An imam with a veil : A gender theoretical analysis of the documentary film Femimam
This thesis explores how female religious leadership in Islam is portrayed in the documentary Femimam, which follows Sherin Khankan, one of Europe’s first female imams, and her work with establishing the Mariam Mosque in Copenhagen. Through a qualitative content analysis of selected verbal and visual scenes, the study examines how Khankan’s leadership is both supported and resisted, and how gender shapes the expression and reception of religious authority. It asks how support and opposition toward her role are portrayed, and how gender is constructed and expressed in the film, interpreted through the lens of gender theory. The analysis draws on Yvonne Hirdman’s gender system, West and Zimmerman’s concept of doing gender, and Raewyn Connell’s theory of gender order, using an abductive approach that combines inductive and deductive reasoning. The results show that Islam is interpreted in multiple and sometimes opposing ways to justify or challenge female leadership, highlighting how media can illuminate ongoing negotiations around gender, power, and religious legitimacy
Wastewater treatment is crucial to reduce negative impacts on human health and the environment. Therefore, multiple nutrients, pathogens and other micropollutants are treated in the Swedish wastewater treatment plants. Nitrogen is one of the nutrients that is removed since excessive discharges can lead to eutrophication and oxygen depletion in receiving waters. Kungsängsverket, Uppsala’s biggest wastewater treatment plant, is facing stricter requirements due to population growth, The European Union’s revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and a new permit with stricter removal requirements. To meet these challenges the plant is undergoing an upgrade. This study explored the possibility of increasing the nitrogen removal in an activated sludge process by using external carbon dosing or by modifying the process configuration. Three different process designs were evaluated: step feed design (the current configuration), step feed with post-denitrification and combined pre- and post-denitrification. Additionally, various control strategies for carbon dosing and nitrate recirculation flow were tested: constant, flow based, and PI-control. The process configurations and control strategies were evaluated based on operating cost and climate impact. The evaluation was conducted using process modelling, an effective method increasingly used in the Swedish wastewater sector. The method can be used to evaluate different process configurations, predict future scenarios and optimize processes, without changing the physical plant. The result from the study showed that all evaluated configurations can reach the desired effluent concentration of nitrate (4,8 mg NO3/l). The combined pre- and post-denitrification process was shown to provide the lowest operating cost and climate impact. For this configuration, PI-control of both carbon dosing and nitrate recirculation flow resulted in the lowest methanol consumption
How have public healthcare providers in Sweden conformed to the European Union's Web Accessibility Directive regarding accessibility statements on their websites?
The Web Accessibility Directive (WAD) is part of the European Union's work for digital inclusion. The WAD obligates that public sector bodies' websites meet accessibility standards and provide an accessibility statement on the website informing about inaccessible content, and a feedback mechanism for reporting accessibility issues or requesting inaccessible content in an accessible format. The objective of this study was to evaluate how healthcare providers in Sweden have applied accessibility statements on their websites as regulated by law. A descriptive study using a mixed methods approach was conducted, by quantitative descriptive data analysis of the healthcare providers' accessibility statements compliance to requirements and qualitative data analysis of the written information provided in the accessibility statement. All but one of the 37 evaluated healthcare providers published an accessibility statement. None of the healthcare providers fully met the requirements for accessibility statements, and no one complied with the intention of the law, i.e. to provide accessible health information and eHealth services. There was no or minor progress between the first and the latest published accessibility statement. The possibility to declare no or partial compliance with the law, or claim disproportionate burden, and the lack of enforcement procedures, risk producing symbolic actions e.g., publishing accessibility statements without intention to abide by the law. We suggest that the directives for accessibility statements should be advanced regarding comprehensiveness, understandability, and usefulness. It is suggested that the assessment protocol developed for this study may be used for future evaluations of accessibility statements

Guaranteeing Desirable Futures : What Schools Offer to Prospective Students When in Mutual Competition
In this article we argue that organizational research on competition has left the relation between organizations and consumers largely unaddressed. While marketing scholars have explored how individual organizations try to manipulate the relation with specific groups of consumers, less has been said about how competing organizations collectively form and influence their relation with consumers. This is especially the case in contexts of public services provision, such as education. To explore this relation, we examine how upper secondary schools in a quasi-market fictionalize their offerings to influence students’ desire. By analyzing 117 school descriptions from Stockholm’s (Sweden) upper secondary school market, we identify four ideal types of fictionalized offerings: The Doorman, The Role Model, The Butler, and The Gardener. These fictionalizations perpetuate two consumer fictions, namely desirable futures and identity realization. Through these fictions, prospective students are invited to realize their supposedly incomplete selves. Our research contributes to the organizational study of competition by showing that schools respond to competition by reinforcing a consumption rationality, potentially shaping students’ desire for certain educational qualities. Additionally, we contribute to critical educational research by questioning the assumption that competition fosters innovation
Electrifying a Commercial Vehicle Fleet : A case study of Omexom Stockholm Distribution Substation
