Sustainable Wine Tourism from a Multi-Stakeholder Perspective: Conflict, Cooperation, and Transformation : A Case Study of Yantai, China

    No full text
Amid China’s rapid push toward cultural revitalization and rural transformation, wine tourism has emerged as a strategic bridge between local heritage and global markets. this thesis aims to critically examine the evolution of sustainable wine tourism in Yantai—a historically significant yet newly internationalized wine region. The focus is on how cooperation, conflict, and power asymmetries among diverse stakeholders shape the trajectory of wine tourism development. The research is grounded in stakeholder theory, the discourse of terroir and authenticity, and rural development literature. A qualitative case study approach was adopted, combining semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Key stakeholders were engaged to capture diverse perspectives on sustainability, heritage, and commercialization in the context of wine tourism. Findings reveal that sustainability in Yantai’s wine tourism is not a neutral or technical goal, but a contested and negotiated process. Power dynamics, competing interests, and different understandings of authenticity influence how local identity and global market pressures interact. While some actors promote cooperation and innovation, others resist forms of commercialization that threaten cultural integrity or marginalize local voices. The study highlights the potential for transformative practices rooted in place-based knowledge and inclusive governance.

Slay the Princess and the Jungian journey to find yourself

    No full text
This thesis explores the video game Slay the Princess through a Jungian lens, analysing its complex narrative, psychological themes, and interactive design. Using Jung’s concepts of complexes, collective unconsciousness, individuation, symbols, and syzygy, the study investigates how the game represents the confrontation of repressed aspects of the self through moral dilemmas and symbolic imagery. The research examines the game’s evolving and branching narrative, specifically the relationship between the player character and the Princess, and how it can be viewed as an allegory for self-reflection and transformation. By using a close reading method and analysing the observations from our playthroughs, this thesis argues that Slay the Princess reflects Jung’s theories within its narrative. The findings contribute to existing literature on Jungian psychology in gaming by demonstrating how interactive narratives can serve as mediums for psychological exploration and identity formation. This study is relevant to scholars in game studies, psychology, and literary analysis, as well as those interested in the intersection of psychology and modern interactive media, and players seeking new perspectives on the game’s narrative.

    No full text
Studien resulterade i tre övergripande teman.

Faces from the past : A study of terracotta figurines depiciting face masks

This thesis examines terracotta figurines depicting the original masks people in antiquity wore on their faces. While previous research uses the figurines as sources to find out what the original masks look like, this study aims to focus on the figurines as their own object. This thesis intends to identify what the figurines’ function and purpose is, as well as disclosing which factors, such as origin and appearance can reveal about their function and purpose. The study analyses five figurines as individual objects with the help of comparative material based on an iconographical analysis. Parallel with the iconographical method, the study uses a theoretical framework that also uses iconography together with materiality. The study shows that drawing conclusions is heavily reliant on how much documentation is available about the figurine. The study concluded that factors such as context of discovery, dating, iconography and materiality is essential to answer the thesis’ questions.

Assembly and Test of a Prototype Canted-Cosine-Theta magnet

    No full text
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN relies on an extensive system of superconductingmagnets to steer and stabilize particle beams. Due to radiation-induced degradation, the currentorbit corrector magnets require replacement with more radiation-tolerant alternatives. Thisthesis presents the assembly and testing of a prototype Niobium-Titanium (Nb-Ti) Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) corrector magnet, intended as a direct replacement for existing correctormagnets at the LHC.The magnet was assembled using Nb-Ti superconducting rope cables arranged in a CCTgeometry to optimize field uniformity and mechanical stability. The construction processincluded assembly, coil winding, and joint fabrication followed by room-temperature validationtests, in particular a continuity and a high-voltage test. The final prototype incorporated 59 out of the total 70 strands inserted into the magnet, as jointmakingchallenges prevented the inclusion of all strands. Despite this, all 59 wires and theircorresponding joints met the current and resistance thresholds during the continuity test, ensuring proper current distribution. The high-voltage test verified the integrity of the insulation, meeting the required specifications. The magnet is capable of meeting its required performanceand target magnetic field even with 11 missing wires by compensating with an increasedcurrent. If future cryogenic testing of the coil proves successful, it would represent a promising steptowards adopting the CCT design for specific applications while also demonstrating the potentialof rope cables over traditional single-wire configurations

Handwritten Stenography Recognition and the LION Dataset

    No full text
In this paper, we establish the first baseline for handwritten stenography recognition, using the novel LION dataset, and investigate the impact of including selected aspects of stenographic theory into the recognition process. We make the LION dataset publicly available with the aim of encouraging future research in handwritten stenography recognition. A state-of-the-art text recognition model is trained to establish a baseline. Stenographic domain knowledge is integrated by transforming the target sequences into representations which approximate diplomatic transcriptions, wherein each symbol in the script is represented by its own character in the transliteration, as opposed to corresponding combinations of characters from the Swedish alphabet. Four such encoding schemes are evaluated and results are further improved by integrating a pre-training scheme, based on synthetic data. The baseline model achieves an average test character error rate (CER) of 29.81% and a word error rate (WER) of 55.14%. Test error rates are reduced significantly (p< 0.01) by combining stenography-specific target sequence encodings with pre-training and fine-tuning, yielding CERs in the range of 24.5–26% and WERs of 44.8–48.2%. An analysis of selected recognition errors illustrates the challenges that the stenographic writing system poses to text recognition. This work establishes the first baseline for handwritten stenography recognition. Our proposed combination of integrating stenography-specific knowledge, in conjunction with pre-training and fine-tuning on synthetic data, yields considerable improvements. Together with our precursor study on the subject, this is the first work to apply modern handwritten text recognition to stenography. The dataset and our code are publicly available via Zenodo

Anion dependence of the redox potential of α-[Fe(mcp)L2] – a case study

    No full text
Molecular catalysts for water oxidation and other electrochemical transformations have been a focus of significant research over recent decades. Among these, α-[Fe(mcp)L2] complexes stand out as one of the most active non-heme iron-based molecular catalyst for water oxidation. This study investigates how the Fe(II)/Fe(III) redox potential of these catalysts varies with the identity of their labile ligands (L). Using cyclic voltammetry and complementary spectroscopic techniques (UV/Vis, 1H-NMR), we examined how ligands bind to the metal centre. Systematic variation of the labile ligand (L) demonstrated that the catalyst's redox potential in acetonitrile solution strongly depends on ligand identity. By introducing stoichiometric amounts of different anions to the electrolyte, the redox potential was tuned across a 1.5 V potential window. In aqueous solutions, the redox potential depended on both pH and electrolyte anion identity. These dependencies were successfully fitted to a thermodynamic model that was obtained by extending the typical proton-coupled electron transfer square scheme into a cube scheme that incorporates anion binding. The equation derived from this model provides valuable insights into the ligand-binding dynamics at the iron centre under diverse conditions
