Optimizing Cloud Cost Management : A FinOps-Driven Approach

    No full text
The rapid adoption of cloud computing gives organizations better efficiency, scalability, and flexibility. However, this shift to the cloud has introduced significant challenges in managing andcontrolling cloud resource expenses. Without robust cost management strategies, operational costs can escalate, depleting the financial benefit of using the cloud. In this thesis, I explore the implementation of cloud cost management using the FinOps framework to address these challenges. By focusing on the two domains of understanding and optimizing cloud usage and costs, I aim to improve the accessibility and accountability of cost and usage data to increase the awareness of cloud spending across an organization. I’ll present the insights from this data in detailed reports for various stakeholders, and based on these insights, I’ll suggest actionable rate, budget, and allocation optimizations

Barndom i förändring : En diskursanalys av hur sociala normer, makt och auktoritet förhandlas i Alfons Åberg-böcker

    No full text

Physiology-informed pharmacometric models for bacterial infections

    No full text
Bacterial infections remain a major global health challenge, further exacerbated by the rise of antibiotic resistance. Understanding the interplay between pathogen dynamics, host responses, and drug pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) is crucial for optimising treatment strategies. Pharmacometric modelling offers a powerful approach to integrating preclinical and clinical data, enhancing predictions of drug efficacy and infection progression. This thesis applies physiology-informed pharmacometric modelling to characterise bacterial infections and antibiotic action under various physiological conditions. Four key studies underpin this work. First, a cytokine response model was developed to describe inflammatory dynamics in a porcine sepsis model, capturing the role of endotoxin in immune activation. The model demonstrated how bacterial exposure patterns influence cytokine release, providing potential for model application in sepsis drug development. Second, physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling was employed to investigate meropenem disposition in septic patients, revealing sepsis-induced alterations in drug distribution and elimination. The findings emphasise the need for refined PBPK approaches that incorporate dynamic changes in renal transporter activity and fluid balance in septic patients. Third, plasma effects on bacterial time-kill dynamics were explored, revealing enhanced bacterial suppression in plasma-spiked media compared to traditional broth models. The results suggest that plasma components, possibly immune factors such as the complement system, influence bacterial growth and antibiotic activity. Finally, a lung-mimicking transwell tissue model was utilised to study antibiotic PKPD in lung infections. The developed model captured notable differences in bacterial growth and antibiotic activity between broth and lung tissue models, demonstrating drug-specific interactions with lung-like conditions. This thesis advances the understanding of the dynamics of the host-pathogen interactions, the antibiotic PK and PKPD under physiological conditions, and the utility of novel in vitro models for improved in vivo translation. By bridging gaps between experimental and clinical data, these findings may contribute to the development of more effective, personalised treatment strategies for infectious diseases

Module categories in the absence of adjunctions

    No full text
This thesis consists of an introduction and three research articles in the field of module categories. In Paper I, we we establish a biequivalence between the bicategory of cyclic module categories, Tambara modules and their morphisms for a fixed monoidal category, and the bicategory of monoids, bimodules and bimodule morphisms in the category of Tambara modules on the same monoidal category. This yields additional functoriality properties to the reconstruction theory of module categories for tensor categories, and gives a weak generalization thereof to the setting of general, in particular non-rigid, monoidal categories. Further, we prove an action-via-enrichment result for Tambara modules, extending the results of Wood into the non-closed setting. In Paper II, we define a notion of dual objects in semigroup categories. We show that if a semigroup category is rigid, then this semigroup category is promonoidal. We also solve a problem of lifting module categories for semigroup categories, and characterize finite tensor categories in terms of their semigroup categories of projective objects. In Paper III, we develop a reconstruction theory for abelian module categories over abelian monoidal categories which is very close to the tensor-categorical theory. Rather than (co)monoids in the base monoidal category , we obtain lax module (co)monads on it, generalizing (co)monoids, and we give counter-examples to the existence of a reconstructing monoid. For the monoidal category of comodules over a bialgebra, we show that such comonads are given by Hopf trimodule algebras. This gives categorical proofs of the theorem of Hopf trimodules of Hausser and Nill and the Hopf-monadic theorem of Hopf modules of Bruguières, Lack and Virelizier. Towards these results, we show an Eilenberg-Watts theorem for lax module monads, and extend the formalism of multicategories of Linton coequalizers of Aguiar, Haim and López Franco to the multiactegorical setting