This thesis supports the transition to a fossil-free vehicle fleet at Omexom StockholmDistribution Substation. By the end of 2025, the business unit (BU) has set two internal targets:50% of its vehicles should be battery electric (BEVs), and at least 85% of diesel consumptionshould be replaced with the renewable fuel HVO100. A case study approach was applied, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Thequantitative part involved mapping the current vehicle fleet and comparing costs for differentvehicle alternatives. The qualitative part was based on interviews, field observations, andinformal conversations with employees to identify practical challenges and understand howemployees perceive and respond to the transition. The results show that the fleet is currently dominated by diesel vehicles, and that 42 out of 63vehicles are scheduled to be replaced in 2025 as their lease contracts expire. If 23 of these arereplaced with BEVs, the BU can meet its target of a 50% electric fleet by the end of 2025. The cost comparison shows that among the electric vehicle alternatives, passenger cars aregenerally the cheapest option for the company, particularly when they can be charged at theworkplace. For light commercial vehicles (LCVs), diesel models are currently more affordablethan electric models, and HVO100 is slightly more expensive than diesel. In addition to the costand replacement considerations, the qualitative findings identified several organisationalchallenges, including uncertainty around vehicle selection, limited experience with BEVs,reluctance to change routines, and a need for clearer communication. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the BU’s climate targets are achievable, but theoutcome will depend on how the transition is planned and supported in practice.Tek nisk-naturvetensk apliga fak ulteten, Upps ala universitet. From Patterns to Playbooks : Identifying offensive and defensive team playing styles from possession chains with machine learning and its possible practical applications in management of football teams
Analyzing playing styles is an important task in many parts of football, from performance evaluation to scouting of both opponents and potential player signings. Manual analysis can be time-consuming and subjective and current data-driven approaches face a number of challenges including 1) a lack of established definitions for playing styles 2) under exploration of defensive playing styles, 3) mainly being based on event data, with few studies using tracking data (especially for defence), 4) a lack of granularity, with many studies analysing playing styles on aggregated match or season level statistics and 5) a lack of studies combining methodological and applicational perspectives. The study aims to bridge this gap by using unsupervised machine learning to cluster possession chains, using both tracking and event data, enabling both a more granular analysis and the creation of novel features for both offensive and defensive play. The study was performed on a dataset obtained from Twelve Football, containing both event and tracking data from the 2022 season of Swedish first division Allsvenskan. The dataset is split in possession sequences and 13 features for offensive play and 12 for defensive play are generated. The features are scaled and then clustered using K-Means clustering. In total 6 offensive and 6 defensive clusters were found, and 4 different applications for football teams were proposed. The method, results and applications were discussed and presented to both football researchers and club professionals who showed great interest in the methodology and results for application in football analytics. In conclusion, applying unsupervised machine learning methods like K-Means clustering on possession chains with tracking and event data can unravel interesting insights of the playing styles adopted by teams in both offense and defence. By doing this at the possession level, both more detailed insights and potential new applications in scouting and performance evaluation can be enabled due to the ability to link offensive and defensive playing styles together with specific player or team statistics from the event and tracking data
Final analysis of the ZOE-LTFU trial to 11 years post-vaccination : efficacy of the adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine against herpes zoster and related complications
Background Herpes zoster (HZ) vaccines should provide durable protection against HZ and HZ-related complications. We report the final analysis of a long-term follow-up (LTFU) study (ZOE-LTFU) including 11 years of follow-up after primary vaccination with recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV). Methods ZOE-LTFU (NCT02723773) was an open-label, phase 3b study following participants of two phase 3 trials, ZOE-50 and ZOE-70. ZOE-LTFU started approximately 5 years post-vaccination in ZOE-50/70 and participants were followed for 6 years. The primary objective was to assess vaccine efficacy (VE) against HZ during ZOE-LTFU. Secondary objectives included VE against HZ from 1 month post-dose 2 in ZOE-50/70 until end of ZOE-LTFU, VE against post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) and non-PHN complications, immunogenicity, and long-term safety. The VE calculation used a historical control constructed with ZOE-50/70 placebo data. Findings VE was assessed in the modified total vaccinated cohort (n = 7273 [mean age 67.3 years at first vaccination]). During ZOE-LTFU, VE was 79.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 73.7, 84.6) and 73.2% (95% CI: 62.9, 80.9) against HZ in participants >= 50 and >= 70 years at first vaccination, respectively, and was 87.5% (95% CI: 64.8, 96.8) against PHN and 91.7% (95% CI: 43.7, 99.8) against other HZ-related complications in participants >= 50 years. From 1 month post-dose 2 in ZOE-50/70 to the end of ZOE-LTFU, VE against HZ was 87.7% (95% CI: 84.9, 90.1) in participants >= 50 years and sustained at 82.0% (95% CI: 63.0, 92.2) in the eleventh year post-vaccination. Humoural and cell-mediated immune responses plateaued at over 5-fold and similar to 7-fold, respectively, above pre-vaccination levels in ZOE-50/70. No RZV-related serious adverse events occurred. Interpretation Efficacy of RZV against HZ and associated complications remained high through 11 years postvaccination, indicating sustained clinical benefit
Frontal systems are key features of mid-latitude weather, playing a central role in cyclone formation, extreme weather events, and large-scale atmospheric phenomena. Understanding their emergence and evolution (known as frontogenesis) is a major challenge in meteorology. Although the quasi-geostrophic(QG) model is often considered too simplified for this task, this study explores its potential to simulate realistic frontal development when extended with additional physical features. A three-dimensional QGmodel was developed, including nonlinear advection, variable Coriolis force (β-effect), vertical stratification, and a damping mechanism. The model was used in an idealized baroclinic environment to simulate frontogenesis under controlled conditions. The results show that the extended QG model can reproduce key aspects of frontal evolution, including the amplification of temperature gradients, the development of vorticity, and the formation of cyclone-like structures. Simulations revealed both Norwegian and Shapiro–Keyser type cyclones, with structures and timing comparable to observed real-world cases. These findings suggest that, despite its limitations, the QG model remains a valuable and computationally efficient tool for studying large-scale frontal processes, offering useful insights into the dynamics of mid-latitude weather systems
