    No full text
Od novih katalogizacijskih pravil si želijo manj strogosti in večjo enotnost. The master\u27s thesis focuses on the entry and processing of serial publications of the Slovenian National Library into the local COBISS+ catalogue, where the analysis of entered serial publications and interviews with Slovenian cataloguers presented the characteristics and challenges that arise during the inventory and cataloguing of serial publications. The purpose of the work was to determine which serial publications the Slovenian National Library contained and how they were organized, along with the specifics that serial cataloguers face. To obtain the results, the stock of serial publications of the Slovenian National Library was first inventoried and entered. Then, in February and March 2025, interviews were conducted with eight Slovenian cataloguers employed in public, academic, special and national library that deal with the cataloguing and inventory of continuous resources. The results showed that the Slovenian National Library had Slovenian ethnic newspapers, American and Slovenian newspapers, which did not have a systematic arrangement. Slovenian catalogers face the biggest challenge in processing serials due to the constant changes in continuous resources, for which they rely on prescribed manuals and standards, but prefer to rely on training notes. They want less rigor and greater uniformity from the new upcoming cataloguing rules

Off-axis reflective phase-only holograms with chiral liquid crystal

    No full text
The growing demand for holography and its wide-ranging applications necessitate advancements to make this technology more accessible and adaptable to modern technological requirements. Nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) enable holographic projection by exploiting the geometric phase of light through carefully designed phase patterns. However, NLC-based holography faces challenges, particularly in terms of projection quality and the presence of zero-order leakage—a bright spot that overlaps the reconstructed image. The efficiency of the reconstructed image is strictly related to the thickness of the NLC layer, which is challenging to control with high precision. In this work, we use chiral liquid crystal (CLC) to fabricate reflective holograms. To address the issue of leakage waves overlapping the reconstructed image, we propose an interference-based fabrication approach. This approach combines the phase pattern of the hologram with a diffraction grating by interfering a plane wave with a tailored wavefront precisely matching the hologram’s phase pattern. As a result, the image is reconstructed away from the zero-order reflection, and the leakage overlapping with the reconstructed image is reduced significantly

As multimodal texts, picture books are particularly suitable for promoting empathy and theory of mind. Thoughtful presentation of picture books to preschool children can, among other things, improve their ability to recognize, understand, and express emotions (and facilitate the transfer of knowledge about emotion regulation strategies from picture books to their own lives). This article presents a study based on the design, implementation, and evaluation of presenting four picture books about unpleasant emotions to two groups of preschool children four to six years old. The picture books were presented according to the basic principles of communicative literature teaching and the principles of teaching multimodal texts. Particularly in the phase of expressing the children’s aesthetic experience, it was observed how the unpleasant emotions represented in the picture books were reflected in the children’s reactions, especially in their linguistic, visual, and physical recreations of the picture books, and how the children related the emotions presented in these books to their own experiences

Čustva so temelj bralskega dejanja. Emotions are the basis of the reader’s action. Without the emotional participation of the reader, interpretation is not possible. The first impressions of a text can be extremely valuable, especially if they are developed further, through reflection and knowledge of literature. Reflection on first impressions is the starting point of this article, which draws attention to the importance of emotions in literary socialization and reading motivation at the intersection of Slovenian school curricula, reading motivation projects, PISA scores, and contemporary theoretical findings (Anderson, Damasio, and Felski)

Effects of speleotherapy on aerobiota: a case study from the Sežana hospital cave, Slovenia

