Delaunay triangulations with predictions
We investigate algorithms with predictions in computational geometry, specifically focusing on the basic problem of computing 2D Delaunay triangulations. Given a set of points in the plane and a triangulation that serves as a "prediction" of the Delaunay triangulation, we would like to use to compute the correct Delaunay triangulation more quickly when is "close" to . We obtain a variety of results of this type, under different deterministic and probabilistic settings, including the following: 1) Define to be the number of edges in that are not in . We present a deterministic algorithm to compute from in time, and a randomized algorithm in expected time, the latter of which is optimal in terms of . 2) Let be a random subset of the edges of , where each edge is chosen independently with probability . Suppose is any triangulation of that contains . We present an algorithm to compute from in time with high probability. 3) Define to be the maximum number of points of strictly inside the circumcircle of a triangle in (the number is if is equal to ). We present a deterministic algorithm to compute from in time. We also obtain results in similar settings for related problems such as 2D Euclidean minimum spanning trees, and hope that our work will open up a fruitful line of future research
Zapis, izgovor in naglasno mesto izbranih prevzetih besed s področja glasbe
This article focuses on the notation, pronunciation, and accentuation of selected borrowed musical expressions. Modern standardization aims to document various manifestations of language usage, and so one can find doublets in manuals indicating potential development options for individual manifestations in both notation and pronunciation. Therefore, normative manuals were searched for (doublet) notations and pronunciations of selected musical expressions, and a survey was used to verify which of the two options prevails
Influence of running speed, inclination, and fatigue on calcaneus angle in female runners
Running is a popular form of physical activity with significant health benefits, but improper technique can lead to running-related injuries. This study investigates the influence of running speed, incline, and fatigue on calcaneus eversion/inversion angle at heel strike, maximum eversion angle, and range of motion, factors associated with lower limb injuries. Fifteen injury-free female runners participated in this study. Kinematic data were collected using a 3D motion capture system with reflective markers placed directly on the skin through specially modified running shoes. The runners performed treadmill trials at varying speeds (10, 12, and 14 km/h) and inclines (0°, 5°, and 10°), both before and after a fatigue-inducing 30-min run. The results indicate that higher speeds were associated with an increase in inversion angle at heel strike (p = 0.05) and range of motion (p = 0.02 before fatigue), both of which are linked to chronic ankle instability and Achilles tendinopathy. Running at an incline reduced both maximum eversion angle (p = 0.002 after fatigue) and range of motion (p = 0.003 after fatigue), suggesting a protective effect against excessive eversion. Fatigue increased range of motion (p = 0.05), which is a risk factor for instability and overuse injuries. These findings suggest that running at higher speeds and in a fatigued state may increase the likelihood of injuries due to increased range of motion, whereas incline running may mitigate this risk by reducing excessive eversion and range of motion. Understanding these biomechanical changes can inform injury prevention strategies for runners
Risk management framework for competitive alpine skiing - co-developed with stakeholders
Previous research has shown that stakeholders in the competitive alpine skiing communities consider risk management to be crucial in sports injury prevention. However, to date, there is a lack of a publicly available systematic and structured risk management approach for the competitive alpine skiing context. This work describes the codevelopment process of a risk management framework with stakeholders in the field of competitive alpine skiing. A panel of international experts invited through personal requests and with expertise in health protection and performance enhancement in competitive alpine skiing convened three times through online group meetings to codevelop a risk management framework through different activities. The underlying discussions focused on the fundamental questions of ‘why’, ‘what’, ‘who’, ‘how’ and ‘for whom’ and included the debate on specific examples from sports practice. The outcome after three meetings was a risk management framework. This framework includes a competitive alpine skiing-specific prevention wheel that integrates different stakeholder views relevant to different levels, their risk priorities, the main five domains and intervention areas identified from the literature, the graded and progressive timescale to intervene and the potential targets for risk management interventions. Moreover, the framework includes a decision-making tree, which operationalises the prevention wheel into a step-by-step sequence for risk management, including risk identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation. It should help stakeholders recognise their responsibilities and the potential actions they can take. Practical examples are provided to demonstrate how to apply the framework and to illustrate the complexity and dynamic interaction of the various factors in the competitive alpine skiing setting. The risk management framework developed lays a strong foundation for creating a safer environment for alpine skiers. It likewise contributes to providing overall awareness of the complexity and inter-relations of risks and prevention measures in the sport. By doing so, this framework has the potential to initiate further processes and on-field translation to sustainably and long-term improve athlete health and safety in competitive alpine skiing
Economic effects of sport
In Slovenia, we have not often researched or discussed sports from an economic perspective, especially not regarding the various economic effects of sports and related industries. Today, sports are no longer just a physical activitytoday, sports, directly and indirectly, along with all related industries, represent one of the largest economic areas in the world with numerous social and economic effects. Since Slovenia is one of those countries where the population has a high propensity for sports and also supports it, as does the government, we conducted the Targeted Research Project VP-2344, financed by MGTŠ and ARIS, in which we assess the economic and social effects of sports in Slovenia, particularly in the field of large international sporting events. Through these events, Slovenia presents itself as an excellent organizer and as an interesting sports and tourism destination. The project\u27s results show the multiplicative effects of such events. It would be sensible to include all effects and others in a set of satellite accounts that could at least periodically show what the most important economic implications are, such as impact on GDP, employability and other macroeconomic criteria
