Online impulse purchases versus planned purchases and the role of visual attributes
Given the rapid growth of online buying, there seems to be a significant gap in understanding how consumers derive satisfaction from their past online fashion purchases, particularly in the absence of tactile experiences, relying solely on visual aesthetics for both planned and impulse decisions. This gap examines the necessity of evaluating how online shopping platforms should cater to diverse consumer behaviors. The goal is to examine how the visual aesthetic attributes of fashion clothing purchased online, whether through impulse or planned decisions, can influence satisfaction through a conceptualized model. It incorporates several variables’ mediating and moderating roles for a more plausible explanation. Two distinct samples were drawn from consumers who independently made planned purchases and those who made impulse purchases, totalling 483 respondents in the survey. Multigroup Structural Equation Modeling was employed for data analysis. The findings reveal that visual aesthetics significantly and positively impact perceived risk, perceived quality, and satisfaction. Additionally, perceived risk positively influences perceived quality. However, perceived quality exhibits a negative relationship with satisfaction. Both impulse and planned behaviors significantly moderate the relationship, except for the value aesthetic attributes of fashion clothing and perceived risk for impulse buyers. This article contributes to the theoretical and practical implications.</p

Pentacyclic fused diborepinium ions with carbene- and carbone-mediated deep-blue to red emission
Designing molecules that can undergo late-stage modifications resulting in specific optical properties is useful for developing structure-function trends in materials, which ultimately advance optoelectronic applications. Herein, we report a series of fused diborepinium ions stabilized by carbene and carbone ligands (diamino-N-heterocyclic carbenes, cyclic(alkyl)(amino) carbenes, carbodicarbenes, and carbodiphosphoranes), including a detailed bonding analysis. These are the first structurally confirmed examples of diborepin dications and we detail how distortions in the core of the pentacyclic fused system impact aromaticity, stability, and their light-emitting properties. Using the same fused diborepin scaffold, coordinating ligands were used to dramatically shift the emission profile, which exhibit colors ranging from blue to red (358-643 nm). Notably, these diborepinium ions access expanded regions of the visible spectrum compared to known examples of borepins, with quantum yields up to 60%. Carbones were determined to be superior stabilizing ligands, resulting in improved stability in the solution and solid states. Density functional theory was used to provide insight into the bonding as well as the specific transitions that result in the observed photophysical properties
Transfer and persistence of intruder DNA within an office after reuse by owner
The heightened sensitivity of DNA typing techniques, paired with the extensive use of trace DNA in forensic investigations, has resulted in an increased need to understand how and when DNA is deposited on surfaces of interest. This study focussed on the transfer, persistence, and prevalence of trace DNA in a single occupation of an office space by an intruder, when all contacts made during occupation and for the two hours prior and post occupation were known. The extent to which DNA could be recovered from contacted/not contacted surfaces was investigated. This study investigates the impacts of these movements and use of an office space when the duration of occupancy, surface contact histories and shedder status of participants are known. Contacts were documented and surfaces in the office space were targeted for sampling. Categories were set for target sampling that included different types of contact. Direct and indirect DNA transfer was detected in 55 % and 6 % of samples, respectively. Contactless DNA transfer was detected in 0.5 % of samples. The owner was observed as the sole/major/majority contributor in 77 % of the samples and as minor contributor in 10 % of samples. The intruder was observed as the sole/major/majority contributor in 14 % of samples and as the minor contributor in 16 %. An increased number of contacts increased the relative DNA contribution of the individual making the contact, however, not all observed direct contacts resulted in detectable DNA transfer. The outcome of this study will aid in better sample targeting strategies and contribute to the pool of data assisting in the development of activity level assessments
Physiological and communicative emotional disconcordance in children on the autism spectrum
Background: Individuals on the autism spectrum commonly have differences from non-autistic people in expressing their emotions using communicative behaviors, such as facial expressions. However, it is not yet clear if this reduced expressivity stems from reduced physiological reactivity in emotional contexts or if individuals react internally, but do not show these reactions externally to others. We hypothesized that autism is characterized by a discordance between in-the-moment internal psychophysiological arousal and external communicative expressions of emotion. Methods: Forty-one children on the autism spectrum and 39 non-autistic, typically developing (TD) children of two age groups (2–4 and 8–12 years) participated in a low-level stress task whilst wearing a wireless electrocardiogram. Children’s negative emotional expressions (facial, vocal, bodily) were coded following standardized protocols. Alexithymia traits were assessed using the Children’s Alexithymia Measure with school-aged children only. Data analyses involved ANOVAs, correlations, and sensitivity analyses. Results: There were no group differences in physiological arousal (heart rate) or in communicative expressions of stress to the stress task. For TD preschoolers, physiological arousal during the stress task was associated with vocal expressions and for TD school-aged children, they were associated with facial and bodily expressions. By contrast, for children on the autism spectrum, physiological arousal during the stress tasks was not associated with communicative expressions across age groups. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that children on the autism spectrum might experience emotional disconcordance, in that their physiological arousal does not align with their communicative expressions. Therefore, the internally experienced stress of children on the autism spectrum may be inadvertently missed by teachers and caregivers and, consequently, learning opportunities for teaching emotional communication and regulation may be also missed. Our results support the use of wearable biosensors to facilitate such interventions in children on the autism spectrum
Hyper‐focus, sticky attention, and springy attention in young autistic children: Associations with sensory behaviors and cognitive ability
The autistic-developed monotropism account suggests that atypical, domain-general attentional hyper-focus on interests is a central aspect of autism, but domain-general attention differences in autism can manifest differently. Prior research suggests autistic children are often slow to disengage attention from stimuli—a pattern often called “sticky attention”—and that they can show reduced novelty preference. These attentional patterns could influence sensory experiences and learning. We used eye-tracking to investigate novelty preference and “sticky attention” in young autistic children; we also examined whether attentional patterns were related to cognitive abilities and caregiver-reported sensory responsiveness. A total of 46 autistic and 28 nonautistic participants, aged between 2 and 4 years, provided usable data. We found no evidence that autistic children exhibited greater “sticky attention” than nonautistics, but “sticky attention” in autism was associated with more caregiver-reported sensory hyper-responsiveness, seeking/interests, and enhanced perception. Autistic children also nonsignificantly trended toward exhibiting reduced novelty preference. Unexpectedly, the time-course of this trending novelty preference difference implied it was not driven by reduced orienting to novelty, but increased returning to already-familiarized stimuli: what we call “springy attention.” Exploratory analyses of data from the attentional disengagement task suggest autistic participants may have exhibited greater “springy attention,” though further research with paradigms optimized for measuring this construct should confirm this. Importantly, “springy attention” was robustly related to reduced cognitive abilities and greater caregiver-reported hypo-responsiveness. Thus, this study illuminates two distinct domain-general attentional patterns, each with distinct correlates in young autistic children, which could have important implications for understanding autistic children's learning, development, and experiences