Digital Play in Nature : A Study of Digital Play Installations from a Nature Play Perspective

    No full text
While digital play installations for outdoor use are becoming more common, little work has been done on how such technology shapes play in nature-rich environments. We performed a study of children's self-directed play with access to nature as well as digital installations. Our findings show that play with nature materials and digital installations emerged in different ways. Most notably, imaginative play was observed emerging in close interaction with nature, while the digital installations mostly inspired rule-based play. Furthermore, engagement with digital installations typically involved an active exploration phase which was not observed with nature materials. Nature materials instead engaged the children's senses more immediately, and often offered opportunities for collection and consumption, paving way for fluent play activities roaming large areas. We argue that these differences motivate rethinking the design of digital installations for play in nature and suggest guidelines to this purpose.2018-04049 Vinnova / Hållbara lekmiljöer i stade

Spinal lumbar Urocortin 3-expressing neurons are associated with both scratching and Compound 48/80-induced sensations

    No full text
Urocortin 3 is a neuropeptide that belongs to the corticotropin-releasing hormone family and is involved in mechanosensation and stress regulation. In this study, we show that Urocortin 3 marks a population of excitatory neurons in the mouse spinal cord, divided into 2 nonoverlapping subpopulations expressing protein kinase C gamma or calretinin/calbindin 2, populations previously associated with mechanosensation. Electrophysiological experiments demonstrated that lumbar spinal Urocortin 3 neurons receive both glycinergic and GABAergic local tonic inhibition, and monosynaptic inputs from both Aβ and C fibers, which could be confirmed by retrograde trans-synaptic rabies tracing. Furthermore, fos analyses showed that subpopulations of lumbar Urocortin 3 neurons are activated by artificial scratching or Compound 48/80-induced sensations. Chemogenetic activation of lumbar Urocortin 3-Cre neurons evoked a targeted biting/licking behavior towards the corresponding dermatome and chemogenetic inhibition decreased Compound 48/80-induced behavior. Hence, spinal lumbar Urocortin 3 neurons represent a mechanically associated population with roles in both scratching and Compound 48/80-induced sensations

The macroethics of science in a time of risis : Nobel Symposia, 1969‒1978

    No full text
In the mid-1960s the Nobel Foundation initiated a series of Nobel Symposia that continue to this day. These concerned areas associated with the Nobel Prizes in the sciences, literature, peace, and soon also economics. In 1969 the first of four ‘cross-cultural’ symposia was organized. This paper focuses on the first three of these (1969, 1974, 1978) and comments on the fourth (1983). These symposia were non-technical and focused on what was often described as ‘world problems’ considered at the time to constitute a serious global crisis, which included, for example, environmental degradation, nuclear threats, overpopulation and a diminishing status of science. An important ambition of the symposia, which failed, was to produce authoritative syntheses concerning the role of science in grappling with the global crisis, a consideration that is here described as ‘macroethical’. In conclusion, the sometimes-turbulent symposia are discussed in relation to ideas about reflexive modernization and associated phenomena (neoliberalism, innovation policy), seen as symptoms of the crisis and the criticism of traditional modernization theory that it helped trigger

The North-Eastern Neo-Aramaic Dialect of Tin

    No full text
The article presents the Neo-Aramaic dialect of Tin, a village in the Ṣapna valley in northern Iraq, focusing on the dialect’s phonology, morphology, and lexicon. This variety, spoken by Christians of the Chaldean Catholic Church, is most closely related to the nearby Christian dialect of Aradhin, but is nevertheless distinct in many ways. The synchronic description is supplemented with a comparative and historical perspective, indicating how Tin’s features fit into the NENA dialectal map and how unusual or unexpected forms can be explained by historical developments. Contact influences from Northern Kurdish and vernacular Arabic are also discussed. Interesting features of this dialect include the innovation of an initial /d/ in the Present Base forms of verba primae /ʾ/ and sporadic cases of vowel harmony

    No full text
