    The revised athlete sleep behavior questionnaire (ASBQ-2): Aligning with the latest in sleep science research

    This article introduces the revised Athlete Sleep Behavior Questionnaire (ASBQ-2), refining the original ASBQ to better assess athlete sleep behaviors. Updates were based on expert consensus and new research evidence, and address factors like late naps, caffeine use, nighttime training, sleep medication, and electronic device use. Contextual factors, including travel, household disruptions, and large pre-bed meals, were incorporated. The ASBQ-2 maintains its original scoring while merging or removing minimally impactful items, resulting in an 18-item practical assessment tool. These enhancements improve the questionnaire's ability to identify maladaptive sleep behaviors, supporting targeted interventions to optimize recovery, performance, and well-being in athletes, a group prone to sleep challenges.</p

    Sustainability Leverage, Customer Orientation and Firm Performance—An Empirical Study of Small Medium Enterprises in Indonesia

    This research explores how resource‐based views (RBV) and institutional pressures affect sustainability practices in SMEs and examines the impact of customer orientation on their performance. Evidence linking sustainable practices to enhanced SME performance is limited. A total of 305 SMEs participated in the survey, and the data were analyzed using AMOS—Structural Equation Modeling. Model 1 examines the impact of institutional theory and RBV, showing that barriers impeding sustainability have no significant mediating effect on environmental practices but a negative impact on social practices. To determine the influence of customers on firm performance, Model 2 was conceptualized, showing the mediating effects of social and sustainable practices between motivation and firm performance. The results indicate that environmental practices are unlikely to provide opportunities for increased performance, given their negative mediating effect. This research makes several valuable contributions to SME literature on sustainability in developing countries, which are useful for practitioners.</p

    Investigating fucoidan blend supplementation and resistance training in humans: a parallel randomized controlled trial design

    Fucoidan extracted from brown algae has been shown to improve aerobic capacity and increase muscle size and strength in mice. Whether these beneficial effects translate to humans is unknown. This study investigated the effect of a resistance training program in combination with fucoidan supplementation on measures of strength and performance in apparently healthy adults. In a double-blind placebo control fashion, 20 participants (9 male and 11 female) were randomised to supplement with fucoidan ( N = 10, 1 g/day) or placebo ( N = 10, 1 g/day) during six weeks of resistance training. Body composition, muscle strength, anaerobic performance, and blood measurements were compared pre- and post-resistance training. Strength measured by 1 repetition max back squat was significantly increased in both placebo and fucoidan supplemented groups ( p < 0.001), with no significant effect of treatment observed ( p = 0.48). Peak power and relative peak power produced during a Wingate test were significantly increased in the fucoidan supplemented group only ( p < 0.05). There was a significant treatment effect on body composition ( p < 0.05), with the fucoidan supplemented group demonstrating a significant increase in lean body mass and a decrease in body fat % ( p < 0.05). In conclusion, fucoidan supplementation during resistance training may provide a viable strategy for enhancing muscle anaerobic performance as well as improving metabolism and body composition.</p

    LGBTQIA+ People's Experiences of Cancer Care and Navigation Services

    This report synthesises evidence from 226 studies examining the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people with cancer across the care continuum, spanning prevention and screening, diagnosis and treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care. Commissioned by Cancer Council Australia, the review responds to a national commitment to advancing equitable, inclusive, and affirming cancer care. Drawing on both Australian and international literature - including extensive Australian studies examining LGBTQIA+ people’s experiences within local cancer and healthcare systems - the findings highlight persistent disparities, systemic barriers, and psychosocial challenges, while also identifying protective factors and opportunities for service improvement.</p

    How does artificial intelligence affect the financing efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)?

    This study examines how artificial intelligence (AI) affects the financing efficiency of SMEs in China from 2007 to 2023. Using a novel AI adoption index derived from annual report text analysis and a comprehensive financing efficiency measure, we find that AI significantly improves SME financing efficiency by reducing costs and risks and enhancing returns. The effects operate through alleviating information asymmetry, easing financing constraints, and promoting innovation. The impact is more pronounced for non-state-owned firms, technology-intensive industries, and those in eastern China. These findings offer insights for digital transformation in emerging market SMEs.</p

    Leadership Categorization Theory: A Critical Replication and Extension with Cognitive Mapping

    Leadership categorization theory proposes that individuals hold multiple implicit leadership theories (ILTs), each tailored to a specific context and organized hierarchically from superordinate to subordinate levels. A central assumption of this model is that ILT attributes maintain consistent meanings across levels, forming nested cognitive structures. This study questions that assumption by examining how the commonly cited attribute of intelligence is defined at hierarchical levels in a political leadership context. Drawing on serial cognitive and connectionist models of schema activation, we use cognitive mapping and verbal protocols with 30 participants to analyze intelligence at superordinate, basic, and subordinate levels. Our findings suggest that ILT attributes often shift in meaning across these levels, undermining the assumption of stable, coherent hierarchies. Quantitatively, adjacent levels shared about half of their attributes, with the rest unique to each level, underscoring both the commonality and the variability of leadership prototypes. Rather than nested subsets, ILTs reflect context-sensitive configurations that vary with level of abstraction. These results refine leadership categorization theory by challenging its structural assumptions and support a more dynamic model of leadership categorization. We conclude with implications for leadership development, performance evaluation, and succession planning, highlighting the importance of recognizing shifting expectations when assessing leaders.</p

    Fish Bycatch of Shrimp Trawling Fishery and Length-Weight Relationships of 138 Fishes from the Tropical Eastern Pacific, El Salvador

    Marine biodiversity is significantly impacted by bottom-trawling fisheries, which generate substantial bycatch. Bycatch species are often discarded, unreported, and undocumented, hindering conservation and management efforts. Quantifying bycatch volumes and characterizing the biological traits of bycatch species remain challenging yet critical for sustainable fisheries management. This study aimed to (1) describe spatiotemporal patterns of bycatch in El Salvador’s shrimp bottom-trawl fisheries and (2) estimate length-weight relationships (LWRs) for fish bycatch species. A total of 428 trawls were conducted at depths of 20 to 100 m across four marine zones between April and November. Bycatch was categorized as either traditional (all non-target species) or flexible (species with no commercial value). Species vulnerability was assessed using CITES, IUCN, and Fishing Vulnerability Index classifications. Bycatch accounted for 22–100% of total catch per trawl, averaging ~ 93%. Bathymetric differences were significant, with the highest bycatch volumes in shallow waters (230 ± 24 kg/h at 20 m) declining to 32 ± 8 kg/h at 80 m. Temporally, bycatch peaked in April (140 ± 27 kg/h) and reached its lowest levels in October (82 ± 22 kg/h). There were no significant spatial differences observed among the four fishing zones, and trends were consistent across both bycatch classifications. Bottom trawling in shrimp fisheries affected at least 14 bycatch species listed under IUCN threat categories and 58 species with moderate to very high fishing vulnerability. Length-weight measurements were taken from 16,384 specimens representing 138 fish bycatch species. Strong length-weight correlations (r > 0.8) were found for 107 species, and LWRs were newly documented for 62 species in the Tropical Eastern Pacific.</p
