El impacto de la romanización augustea en la cuenca del Duero
Get PDFDespite the critical importance of the reign of Augustus for this region, because he was who subjected territories just north of the Douro, it is difficult to balance the impact of Romanization under his reign. Basically, the information is made up of three types of data: the literary sources relating to the War of Augusto against Cantabrians and Asturians; archaeological sources documenting mainly the presence of Roman military camps or the initial stages of urban development whose interpretation still poses numerous problems; and finally very few epigraphic sources attesting the administrative reorganization of the territory (termini augustales, termini pratorum), or specific aspects of the indigenous communities that are difficult to relate to the general events of the empire or of the Augustus’ government in the Iberian peninsula.A pesar de la decisiva importancia del reinado de Augusto, ya que fue él precisamente quien sometió los territorios situados al norte del Duero, es difícil hacer un balance del impacto de la romanización bajo su reinado. Básicamente, dicha información está constituida por tres clases de datos: las fuentes literarias relativas a la guerra de Augusto contra los astures y los cántabros; las fuentes arqueológicas que documentan, principalmente, la presencia de campamentos militares romanos o los momentos iniciales de un desarrollo urbano cuya interpretación sigue planteando numerosos problemas; y, finalmente, unas muy escasas fuentes epigráficas que atestiguan la reorganización administrativa del territorio (termini augustales, termini pratorum, etc.), o bien aspectos concretos de las comunidades indígenas que son difíciles de relacionar con los acontecimientos generales del Imperio o del gobierno de Augusto en la península Ibérica

Get PDFEste articulo examina cómo Melvyn Bragg, periodista británico, locutor y escritor, retrata las consecuencias de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en la familia y la comunidad en The Soldier’s Return (1999) y Son of War (2001). Se afirma que el estilo narrativo de Bragg se aproxima a lo que Michael Rothberg (2000) denomina como realismo traumático. La mezcla de lo ordinario y lo doméstico con lo excepcional logra evocar matices traumáticos subyacentes así como su veracidad histórica. Por lo tanto, se concluye que a través de la tensión entre una ingenuidad externa y expresiones de ansiedad, el discurso post conmemorativo de Bragg logra divulgar una historia que hasta el momento se ha mantenido en el ámbito familiar de la posguerra.This paper examines how Melvyn Bragg, British journalist, broadcaster and writer, portrays the aftermath of World War Two on family and community in The Soldier’s Return (1999) and Son of War (2001). I contend that Bragg’s apparently simplistic and minimalist style approximates what Michael Rothberg (2000) terms as traumatic realism. By blending the ordinary and the domestic with the extraordinary, he manages to evoke a meaningful absence and traumatic undertones at the same time as resonating with historical ‘truth’. Thus, I conclude that through the tension between an outer naivety and underlying disturbances, Bragg’s post-memorial discourse achieves a public disclosure which hitherto remained, primarily, in the intimate realm of postwar family life
Contra-narrativas de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el cine griego
Get PDFThis article examines three Greek films of the mid-1960s which countered the heroic narrative of World War II: Manousakis’s Betrayal, the story of the love affair between a German officer and a Greek Jewish girl; Kyrou’s The Blockade, dramatizing the resistance and the collaboration under the German occupation; and Glykofrydis’s With a Sparkle in the Eyes, depicting a father’s heartbreaking dilemma. The article explicates the war memories that the films proposed, the artistic and ideological filters through which these memories took shape, and the responses of Greek reviewers. Representing World War II in Greek cinema, the article shows, proved a parlous undertaking as filmmakers and critics were simultaneously confronted with national traumas and sensitive political and diplomatic subjects.Este artículo examina tres películas griegas de mediados de los años 1960 que desmontaban la narrativa heroica de la Segunda Guerra Mundial: Betrayal de Manousaki, la historia de amor entre un oficial alemán y una judía griega; The Blockade de Kyrou, que dramatiza la resistencia y la colaboración bajo la ocupación alemana; y With a Sparkle in the Eyes de Glykonfrydis, que trata del desgarrador dilema de un padre. Este artículo explica las memorias de la guerra que las películas proponen, los filtros artísticos e ideológicos a través de los cuales toman forma estas memorias, y la recepción de los críticos griegos. Femme pécheresse: vices féminins dans "Le Mesnagier de Paris" (1393)
