Evaluating Nix for automotive embedded targets

    No full text
This thesis evaluates the performance of software deployment and runtime behavior on different computing platforms used in automotive systems. The study compares the Nix package manager with the traditional APT system on both Linux and QNX operating systems, using x86 and ARM architectures. This thesis benchmarks performance using four key performance indicators (KPIs): installation time, memory usage, application startup time, and cache behavior. In addition to package management, the evaluation includes systematic experiments on symlink resolution and dynamic library loading — two critical factors affecting application startup latency and real-time responsiveness. The findings reveal distinct differences in how these operating systems and package managers handle caching, dependency isolation, and symbol resolution. These insights contribute to understanding the practical implications of adopting Nix in safety-critical, resource-constrained environments, and inform best practices for improving development efficiency and product reliability in the automotive domain.

#Drink or #Drunk? : An Experimental Study Investigating the Impact of Positive and Negative Alcohol Depictions in Ephemeral Social Media on Alcohol Cognitions

    No full text
Exposure to alcohol on social media has been linked to offline alcohol use. With the rise of ephemeral messages (e.g. Snapchat), social media users are exposed to a wider variety of alcohol depictions, ranging from negative to more positive ones. However, it remains unclear how exposure to differential alcohol depictions influences offline alcohol cognitions and who is most susceptible to them. We conducted an online between-subjects experiment manipulating the type of alcohol-related social media depictions (negative vs. positive vs. control) to investigate the impact on alcohol outcome expectations and attitudes. We also assessed whether alcohol status moderates these effects. A total of 361 emerging adults participated in the study (Mage = 23.32; SD = 2.50; 77.3% females; 66.5% students). Our results showed that exposure to positive depictions did not exert an impact on positive outcome expectations (b = -.14, confidence interval [CI] = -.44/.11), nor on negative outcome expectations (b = -.18, [CI] = -.46/.11), or attitudes (b = -.04, [CI] = -.25/.18). For negative depictions, we found an impact on attitudes (b = -.34, [CI] = -.56/-.13), but not on positive outcome expectations (b = -.04, [CI] = -.34/.27) or negative outcome expectations (b = .07; [CI] = -.22/.35). This implied that emerging adults exposed to negative alcohol depictions had more negative attitudes toward alcohol use. This effect remained robust even when taking the individuals’ frequency of alcohol use into account. These findings suggest that positive and negative depictions on social media may operate differently, thereby informing future research and health interventions

Compliance of pre-packaged food products with Nigerian food labelling guidelines : the NigeFE study

    No full text
Background: Food labelling policy has become increasingly important in public health due to the rising burden of diet-related diseases. This study examines the compliance of pre-packaged foods sold in Nigerian markets with national food labelling guidelines. Methods: A total of 883 pre-packaged foods from broad categories were purposively enlisted from selected Nigerian stores and supermarkets. Food label information was evaluated against eleven (11) requirements stipulated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and components of the International Network for Food and Obesity/Non-communicable Diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS). Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression were applied to assess compliance levels and their associated determinants. Results: The majority (>70.0%) of the pre-packaged foods complied with key labelling requirements except quantitative ingredient declaration (39.1%) as well as nutrient declaration of priority (56.5%), and non-priority (38.1%) nutrients. Overall, a mean food label compliance score of 9.19 + 1.43 out of a possible 11.0 was recorded. The inclusion of supplementary nutrition information and the declaration of non-priority nutrients in pre-packaged foods were each significantly (p < 0.01) associated with approximately a 0.50-point higher compliance score with national food labelling guidelines than pre-packaged foods lacking this information. Conclusion: High compliance with the guidelines was reported; however, the declarations of nutrient and quantitative ingredients were not sufficiently met. Prioritizing food labelling in policy formulation, alongside targeted support for food manufacturers particularly local producers will help address existing gaps across the food compliance spectrum

Känsla av sammanhang på ålderns höst : en kvalitativ studie om äldres upplevelse och hantering av ensamhet

    No full text

Computational Design of Highly Efficient Cold-Adapted Enzymes with Elevated Temperature Optima

