On the syntax of complex utterances
Get PDFLa sintaxis del período presenta una mayor complejidad que la sintaxis oracional, pues no siempre hay correspondencia entre estructura formal y estructura semántico-pragmática. Es lo que denominamos anisomorfismo estructural o anisomorfismo de estructuras. Esta falta de correspondencia la hallaremos también en construcciones de mayor complejidad, como la sintaxis del microdiscurso.The syntax of compound utterances is more complex than sentence syntax, since there is not necessarily a correspondence between its formal structure and its semantic and pragmatic structure. Portraying refugees in British print media: the case of NATO airstrikes on Yugoslavia
Get PDFThis paper is based on a critical discourse analysis (CDA) of three British dailies (the Guardian, the Independent and the Times) on NATO air strikes on Yugoslavia. The paper briefly introduces van Dijk’s notions of microstructures and macrostructures of newspaper articles and discusses some aspects of CDA (van Dijk, Fairclough), especially its approach of combining linguistic analysis with intertextual analysis. It then focuses on the issues of dominance and politics. The paper starts from the assumption that the concepts of dominance, power and politics are linked to the role of language that shapes or legitimates particular views, which is also the case in the corpus we analyzed. Politicians always use media in wartime to persuade citizens in a justness of war, leading consumers of news to uncritically accept that the ‘news’ presented to them is true. The paper offers examples from the three dailies and discusses them based on the theoretical approach taken. It briefly touches upon macrostructures and focuses on the elements on the micro level (verbs, nouns, noun phrases and adjectives) that are important for the interpretation of the analyzed article
Principales patrones metonímicos en las extensiones semánticas de los términos cromáticos en español
Get PDFThe present article analyzes the principal metonymic projections that participate in polysemy of some basic color terms in Spanish. The main aim is to find out what are the different roles of color as source domain and what are the target domains which it gives access to. Firstly, principal characteristics and key aspects of conceptual metonymy are presented. Next, the different metonymic projections which are responsible of semantic extension of color terms are described.El presente artículo analiza los principales patrones metonímicos que intervienen en la extensión semántica polisémica de algunos términos cromáticos básicos en español. El objetivo es averiguar cuáles son los roles más destacados del color como vehículo y cuáles son los dominios meta a los cuales da acceso en esta lengua. En primer lugar, se exponen las características básicas de la metonimia conceptual y los aspectos clave de la misma que afectan al análisis. A continuación, se describen las diferentes proyecciones metonímicas responsables de la extensión semántica de los términos cromáticos estudiados
El uso de la información silábica y contrastiva de L1-L2map en la enseñanza de la pronunciación del español
Get PDFIn the acquisition of a second language (L2) sound system, learners must not only acquire the new sounds and sound contrasts of the L2, but they must also internalize the distributional patterns and syllabic constraints active in the L2. This article discusses some linguistic and contrastive aspects that can influence the acquisition of Spanish L2 syllable structure and presents the new functions of L1-L2map, a multilingual database that allows comparing the syllable structure of languages. In the course of the article the main syllable restrictions active in Spanish will be reviewed and the L1-L2map database will be used to highlight those pronunciation areas that are likely to be problematic for language learners depending on their particular native language (L1s). Additionally, some of the most frequent strategies and modifications in the learner's interlanguage when encountering new syllable types will be briefly sketched.En la adquisición del sistema fónico de una segunda lengua (L2) al aprendiz no le basta con familiarizarse con los nuevos sonidos nuevos de la L2, sino que debe interiorizar las pautas distribucionales de los segmentos y las restricciones silábicas propias de la L2. El objetivo de este trabajo es, por un lado, reflexionar sobre los factores lingüísticos y contrastivos que pueden influir en la adquisición de las restricciones silábicas del español como lengua extranjera y, por otro lado, presentar las nuevas funciones de la base de datos multilingüe L1-L2map que permiten, precisamente, realizar análisis contrastivos de la estructura silábica de una lengua nativa (L1) y una L2. A lo largo del artículo se revisarán las principales restricciones silábicas activas en español y, a partir del uso de L1-L2map, se discutirán aquellas áreas que, posiblemente, resultarán más problemáticas a los aprendices de esta lengua en función de su L1. Asimismo, se repasarán algunas de las estrategias y modificaciones más frecuentes en la interlengua de los aprendices al enfrentarse a nuevos tipos silábicos

The confrontation went beyond the academic faculty, confronting the political, clerical and academic powers and evidenced the long tradition of educational control of the Church.Este artículo revisará, siguiendo las publicaciones de los diarios El Espectador y El colombiano, el conflicto que se dio entre la Universidad de Antioquia y la Iglesia Antioqueña debido a la aprobación de la tesis escrita por Fernando González Ochoa titulada El derecho a no obedecer.
