, it is the theoretical idea of the next stage of human evolution. Right now, humans are composed off 44 and 2 chromosomes. Adding 2 more would make us 46 and 2, also known as, Christ Consciousness . it is obviously not science, but I like the idea of humans obtaining a higher consciousness
