    ISO 19115 for GeoWeb services orchestration

    The paper describes theoretical and practical possibilities of ISO 19115 standard in a process of generating dynamic GeoWeb services orchestras. There are several ways how to instantiate orchestras according to current state of services and user needs, some of them are briefly described in the paper. The most flexible way is based on metadata that describe geodata used by services. The most common standard used for geodata metadata in the EU is ISO 19115. The paper should describe if the standard is able (without extensions) to hold enough information for orchestration purposes. The paper defines minimal set of metadata items named ”ISO 19115 Orchestration Minimal” that must be available for geodata evaluation in a process of orchestration. A second part of the article will be probably less optimistic. It should describe how are (or were, or are planned to be) ISO 19115 possibilities used for metadata creation nowadays in the Czech Republic. This part is based on analyses of ISO 19115 core, MIDAS system, Dublin Core and INSPIRE metadata IR

    The German Environmental Data Catalogue UDK (German: Umweltdatenkatalog) is the standard tool for public access to environmental metadata in Germany and Austria. Considering the necessity of presenting more data from different sources in a homogeneous way, the UDK needs a normative data model for exchanging easily data with other databases like GeoMIS.Bund. In order to achieve this aim the UDK data model is extended to be compatible with the ISO 19115 standard (International Organization for Standardization) for geographic Information, finally aiming to fulfill the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on public access to environmental information. In this paper an actual review about the UDK is given and the development of the ISO 19115 compatibility is presented. Zusammenfassung Der Deutsche Umweltdatenkatalog UDK ist die Standardanwendung für den öffentlichen Zugang zu Umweltmetadaten in Deutschland und Österreich. Aufgrund der Notwendigkeit, immer mehr Umweltdaten aus unterschiedlichen Quellen einheitlich darzustellen, benötigt der UDK ein normiertes Datenmodel, so dass der Datenaustausch mit anderen Systemen, wie z.B. GeoMIS.BUND ermöglicht wird. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wird das UDK Datenmodell gemäß des ISO 19115 Standards (International Organization for Standardization) erweitert, sodass die Richtlinie 2003/4/EG über den Zugang der Öffentlichkeit zu Umweltinformationen erfüllt wird.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     INA-SDI merupakan inisiatif untuk berbagi (sharing) data antar instansi pemerintah Indonesia yang dikoordinatori oleh Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG). Pencarian data antar instansi pemerintah melalui aplikasi jaringan data spasial nasional (JDSN) menggunakan metadata spasial. Metadata spasial berisikan informasi mengenai informasi data, pemilik data, akses terhadap data. Metadata tersebut dibuatkan berdasarkan standar yangdisepakati yaitu ISO 19115/19139. LAPAN melalui Pustekdata sebagai unit kliring mempunyai kewajiban untuk menyampaikan data citra yang dimiliki kedalam simpul jaringan. Namun metadata yang ada sekarang ini masih menggunakan metadata dengan format dari stasiun bumi. Untuk itu perlu di lakukan konversi metadata ke standar ISO 19115/19139. Proses konversi secara manual sangat membutuhkan waktu, perlu ada proses otomatisasi. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk membuat kajian mengenai elemen metadata yang akan dikonversi dan pembuatan modul untukkonversi metadata.     Sharing ISO 19115 Metadata in NOKIS – Experiences, Features, Perspectives

    NOKIS (North See and Baltic See Coastal Information System) main objective is to establish a metadata information system for the German North Sea and Baltic Sea coastal regions. Starting back in January 2001 it was one of the first metadata systems using an extended element set of ISO 19115. It became so far one of the most advanced suites for the Web-based management of large-scale environmental metadata. With this paper we would like to participate in the lively discussion about the use and the usefulness of ISO 19115 in the environmental domain by sharing our experiences. In addition we would like to present and discuss the newest features of the system, which we believe are interesting for most future metadata applications. First to mention a service for the transformation of geographic coordinates into different coordinate system. Secondly, our new extensible query mechanism which provides simple user interface to a flexible construction of complex queries.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