Get PDFDuring the Middle Ages there was a widespread belief that woman is the daughter of Eve. Women are thus the archetypal sinner. For this reason, the female becomes the focus in many books whose objective is to save society of feminine dangers. A new genre appears: women’s conduct books.The strength of these books lies in the author: they are not members of religious orders, but laymen. From all these conduct books, we choose the example of the fourteenth-century household book Le Mesnagier de Paris, written by an old man for his teenage wife. The author’s aim is to educate his wife to become a perfect wife in medieval culture. Through the study of this book—in particular the article dedicated to female vice—we extend our knowledge of the negative picture of women during the Middle Ages.Durante la Edad Media existe un pensamiento generalizado para el que la mujer es hija de Eva. Por lo tanto, aparece como la pecadora por excelencia, convirtiéndose así en el blanco de numerosas obras literarias cuyo objetivo es proteger a toda la sociedad de los peligros que atrae. Nace así la corriente pedagógica. Su originalidad reside en que los autores ya no son religiosos, sino laicos. Le Mesnagier de Paris, un tratado donde un viejo burgués parisino se dirige a su joven esposa para prodigarle todo tipo de consejos con el fin de que se convierta en una esposa ejemplar para la sociedad burguesa, se inscribe en ella. El estudio de esta obra, y en concreto del artículo dedicado a los vicios femeninos, nos permite ahondar en el conocimiento de la imagen negativa de la mujer que se transmitía en esta época.Pendant la période médiévale il existe une pensée dominante considère la femme comme fille d’Ève. Pecheresse donc par excellence, elle devient la cible de nombre d’ouvrages qui cherchent à épargner toute la société des tourments dont on la soupçonne : il s’agit du courant didactique. Son aspect original est que les auteurs ne sont plus des religieux mais des laïcs. Parmi ces textes il en est un fort révélateur : Le Mesnagier de Paris. L’auteur est un vieux bourgeois parisien qui s’adresse à sa jeune épouse et lui prodigue des conseils pour qu’elle devienne l’épouse exemplaire aux yeux du monde. L’étude de ce texte pédagogique, et tout particulièrement de la partie consacrée aux vices féminins, nous permet d’approfondir nos connaissances sur l’image négative de la femme que l’on projetait à cette époque-là
Life and literature in Abdekfattah Kilito’s narratives
Get PDFL’écrivain marocain Abdelfettah Kilito est sans aucun doute l’un des écrivains dont les récits illustrent le plus, au Maghreb, les rapports complexes et énigmatiques que la littérature entretient avec la vie. Mettant souvent en scène des personnages qui vivent dans la compagnie des livres, ses récits ne cessent de montrer de quelle manière la littérature agit sur les hommes et les transforment. Cependant, au-delà de cette puissance métamorphosante de la littérature qu’il cherche à thématiser, à travers des personnages fictifs, c’est la situation de l’écrivain lui-même, qui ne peut parler de la vie qu’en habitant les livres, que Kilito s’évertue à représenter dans ses récits.EL escritor marroquí Abdelfettah Kilito es sin duda uno de los escritores cuyos relatos ilustran más, en el Magreb, la relación compleja y enigmática que la literatura tiene con la vida. Poniendo, a menudo, en escena a personajes que viven en compañía de los libros, sus relatos no dejan de mostrar cómo la literatura afecta a los hombres y transfórmalos. Sin embargo, más allá de este poder metamorfosis de la literatura que trata de tematizar, a través de personajes de ficción, ésta es la situación del propio escritor, que no puede hablar de la vida sin estar viviendo dentro de los libros y reciclando sus conocimientos, que Kilito se esfuerza por representar en sus relatos.The Moroccan writer Abdelfettah Kilito is undoubtedly an author from the Maghreb whose narratives best illustrate the complex and enigmatic relationship between literature and life. Often portraying characters living in the company of books, his narratives constantly show how literature influences and transforms individuals. However, beyond this metamorphic power of literature which he seeks to thematize through fictional characters, the writer himself is immersed in this experience. He can speak of life only by inhabiting the books and recycling the knowledge that Kilito strives to represent in his narratives
Estrategias para construir humor. Las figuras retóricas en relatos humorísticos de niños de 8 y 12 años
Get PDFRhetorical figures have been considered since Ancient times as essential resources for the achievement of verbal humor. In this work, we aim to verify how children aged 8 and 12 use rhetorical figures to achieve humorous effects in motivated narratives. To this end, seven recurring rhetorical mechanisms have been chosen to create verbal mood. Moreover, these are among the characteristic expressive resources of schoolchildren between the ages under study. They are: repetition, comparison, hyperbole, opposition, onomatopoeia, metaphor and puns. Through the quantitative and qualitative analysis of occurrences we wish to study the details of its use in terms of variability, common tendencies, progression in the way of expressing humor through the resource as well as the proximity to the canonical uses of the corresponding figure.Las figuras retóricas han sido consideradas desde la Antigüedad como recursos esenciales para la consecución del humor verbal. En este trabajo nos proponemos comprobar cómo utilizan niños y niñas de 8 y 12 años las figuras retóricas para conseguir efectos humorísticos en narraciones motivadas. Para ello se han escogido siete mecanismos retóricos recurrentes para crear humor verbal que, además, se encuentran entre los recursos expresivos propios de escolares entre las edades objeto de estudio. Son los siguientes: repetición, comparación, hipérbole, oposición, onomatopeya, metáfora y juegos de palabras. Mediante el análisis cuantitativo y cualitativo de las ocurrencias se quieren estudiar los detalles de su uso en término de variabilidad, tendencias comunes, progresión en la forma de expresar el humor mediante el recurso, así como la proximidad con los usos canónicos de la figura correspondiente