    No full text
Cold-adapted enzymes from psychrophilic species are generally among the most highly optimized enzymes found in nature. They thus invariably outperform their orthologous mesophilic counterparts in terms of activity, below and around room temperature. It is therefore not so surprising that no successful attempts to enhance the activity of cold-adapted enzymes have been reported yet. Here, we address this problem in the case of a small lipase from an Arctic bacterium using computational design of enzyme variants and validation of the computational predictions by kinetic experiments. Remarkably, our results now show that it is possible to construct variants, with just a few mutations, that both markedly increase the catalytic rates over the entire examined temperature range and move the temperature optimum upward. The latter is shown to be associated with an inactivation phenomenon caused by an unproductive active site conformation that emerges at higher temperatures. Hence, the enzyme variants were aimed at destabilizing this inactive state, and the strategy turned out to work. Of particular interest here is the fact that our most efficient cold-adapted enzyme variant only has mutations that are 15-20 Å from the reaction center. This underscores the high degree of optimization of the native enzyme and thus suggests that mutation sites for further improvement may have to be sought at more distant amino acid positions

Assessing Structural and Optical Properties of PTQ10-Based Donor Polymers in Solution for Eco-Friendly Photovoltaics : A Multiscale Modeling Study

    No full text
Aqueous-processable materials are desired to produce and commercialize eco-friendly organic solar cells. Despite the achievement of developing aqueous soluble electron donor and acceptor polymers by incorporating polar side chains (SCs), the efficiency of the greenest devices is lower than that of state-of-the-art technology processed on halogenated solvents. To investigate the impact of different substituents on structural and optical properties in solution, we considered the backbone of the PTQ10 polymer with alkyl and alkoxy SCs. We simulated oligomer chains at low and high concentration conditions via classical molecular dynamics simulations, considering both a water/ethanol mixture and chloroform as solvents. Combining an unsupervised machine learning technique and density functional theory calculations, we validated the system size for quantum calculations and investigated the impact of SCs on the excited states. Then, following the sequential QM/MM approach, we determined the absorption spectra of each polymer. From the simulations at high concentrations, we observed the stacking of different oligomers, suggesting that polymer chains already showed aggregation in solution. This is consistent with our experimental findings, as we measured a red shift of the PTQ(8bO2) spectrum when changing from a chloroform mixture to an aqueous mixture. Finally, we investigated idealized dimer interface models, whose presence of electron-donating and electron-accepting groups results in mixed signatures in the absorption spectra, widening our understanding of polymer aggregation

    Moments of Balanced Pólya Urns

    No full text
We give bounds for (central) moments for balanced Pólya urns under very general conditions. In some cases, these bounds imply that moment convergence holds in earlier known results on asymptotic distribution. The results overlap with previously known results, but are here given more generally and with a simpler proof

    Ethics of Podcast Research

    No full text
The emergent field of podcast research is typically devoid of critical reflection on the ethical borderlands of digital lurking and personal data protection. This article draws on methodological literature, guidelines for digital media studies, legislation, and knowledge produced by the emerging podcast-ethnographic research field to expound three ethical considerations: (i) determining whether the podcast contains sensitive or personal data; (ii) distinguishing between publicly and openly available podcasts; (iii) reflecting critically on whether to use an overt or covert intervention. These ethical considerations provide a rough guide for reflexive ethics of podcast research

Performing energy : the International Energy Agency and the conflicting imaginaries of capitalist energy transition

    No full text
Amidst conflict over the indecisive and unrealised energy transition, global energy projections have taken on newfound significance. Yet there remains limited scholarship assessing how these projections relate to the political economy of capitalist energy development. This paper argues that the International Energy Agency (IEA) performs the future of energy, both assessing and influencing energy markets. The IEA's dual role—as both a modeller and active shaper of future energy pathways—has led to significant disputes. This paper examines three periods of projective conflict involving the IEA. By reviewing these disputes, the paper highlights how struggles over the performance of energy reflect the competitive, uneven and unplanned character of capitalist energy transitions, particularly during periods of structural uncertainty

Based on (2712.4 ± 14.3) x 106 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, we perform a search for the baryon- and lepton-number violating decay J/ψ → pe- + c.c. via ψ(3686) → π+π-J/ψ. No significant signal is found. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B(J/ψ → pe- + c.c) is found to be 3.1 x 10-8 at 90% confidence level. For complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/9plz-99rg</p
