Introduction: The prevalence of type 2-diabetes is increasing worldwide and self-management is an important part of the treatment. The disexease can cause several severe complications. Through self-management, diabetes-related complications can be prevented or delayed. Aim: To describe experiences of self-management in people with type 2-diabetes. Method: Qualitative literature review based on ten original articles. The articles were quality assessed using the SBU’s template for qualitative studies. The included articles were reviewed and categories produced according to Popenoe’s model of analysis. Results: Three categories where identified; (i) practical aspects in self-management, (ii) social aspects and support in self-management, (iii) psychological and emotional aspects in self-management. The category practical aspects in self-management focused on facilities and barriers for diet and exercise habits. The category social aspects and support in self-management included experiences of need for support and information from family and healthcare. It also included the influence of social life on self-management. The psychological and emotional aspects in self-management category focused on the emotional burden of the disease and how attitudes towards the disease affect self-management. Conclusion: Many experienced difficulties in implementing lifestyle changes but some found that it eventually became part of the daily routine. A barrier to lifestyle changes was lack of motivation. Support and information from family and healthcare were considered important resources for self-management. Some did not consider type 2-diabetes to be a serious disease and thus had no motivation to perform self-management. Many experienced an emotional burden from the disease, which could be an obstacle to self-management.
Generation 1.5 of female Russian and Ukrainian migrants in Israel in the times of the Russia-Ukraine War: Narratives regarding the impact of war
Migrants’ experiences and identities have been investigated through various contexts such as integration, transnationalism, and affect. This thesis using these concepts to examine the impacts of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War on the identity, personal lived experience, and views of generation 1.5 female Russian and Ukrainian migrants in Israel. The dataset includes 14 semi-structured interviews conducted in September 2024, analysed using thematic coding with an inductive-deductive approach. The participants’ accounts reveal that they maintain a dominant Israeli identity with hybrid intersectional components and demonstrate diverse patterns of war impacts. A strengthened Ukrainian identity reported by all Ukraine-born participants to varied extents, often transforming previous ‘Russian’ self-identification, whereas the Russian identity of the Russia-born participants remained unchanged. Beyond such identity patterns, while participants demonstrated intra-group differences, no significant distinction between Russian and Ukrainian subgroups emerged. Additional impacts included gestures of active support for Ukraine, restricted ability to visit countries of origin, tensions in personal relationships, fears of potential future outcomes, and undermined perceptions of stability – the latter intertwining with impacts of the ongoing October 7th War. The results suggest that these additional reported impacts are linked to transnational affect. The participants’ successful integration into Israeli society, coupled with their negative perceptions of their countries of origin, appears to have fostered a sense of detachment from their sending countries, and consequently, most of them reported to experience the Russia-Ukraine War as unsettling yet relatively distant, with limited significant to their daily lives

Gaza, Israel, and Just War Theory
This thesis critically examines Per Bauhn's defense of Israel's military actions in Gaza, as presented in his article "Just war, human shields, and the 2023–2024 Gaza War". Using the framework of just war theory, the study analyzes Bauhn's arguments regarding Israel's jus ad bellum and jus in bello claims. The analysis reveals significant empirical and logical weaknesses in Bauhn’s defense, particularly regarding Israel’s justification for war, adherence to principles of proportionality and distinction, and the portrayal of Hamas as an existential threat. By evaluating his arguments, the study concludes that Bauhn's article fails to demonstrate the moral legitimacy of Israel's actions in Gaza under just war theory
Students' Democratic Competence : Opportunities and Limits for an Open Classroom Climate
In democracy and school research, many scholars have conducted quantitative studies and investigated which of the teachers’ teaching methods have positive effects on students’ democratic competence. Several of the studies demonstrate a positive correlation between an open classroom and students’ democratic competence. However, few researchers have conducted qualitative studies and investigated how the school context has effects on students’ democratic competence. This study investigates what opportunities and limits students think and experience for an open classroom climate in the Swedish, upper secondary school. This thesis aims to contribute new knowledge about how the school can promote and develop students’ democratic competence. To answer the research question, a combination of the two qualitative, research methods, focus groups and individual interviews are used. The results show that there are five mechanisms; knowledge, interest, trust, personality, and norms that can explain the opportunities and limits students think and experience for an open classroom in Swedish, upper secondary school. However, the students think and experience these mechanisms to varying degrees in different school contexts and class compositions. These findings contribute new knowledge about what similar or different opportunities and limits students may experience for an open classroom climate by identifying and analyzing which mechanisms can explain why an open classroom climate occurs

From Ideal to Real Types : An empirical analysis of contrasting models of democratic self-defence in Europe
This study examines the empirical application of democratic self-defence models in Europe by transforming theoretical ideal types into real types. The research focuses on three contrasting models: militant democracy, the procedural model and the social model, each presenting different approaches to counteract antidemocratic forces. Using operational indicators derived from the models’ core tenets, the study classifies nine European democracies in accordance with the democratic self-defence models. The findings reveal that while Spain exemplifies pure militant democracy, most countries exhibit characteristics of semi-militant democracies. Conversely, Denmark and Sweden emerge as distinct representatives of the social model while Finland shows a hybrid version of militant democracy and the social model. An example of the procedural model was not found in this study. This work offers a foundation for future research into the practical implications of democratic self-defence and hybrid approaches, contributing to the ongoing discourse on safeguarding democracy in contemporary politics
On the Appeal of Reality TV
This paper examines the appeal of reality TV. Reality TV as a genre is widely popular, yet has partly a negative reputation, as such this paper aids to provide insight to the appealing factors of the genre. As there is no comprehensive work on reality TV in aesthetics, I draw on documentary, serial fiction and games in order to explain the appeal of the genre. It is shown that reality TV, like documentary, has the function of being a reliable account of something that occurred. People participate in shows as themselves, but unlike documentary, the premises for reality TV are entirely fabricated. Thus, I turn to serial fiction, which further shows that reality TV uses a question-and-answer dynamic to keep viewers engaged, as well as repeated instances that are a source of enjoyment. Lastly, looking at games explains the game-like structure of reality TV premises, demonstrating that the enjoyment of reality TV has significant similarities to the reasons we enjoy watching sports games. The ambiguous relationship to reality and make-believe is addressed, as it is central to the genre
Endovascular therapy for iatrogenic occlusion of the popliteal artery after complex total knee arthroplasty : A case report
Iatrogenic arterial injury is an infrequent but limb-threatening complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Open surgical reconstruction may not always be feasible or optimal, particularly in patients who have recently just undergone complex TKA procedures. In this report, we describe the treatment of a patient who developed popliteal artery occlusion following a complex TKA procedure performed the previous day. Although endovascular advancement allows comprehensive endovascular treatment of acute limb ischemia, their application in the context of iatrogenic arterial injury after TKA is limited, with only a few cases documented. This case is notable due to the presence of both penetrating trauma to the popliteal artery and subsequent thrombosis of the artery. These complications were successfully managed entirely through endovascular therapy, employing AngioJet rheolytic thrombolysis and the implantation of a covered stent. This case adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of endovascular techniques for managing this rare and complex complication of TKA. (J Vasc Surg Cases Innov Tech 2025;11:101695.