    No full text
Speleotherapy is one of the non-pharmacological methods for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with chronic respiratory diseases, especially those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. On the one hand, one of the alleged main advantages of speleotherapeutic caves is the low microbial load in the air and the absence of other aeroallergens, but on the other hand, due to the lack of comprehensive air monitoring, there is little information on the pristine and human-influenced aerobiota in such environments. The aim of this study was to assess the anthropogenic effects of speleotherapy on the air microbiota and to investigate its potential impact on human health in Sežana Hospital Cave (Slovenia). From May 2020 to January 2023, air samples were collected in the cave before and after speleotherapeutic activities using two different volumetric air sampling methods—impaction and impingement—to isolate airborne microbiota. Along with sampling, environmental data were measured (CO2, humidity, wind, and temperature) to explore the anthropogenic effects on the aerobiota. While the presence of patients increased microbial concentrations by at least 83.3%, other parameters exhibited a lower impact or were attributed to seasonal changes. The structure and dynamics of the airborne microbiota are similar to those in show caves, indicating anthropization of the cave. Locally, concentrations of culturable microorganisms above 1000 CFU/m3 were detected, which could have negative or unpredictable effects on the autochthonous microbiota and possibly on human health. A mixture of bacteria and fungi typically associated with human microbiota was found in the air and identified by MALDI-TOF MS with a 90.9% identification success rate. Micrococcus luteus, Kocuria rosea, Staphylococcus hominis, and Staphylococcus capitis were identified as reliable indicators of cave anthropization

Communication and usage of different services digitally is becoming more and more common. The presence of digital services in public sector relieves the employees and offers a faster and more efficient performance. To improve digital public services we have to understand the main factors affecting the use of digital public services. In order to define the main factors affecting the use of digital public services, a qualitative research method of literature review was used. Only scientific articles in the database Web of Science from the past five years will be used. The research has to include the aforementioned factors. The most common factor that affects the use of digital public services is infrastructure. This factor was defined as the base for development of all the other factors. After infrastructure, the most important factors are available information, trust in government, digital literacy and transparency. Given that digital technology is becoming more and more common and that governments are trying to develop strong digital platforms, they should focus more on those factors and offer them more resources. This will lead to a more efficient usage of resources and relief of employe workloads

Analysis of the digital divide in Slovenia

In the digital age, the use of technologies is an integral part of everyday life in both professional and private spheres, yet certain population groups remain disadvantaged because they lack access or the competences required to use information and communication technologies. This phenomenon is known as the digital divide. It represents the gap between individuals who have access to and the competencies to use information and communication technologies (ICT) and those who do not. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the factors influencing the digital divide, while the empirical part analyses the digital divide in Slovenia during the period 2019–2024. Secondary data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia on internet and artificial intelligence use are analysed according to sociodemographic factors. In 2019–2024, the most pronounced factors of the digital divide in Slovenia were age and level of education. Digital literacy, an indicator of the second level of the digital divide, increased in all age groups, with the greatest progress observed among older people. Differences are also present between statistical regions, with the Osrednjeslovenska region showing the highest and the Pomurska region the lowest share of internet users. In Slovenia, only 21% of the population uses artificial intelligence, which raises questions about a new form of the digital divide. The thesis contributes to understanding and addressing the digital divide in Slovenia. The concluding chapter presents good practices from three selected European countries that can serve as a basis for further measures to reduce the digital divide in Slovenia. Good practices from Slovenia are also presented, offering insight into domestic approaches. The results highlight the key areas for effectively reducing the digital divide

Raziskave vse bolj usmerjajo terapije v aktivacijo protitumorskega imunskega odziva. Cancer is a complex disease in which the immune system plays a key role. Research is increasingly focusing on therapies that activate antitumor immune responses. One of the promising strategies is the combination of electrochemotherapy (ECT) and gene electrotransfer (GET). The aim of this master’s thesis was to investigate the effects of simultaneous electroporation of plasmid DNA (pDNA) and cytostatic drugs on transfection efficiency and cytotoxicity. The results showed that cytostatic drugs damage pDNAhowever, this does not reduce transgene expression. Furthermore, simultaneous electroporation does not diminish the effectiveness of ECT, but may even enhance it. We conclude that the combined use of ECT and GET with simultaneous electroporation is a suitable and clinically promising therapeutic approach that could simplify treatment protocols and improve patient outcomes
