    Benessere animale cartesiano

    No full text
Genetic modification of non-human animals for use in human activities, including farming and research, may result in animals with reduced (or absent) capacity to experience stress and suf-fering compared to conspecifics currently used for the same purposes. It seems that creating “Cartesian animals” is a possibility that should be considered as a potentially desirable out-come, since reducing or eliminating suffering seems to be a goal shared by almost every ethical perspective, not just utilitarianism.Although initially appealing, such a perspective needs to be critically examined to ensure that its many implications are fully understood. One possible ap-proach is to determine whether it is consistent with existing frameworks for defining and as-sessing animal welfare. It is clear that using these techniques can be beneficial where there is a greater risk to animal welfare. However, to the extent that the concept of animal welfare re-quires animals to be considered as agents and these techniques would either limit or remove their capacity for agency, a number of critical issues can arise. Over-reliance on the potential of genetic editing may preclude achieving moral progress that would lead to a deeper rethinking of the relationship between humans and non-human animals. These techniques are undoubtedly promising. In certain contexts of human-animal interaction, they are worth recommending. However, they need to be carefully evaluated when implemented within the broader frame-work of human-animal relationships

‘Colpa’, ‘Sanzione’ e ‘Autonomia’ nella vicenda di un omicidio negato

    No full text
The contribution presents a critical examination of the el¬ements of the philosophy of law that emerge from reading a famous work by Henrik Stangerup. The analysis takes into consideration the dystopian perspective offered by the work and seeks to verify the contemporary relevance of certain legal paradigms: ‘guilt’, ‘sanction’ and ‘autono¬my’. In this way, the contribution seeks to offer a critical view of the authority inside the contemporary legal sys¬tems as it constrains the freedom of the individual in ways that deny the dignity of the person and his relations with other subjects

Starting from con¬cepts dear to the theory of law, we will try to analyze the point of view of extra-national legislation to understand its limits and potential in the protection of non-hetero¬sexual and/ or non-binary minorities

Mapping interpreting in a religious context

    No full text
This paper explores the theoretical and conceptual framework of interpreting in a religious context as an already established field of research within Interpreting Studies and seeks to establish common ground for terms and concepts used by researchers of this field in an effort to achieve agreement on terminology. Although the terms and concepts currently in use are based on valid assumptions and approaches, their diversity has thus far hindered the comparison and systematisation of empirical data published in this specific academic field. After proposing interpreting in a religious context as an umbrella term covering the various ramifications of this specific type of interpreting and research, this paper maps the conceptual relationships between context and setting, between interpreting as a general practice and its realisation in a religious context and proposes a definition for interpreting in a religious context. In the second part of the paper, a tentative set of specific features of interpreting in religious contexts is presented taking examples from the Roman Catholic Church as a first step towards further theoretical and empirical research in a broader array of denominations and religions