Development and evaluation of innovative lipid based delivery systems for dermal and subcutaneous treatment of atopic dermatitis
Doktorska disertacija obsega področje raziskav in razvoja inovativnih dostavnih sistemov zdravilnih učinkovin. The doctoral dissertation covers the field of research and development of innovative drug delivery systems. These systems enable patient-friendly treatment, particularly relevant in the management of chronic diseases. Among them is atopic dermatitis (AD), the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease in the developed world. Complex pathophysiology of AD and limited effectiveness of current therapies call for development of new, improved treatment strategies. A principal role is played by innovative formulation approaches for dermal delivery of classical synthetic drugs and subcutaneous delivery of biological drugs. Within this framework, the dissertation explores potential of innovative lipid based delivery systems. Research focuses on lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs), an attractive platform for dermal and subcutaneous drug delivery. We developed lamellar LCCs for dermal application, based on an innovative multi-target treatment strategy for AD, which has not yet been described. With biomimetic microstructure, LLCs enable prolonged skin hydration, while selected lipids contribute to restoring impaired skin barrier, crucial for breaking the chronic cycle of dry, irritated skin, and enabling comprehensive and causal therapy for AD. LCCs ensure excellent biocompatibility, essential for sensitive atopic skin, and enhance dermal absorption of betamethasone dipropionate, enabling therapeutic effect at lower doses and reducing risk of side effects typical of topical corticosteroids. In parallel, we developed advanced in situ forming cubic/hexagonal LLCs for subcutaneous application of a model peptide drug. These LLCs exhibit suitable rheological properties for injection, allow rapid and convenient in situ phase transition upon contact with aqueous environment, and enable prolonged peptide release, reducing dosing frequency. This classifies them as promising depot systems for subcutaneous delivery of biological drugs. Advantages of newly developed formulations with rationally designed functional properties for dermal and subcutaneous application represent a significant contribution to advanced therapeutic strategies and offer a promising basis for further development of innovative lipid based drug delivery systems

Ugotovitve kažejo, da tehnična priprava z uporabo računalniško podprtih programov omogoča večjo natančnost konstrukcije, boljšo ponovljivost kakovosti in učinkovitejši potek proizvodnega procesa. Analize materialov potrjujejo ustrezno razmerje med trdnostjo, razteznostjo in stabilnostjo, kar neposredno prispeva k udobju nošenja in daljši življenjski dobi izdelkov. Diplomsko delo potrjuje povezanost teoretičnega znanja in praktične uporabe ter poudarja pomen kakovostnega načrtovanja in nadzora kot temelja trajnostnega razvoja spodnjega perila in kopalk. The diploma thesis examines the development of women\u27s underwear and swimwear from design to final product. Its purpose is to demonstrate the impact of material selection, technical production preparation, and input control on product quality and durability. The work is divided into theoretical and experimental sections. The theoretical section presents the properties of materials, the structural elements of products, the phases of technical preparation for production, and the importance of material quality control. The experimental section was conducted at Lisca d. o. o., where the entire product development process is presented, from material selection and laboratory analyses to production stages.
The experimental section analyses the physical and mechanical parameters and colour fastness of the materials used. The materials tested are polyamide, elastane, viscose, and cotton, as well as lace and elastic bands. The measurement procedures include tests of tensile strength, elastic properties and recovery, dimensional changes after washing, and colour fastness under various conditions. The results show that all tested materials exhibit high elasticity, good dimensional stability, and adequate colour fastness, confirming their suitability for products that come into direct contact with the skin.
The results confirm that careful selection of materials and consistent implementation of incoming inspections significantly affect the quality, functionality, and durability of the final product. The findings indicate that technical production preparation using computer-aided programmes enables greater design accuracy, improved quality consistency, and a more efficient production process. Material analyses confirm the appropriate balance between strength, elasticity, and stability, which directly contributes to wearing comfort and longer product life. The thesis confirms the link between theoretical knowledge and practical application, and emphasises the importance of quality design and control as the foundation for the sustainable development of underwear and swimwear
Fermented foods consumption, all-cause, and cause-specific mortality
Purpose: Fermented foods are widely consumed, contribute important bioactive compounds and microbial metabolites to the diet, and play an important role in global nutrition. This meta-analysis evaluated evidence from prospective cohort studies on the association between fermented food and non-alcoholic beverage consumption and the risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality in healthy adults.
Methods: A systematic search of three databases identified 50 cohort studies, including more than three million participants, examining associations between fermented food intake and all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Random-effects meta-analyses using the DerSimonian and Laird method, were conducted on fully adjusted risk estimates comparing highest vs. lowest intake categories.
Results: Higher consumption of chocolate, cheese, and fermented milks (including yogurt) was associated with lower all-cause and CVD mortality. Fermented milk consumption also showed a protective association with cancer mortality. Miso and bread consumption showed no significant associations with mortality.
Conclusion: This is the first meta-analysis to comprehensively evaluate the association between fermented food intake and mortality. Findings support a protective role for specific fermented foods consumption, i.e., milks, cheese, and chocolate, against all-cause and CVD mortality, with additional evidence of a protective effect of fermented milk on overall cancer mortality. These associations may underline the role of bioactive peptides, polyphenols, and microbial metabolites that modulate the gut microbiota, improve vascular function, and reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases
