    Victor Fazio Interview, 2006

    No full text
Victor Fazio of the Shaker Lakes Nature Center recalls his experiences at the Shaker Lakes beginning in the 1970s. Fazio, a bird-watching enthusiast, provides a wealth of information about the bird population at Shaker Lakes over roughly three decades, connecting ecological chages to changes in bird behavior and population. Also discussed is the history of birding at Shaker Lakes, which dates back to at least 1905, emerging from the Conservation Movement of the early 20th century. Fazio credits his interest in bird-watching and environmental issues to his education at Shaker Heights High School, to the mentorship of ornithologist Jean Aiken, and to the community of naturalists in the region

Giorgio Fazio, Estelle Ferrarese and Stefano Petrucciani discuss Hartmut Rosa's "Alienation and Acceleration". The authors present Rosa's main theses and critically analyze them. Fazio deals with the author's theory of social acceleration, focusing on its methodological presuppositions. Ferrarese traces Rosa's relation to the first Frankfurt School (Adorno in particular). Petrucciani shows some limits of a diagnosis based on one unique principle - i.e., acceleration - and maintains that two sources of alienation can be identified: capitalistic competition and the hypertrophy of bureaucratic systems

Piergiorgio Donatelli, Giorgio Fazio and Stefano Petrucciani discuss Rahel Jaeggi's "Alienation" on the occasion of its Italian and English translations. Donatelli goes over crucial moments in the book and suggests a different way to tackle the issues treated from a Wittgensteinian perspective. Fazio places Jaeggi's work within German philosophical threads and connects it at the end with Jaeggi's recent work on forms of life. Petrucciani examines the book from the perspective of critical theory and of Marx's treatment of notions such as "Entfremdung" and "Entäusserung"
