In large and complex civil engineering projects, well-managed information enables easier and faster access to the required data when available. In the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, professionals and data managers constantly seek to optimize the information management process to better collaborate in projects that include GIS & BIM integrated workflows. The publication of ISO 19650-1:2018 & ISO 19650-2:2018 (ISO 19650-1&2:2018) standards on best practices for information management, including BIM, was recognized as an opportunity to the digital organization of these processes. As a result, main BIM software vendors have started supporting ISO 19650-1&2:2018 in their platforms, and (non)-governmental organizations have started adopting them in their projects. However, the advancement in the field of GIS BIM integration and the tightly integrated workflows drew the attention towards the need for supporting ISO 19650-1&2:2018in Web GIS for web services. I3S web service is an example of an open OGC Community standard that allows the consumption of 3D GIS data and 3D GIS data converted from 3D BIM data in Web GIS. In this thesis, field analysis addresses the challenges and the role of the Web GIS platform in projects information management processes of the Hoogwaterbeschermingprogramma (HWBP) as a case study. Then, literature studies review ISO 19650-1&2:2018 in the context of the HWBP to highlight the need for a Common Data Environment (CDE) in the Web GIS platform to support ISO 19650-1&2:2018. Moreover, the review tackles the CDE components specified in Part-2 of ISO 19650-1&2:2018, such as metadata allocation. Finally, this thesis discussed the implementation of the CDE components for I3S web services in ArcGIS Online as a Web GIS platform. The novel contribution of this thesis is providing a contextual overview of ISO 19650-1&2:2018 standards in the project information management processes that include working with GIS & BIM data. Moreover, using the British national annex (BS EN ISO 19650-1&2), a flowchart was developed for the metadata allocation systems of information container workflows. Furthermore, the reference implementation discussed a variety of options to implement the metadata allocation components in Web GIS. The discussion provided a solution and PoC functionalities of the CDE components for managing I3S web services. The resulting solution on the CDE components can be utilized to configure CDE workflows and technical solutions to enable ISO 19650-1&2:2018 compliant workflowsin Web GIS.Geomatic

Celem tej propozycji jest z jednej strony wsparcie osób czynnie zaangażowanych w przygotowanie i realizację projektów BIM na krajowym rynku budowlanym, a z drugiej animowanie dyskusji nad wypracowaniem oraz ustabilizowaniem polskiej terminologii norm BIM z serii ISO 19650 i w konsekwencji przygotowanie wysokiej jakości tłumaczenia polskich wersji norm ISO 19650.Standardisation of BIM information processes is a significant element of successful implementation of BIM level 2 information management procedures all over the world. Back in 2018, the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) has published a long awaited ISO 19650 BIM information standard, to be precise the two first standards of the ISO 19650 family, namely the ISO 19650-1 and ISO 19650-2. Polish Standardisation Committee (PKN) has published those two standards in January and February of 2019 as PN-EN ISO 19650-1 and PN-EN ISO 19650-2, but without translation to Polish of the standards’ content. Because implementation of the BIM information standards into the Polish domestic projects based on the English version of the standards faces severe obstacles due to hermetic terminology that includes terms from the area of foreign law, construction technic, information technology, project management and even professionally settled/agrees terminology, this paper focuses on bringing a proposal of establishing official Polish terms of the ISO 19650 standards by either translating or localising original English terms into the Polish language and/or construction market culture. The objectives of this paper are twofold: firstly, empower the Polish professionals active both in implementing BIM information management processes into the construction projects or delivering the actual solutions with a precise and profound understanding of the ISO norms principles and rules to leverage the BIM success ratio, secondly to animate an industry-wide discussion on the official Polish ISO 19650 terminology that will help to provide high quality translation of the ISO 19650 standards into Polish

The background for the thesis is analysis of the new ISO standard, NS-EN ISO 19650-1 & 2: 2018 (Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modeling (BIM), Information management using building information modelling). The standard series came on the basis of experience gained during the development of Heathrow terminal 5 in London and is built on best practice. This means that the United Kingdom has developed a practice of how to work with many suppliers in a project, with support for management and production of information during the life cycle of a building using Building Information Modeling (BIM). It appears in a hierarchy of information requirements, presented in part 1 of ISO 19650, that the Organization information requirements (OIR) are poorly emphasized today and thus I have come to the following issue: How can standardization using ISO 19650 contribute to better ownership perspectiv and information management in the design phase by taking into account the life cycle of the building? The approach to the problem has been made through studies and analyzes of the standard. It has not been possible to get in touch with anyone who has practiced BIM in their projects, and who could have helped to understand the ownership perspective and information management in construction projects using BIM. The purpose of the thesis will be to identify tasks related to the ownership perspective and what choices the owner must make to take full advantage of information management related to ISO 19650. The ownership perspective is not carefully specified in the standard and it will therefore be appropriate to shed light on what is included in the Organization information requirements (OIR) and how this affects the structure in the life cycle with additional standards presented. Digitization of information regarding buildings requires a controlled environment for sharing data and information, so that the owner of the building has increased control over his facilities and values. Throughout the life cycle of the structure, information and data are produced, and this is where ISO 19650 provides a framework for how this information should flow through a system of information management. It defines what a client should take into account at different stages of the life cycle of a building, and what information is required so that the client can make the right decisions. This must be planned, with the implementation of ISO 19650, which helps customers and suppliers, so that they can gain a common understanding of the organization's information requirements in the larger context. It helps the ownership perspective to have "order in its own house" so that the company can manage information and data in a good way. ISO 19650 can be of great help both to improve corporate governance and to improve information management, but one is dependent on the standard being used correctly. It helps the client / owner to keep "order in their own house", right from the needs assessment, through the design phase and throughout the building's life cycle. However, the standard is completely new, and has thus not yet been properly implemented

Challenges of ISO 19650 Application on Public Health Projects

    Get PDF
Despite the benefits of Building Information Modeling (BIM), some challenges to implementing it have appeared due to traditional project management, especially in the construction of complex projects. This article presents the challenges to applying ISO 19650:2018 Parts 1 and 2 in public hospital projects in Peru. These challenges were identified through 28 interviews with owners, designers, contractors, suppliers, operators, and final users (doctors and nurses) and complemented by a literature review. The identified challenges were divided into the budget, legal framework, organizational culture, and personnel. The results suggest that the adversities identified in the four groups should be overcome to implement BIM according to the ISO 19650 guidelines. Therefore, recommendations are presented to facilitate the ISO 19650 implementation in public hospital projects
