    A novel approach for the effective prediction of cardiovascular disease using applied artificial intelligence techniques

    AbstractAimsThe objective of this research is to develop an effective cardiovascular disease prediction framework using machine learning techniques and to achieve high accuracy for the prediction of cardiovascular disease.MethodsIn this paper, we have utilized machine learning algorithms to predict cardiovascular disease on the basis of symptoms such as chest pain, age and blood pressure. This study incorporated five distinct datasets: Heart UCI, Stroke, Heart Statlog, Framingham and Coronary Heart dataset obtained from online sources. For the implementation of the framework, RapidMiner tool was used. The three‐step approach includes pre‐processing of the dataset, applying feature selection method on pre‐processed dataset and then applying classification methods for prediction of results. We addressed missing values by replacing them with mean, and class imbalance was handled using sample bootstrapping. Various machine learning classifiers were applied out of which random forest with AdaBoost dataset using 10‐fold cross‐validation provided the high accuracy.ResultsThe proposed model provides the highest accuracy of 99.48% on Heart Statlog, 93.90% on Heart UCI, 96.25% on Stroke dataset, 86% on Framingham dataset and 78.36% on Coronary heart disease dataset, respectively.ConclusionsIn conclusion, the results of the study have shown remarkable potential of the proposed framework. By handling imbalance and missing values, a significantly accurate framework has been established that could effectively contribute to the prediction of cardiovascular disease at early stages

    Embodied agency through soft skills development in dance

    The fluidity, adaptability and complexity of a dancer's movement are often used as examples of how dance at a level of mastery is embodied. The freedom this gives the dancer to choose what and how they move is enjoyed at a subconscious level, with often tacit knowledge driving the artistic and technical brilliance. The topic of embodied agency in dance becomes more complicated when examining dance for the older person who has had little training. Embodiment is not straight forward, particularly if one examines dancing for the older adult with a neurodegenerative condition, which disrupts cognition and physical movement. Yet, as I argue, embodied agency is a key vision for socially engaged dance practices, particularly using improvisation. In the paper I examine how centring the amateur older dancer with a neurological condition means looking again at embodied agency and what it could mean in this context, as well as what the conditions are that might make it work. The paper takes the example of Dance Well, a group of community dancers in Italy that accommodates people with Parkinson's and others, including those seeking asylum. With this example I draw upon ideas from research I co-led to name some of the tacit soft skills—such as empathy and understanding and appreciating difference—developed through Dance Well's engagement with the local community, which, I now suggest, led to a process of embodied agency. I argue that in identifying this anoetic knowing, it is clear that embodied agency is not just about mastery of movement, but about important relational skills that are embodied and practiced through dancing, even by those with little formal dance training. I argue that moving together whilst embodying soft skill qualities may nurture an environment that could enable the transformation of relationships between those dancing and contribute to the creation of an important and meaningful activity within the community. In this way, the paper outlines ideas on how embodied agency through dancing may contribute to a vision of social justice and a characterization of embodiment that emphasizes the recognition of each other's humanity

    As cases of Parkinson’s Disease rise in Europe, there is an urgency to reduceits burden on those living with Parkinson’s and on health services. Whilst thesearch for a cure is on-going, and the use of medication is an on-goingexperiment for many people, the engagement with non-pharmaceuticalinterventions is imperative. Under this topic, the 2024 Policy Framework toReduce the Burden of Neurodegenerative Diseases in Europe and Beyondnotes the important role that non-pharmaceutical interventions play. Inexploring in detail the contribution of arts practices, in particular dancing,this paper argues that they have a potentially impactful role to play asnon-pharmaceutical interventions for people with Parkinson’s.This discursive article critically engages with current research discussingwhat factors are important to be considered for the integration of artspractices – in particular dancing - in a successful implementation of aroadmap for better relieving the burden of Parkinson’s. Key points laid outinclude:• It needs to be recognised that arts practices are heterogenous and donot have treatment goals, but do emphasise what the person brings toa process. The lack of standardisation and goals are to be embraced,rather than criticised for being difficult to measure.• The evidence around dancing for people with Parkinson’s is notconclusive, yet largely positively framed.• To increase understanding of what quality of life and relief of burdenfeels like to people with Parkinson’s - and so greater success inimplementing arts practices as NPIs in a Europe-wide policy - abroader range of studies from different disciplines need to be used inresearching or reviewing this area of work; researchers need toactively listen to what matters to people with Parkinson’s and becritically reflective of their own studies consequently.• The Action Plan for non-pharmacological interventions in the PolicyFramework is welcomed. Policy implementation needs to happen inconsultation with dance organisations operating strategically aroundEurope, with people with Parkinson’s and with those who areunderrepresented in Parkinson’s initiatives and dance activity

    A robust algorithm for authenticated health data access via blockchain and cloud computing

    In modern healthcare, providers increasingly use cloud services to store and share electronic medical records. However, traditional cloud hosting, which depends on intermediaries, poses risks to privacy and security, including inadequate control over access, data auditing, and tracking data origins. Additionally, current schemes face significant limitations such as scalability concerns, high computational overhead, practical implementation challenges, and issues with interoperability and data standardization. Unauthorized data access by cloud providers further exacerbates these concerns. Blockchain technology, known for its secure and decentralized nature, offers a solution by enabling secure data auditing in sharing systems. This research integrates blockchain into healthcare for efficient record management. We proposed a blockchain-based method for secure EHR management and integrated Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) for fine-grained access control. The proposed algorithm combines blockchain and smart contracts with a cloud-based healthcare Service Management System (SMS) to ensure secure and accessible EHRs. Smart contracts automate key management, encryption, and decryption processes, enhancing data security and integrity. The blockchain ledger authenticates data transactions, while the cloud provides scalability. The SMS manages access requests, enhancing resource allocation and response times. A dual authentication system confirms patient keys before granting data access, with failed attempts leading to access revocation and incident logging. Our analyses show that this algorithm significantly improves the security and efficiency of health data exchanges. By combining blockchain’s decentralized structure with the cloud’s scalability, this approach significantly improves EHR security protocols in modern healthcare setting

    Unveiling the Nexus: Exploring the Collective Social Exchange Dynamics of High-Performance Work Systems in Shaping Organizational Outcomes

    Purpose:This study aims to explore the nuanced role of organizational “collectives” in transmitting the effect of high-performance work systems (HPWS) on organizations’ market success and workforce retention.Design/methodology/approach:The multi-source data was collected from 113 construction firms operating in Pakistan using a survey questionnaire.Findings:The findings indicate that collective human capital and collective satisfaction of organizations differentially mediate the effect of HPWS on market success and workforce retention. Collective satisfaction mediates the effect of HPWS on both market success and workforce retention, however collective human capital only mediates this relationship for market success of organizations.Practical implications:Organizations should consider prioritizing investment in cognitive and affective development of overall human resources. Knowledge, skills, abilities and emotions of individual employees operate at the collective level so organizations should design HRM practices to manage collective thoughts and interpretations.Originality/value:This is the first study to investigate human capital and satisfaction at the collective organization level to explore collective developmental and motivational paths for HPWS to boost organization strategic outcomes.© 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited.
