Antimicrobial Potential of Terpene Isolates of Cannabis sativa against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius: A Novel Approach to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance in Veterinary Medicine<b>: raw data</b>
Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a harmful bacterium that affects dogs, causing various infections like canine pyoderma, otitis externa, and systemic issues in the urinary, respiratory, and reproductive systems. Canine pyoderma, an infection of a dog's skin and hair follicles, is a leading reason for antibiotic prescriptions in dogs. The excessive prescription of antibiotics has resulted in a rise in multidrug-resistant S. pseudintermedius and the emergence of methicillin-resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) which pose significant challenges in treating infections, highlighting the need for alternative therapeutic strategies. Given the rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and limited antibiotic options, the potential of plant-derived terpenes as novel antimicrobial agents is being explored. Here we investigated the antimicrobial efficacy of eight terpenes commonly found in Cannabis sativa against clinical isolates of S. pseudintermedius. The study evaluates the antibacterial and bactericidal activities of these terpenes, their effects on bacterial ultrastructure, and time-kill kinetics. Among the terpenes tested, nerolidol emerged as particularly effective, demonstrating potent antibacterial activity and low cytotoxicity, with its efficacy influenced by its hydrophobicity and hydroxyl group positioning. Our findings contribute to understanding the antibacterial action of Cannabis terpenes, underscoring their potential as innovative solutions in veterinary medicine for combating drug-resistant pathogens such as S. pseudintermedius.</p
Association of Perinatal Factors and Family Sociodemographic Characteristics With Cardiometabolic Health in Pre-Adolescence: Cross-Sectional Results From Healthy Growth Study
Aim: Study the influence of a variety of perinatal factors on the presence of metabolic syndrome and its parameters in prepubertal age, considering socio-demographic factors, sex, Tanner stage and weight status of the preadolescent. Methods: Data collected from the cross-sectional Healthy Growth Study (2007) in students from four prefectures of Greece and their families. Cardiometabolic risk factors (waist circumference, blood pressure and blood indices) and perinatal data (from parents and health records) were collected. Single and a multiple logistic regression performed to assess the associations with cardiometabolic risk in preadolescence. Dependent variables included waist circumference, blood glucose, HDL-C, TG, blood pressure and metabolic syndrome presence, while independent variables encompassed perinatal factors categorised as pre-pregnancy, during and post-pregnancy. Results: 2666 pre-adolescents (mean age 11.2 year) participated in the study. After adjustment for parental educational level, family income, sex, Tanner stage and weight category, maternal pre-pregnancy weight was positively associated with high waist circumference (OR, 95% CI 1.02 (1.00–1.04)), low HDL-C levels (OR, 95% CI 1.01 (1.00–1.03)) and metabolic syndrome (OR, 95% CI 1.02 (1.00–1.05)). Timing of solid foods' introduction was positively associated with high waist circumference (OR, 95% CI 1.09 (1.01–1.08)), gestational age with high glucose levels (OR, 95% CI 1.12 (1.04–1.19)), smoking (OR, 95% CI 1.07 (1.00–1.14)) and alcohol consumption (OR, 95% CI 2.35 (1.05–5.27)) during the first trimester of breastfeeding with high glucose levels and low HDL-C levels, respectively. Number of previous miscarriages was positively associated with low HDL-C levels (OR, 95% CI 1.28 (1.04–1.57)). Gestational age was negatively associated with high waist circumference (OR, 95% CI 0.87 (0.80–0.95)) and iron supplementation in the third pregnancy trimester negatively association with high TG levels (OR, 95% CI 0.34 (0.12–0.91)). Conclusions: Maternal weight, perinatal behaviours, infant feeding and miscarriages influence pre-pubertal cardiometabolic health, independent of sociodemographics, sex, Tanner stage and weight.</p

Analysing the Impact of Password Length and Complexity on the Effectiveness of Brute Force Attacks
This study investigates the critical role of password length and complexity in mitigating the effectiveness of brute force attacks, a prevalent method used by attackers to gain unauthorized access to systems. Passwords are the first line of defense in digital security, and their strength directly affects the time and resources required for a brute-force attack to be successful. The research explores the relationship between various password characteristics such as length, the inclusion of alphanumeric characters, special symbols, and case sensitivity and the resistance they provide against automated cracking attempts. Through a combination of theoretical analysis and practical simulation, the study demonstrates how even a small increase in password length can lead to exponential growth in the number of possible combinations, significantly delaying potential breaches.</p

A Systematic Review to Move Australian Disability Employment Forward for Autistic People
The current Disability Employment Service (DES) model serving autistic job seekers in Australia will end in the year 2023. The Australian Government is exploring new options for a replacement model. Aiding these efforts a systematic review of the literature examined the evidence base of effective assisted employment supports for autistic people in Australia. Using PRISMA guidelines, of 1839 search results, eight papers met inclusion criteria concerning: (a) autistic individuals, (b) assisted employment in Australia, (c) enablers to employment gain or retention, and (d) original evidence. All effective activities require providers to understand autism and the needs of autistic adults. We suggest the first steps in enhancing DES include educating providers and their staff in autism and hiring autistic employment consultants.</p
A Qualitative Exploration of the Experiences of Disclosing Non-Monogamy
Non-monogamy refers to a set of relationship identities and structures that go against societal norms and expectations of "typical" relationships (i.e., monogamous heteronormative dyadic relationships). As such, non-monogamous individuals often conceal this identity and then need to engage in continuous decision-making processes regarding when and how to disclose, due in part to the structural barriers, stigma, and discrimination faced by this population. This study sought to explore the experiences of the disclosure of consensual (or ethical) non-monogamy and the factors impacting on the decision to disclose across a range of environments. Data on lived experiences were explored by conducting qualitative semi-structured interviews with 32 non-monogamous adults living in Australia. Based on grounded theory, four key themes were identified during the analysis of the data: (1) decisions around how and when to disclosure are complex, (2) responses to disclosure are typically negative, (3) structural barriers typically prevent disclosure, and (4) unless specifically trained, healthcare providers are typically uninformed about non-monogamy. These findings are discussed in relation to providing a base model of disclosure for future research to build upon and to enhance understanding of systemic and healthcare-related issues faced by this population. This research adds to the current understanding of factors impacting disclosure, with possible clinical implications and suggestions for future research discussed.</p
The Transition From Family Home to Alternative Living Arrangements: Experiences of Adults With Intellectual Disabilities and Their Family Members
Background: It is well documented that many adults with intellectual disabilities live with ageing parents, often without concrete plans for transitioning to alternative living arrangements. Little is known about transition experiences once they occur. This study explores the experiences of adults with intellectual disabilities and their family members of this transition through a relational lens. Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 people: 8 adults with intellectual disabilities, 13 parents, and 4 siblings. Results: Three themes were constructed from the data: ‘Gaining independence and letting go’, ‘negotiating unfamiliar relationships’ and ‘social inclusion and making new connections.’. Conclusion: Adults with intellectual disabilities discussed numerous benefits associated with moving out of the family home, including increased autonomy and opportunities for new relationships. Family members also described benefits of the transition, but some grappled with needing to ‘let go’ whilst at the same time retaining some degree of control over their family members’ lives.</p
