No full textThe authors explore the potential relevance of the United Nations initiative Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) in 50 years’ time, including whether, and how, the six Principles on which it is based will change in any way. PRME was initiated in 2007 by over 60 Deans of Business Schools worldwide in response to the UN Global Compact to address sustainability in management education (more information can be found at www.unprme.org). Since 2007, PRME has influenced academic discourse related to sustainability in management education and, in turn, has had a wider impact, for instance on business schools’ programme portfolios, curricula and accreditation standards, illustrated by those of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). More than 10 years’ after the launch of PRME, the need to address sustainability in management education is perhaps becoming even more acute, in part due to indirect and contextual issues, including those relating to the environment and geopolitics, and in part due to more direct factors, such as the trends in artificial intelligence. In this context, the authors consider whether PRME might still exist in 2068 and, if so, what it might look like. The research is based on semi-structured discussions with senior managers, academics and students of a number of PRME signatory higher education institutions. The discussions focused on five questions: 1. Looking ahead to 2068, what issues do you feel are likely to emerge and/or become more pronounced for management education? 2. Taking into account any issues identified (in question 1), to what extent do you feel the Six Principles are ‘future proof’ or will require to be re-defined and/or modified? 3. Do you feel that PRME will continue to exist in 2068 and, if it does, would you regard that as a success or a failure? 4. If you think it will exist in 2068, what do you imagine a PRME model might look like? If you do not believe it will exist, what factors do you think might lead to it ceasing to exist? 5. If you had three questions to ask a clairvoyant, what would you ask about a PRME model in 2068? This paper reports the findings to date.<br/
A polarimetric study of the reflection nebulae NGC 2068 and NGC 2023 in the Orion R1 association
Get PDFPolarimetry studies of two reflection nebulae in the Orion R1 association are used to determine the nature of the dust in which recently formed stars are embedded in, and show the geometry of the surrounding dust cloud. The data reductions presented are on NGC 2068 and NGC 2023, which are centres of recent low-mass star formation and are embedded on the nearside of LI 630. In the case of NGC 2068, it appears that there is a single illuminating star which illuminates a foreground tilted slab of varying dust density from the rear. A simple tilted slab model assuming single Mie scattering from homogeneous spherical grains was used to fit visual data of traces of polarization, polarized intensity and total intensity through HD 38563N in a north-south direction. The model favoured metallic grains; the best fit being for iron grains and a slab 0.5 parsecs in front of HD 38563N tilted at an angle 55 degrees to the line-of-sight. In the case of NGC 2023, multicolour polarimetry is presented in B,V,R,I and Z. The star HD 37903 was found to be the sole illuminating star. A model to fit the spectral dependence of polarization gave low refractive index grains assuming a power law size distribution. Associated with NGC 2023 are Herbig-Haro objects HH-1, 4, which were found not to be polarized

Attitudes towards the future & 2068 storytelling
No full textThe present research aims to explore young people’s images of the future (set in 2068 and 2038) through design futures methods. The research was undertaken during May - September 2018, with the primary data being collected during two week-long workshops each with around 35 participants. The participants were aged 16-17 years old and travelled to London from a range of countries across the world.
The data describes the participants' responses to an attitudinal survey designed to surface their assumptions about the future. The data also describes stories they developed about the world in 2068, as well as the roles they envisaged they would have played through their future careers
