mmPhysio: Millimetre-Wave Radar for Precise Hop Assessment

    No full text
Motion tests for physiotherapy purposes are a cornerstone in a rehabilitation process. For many reasons, clinicians have been manually measuring and tracking movements so far, being subject to inaccuracies and increasing the time spent in those assessments. This paper studies the reliability of a millimetre wave (mmWave) radar to perform motion tracking for accurate hop tests. Once the variables of interest are extracted and the system set up, the results demonstrate that this system’s accuracy allows its use in clinical environments, facilitating the task of tracking motion and extracting the distance covered by the subject when hopping. The radar outputs are compared against a well-known marker-based optical system, showing high agreement and validating the radar’s effectiveness, with a difference of less 8 cm in the single hop test, 10 cm in the triple hop test, and 21 cm in the crossover hop test for 75% of all measurements. Hence, this approach offers a contactless, efficient, and precise alternative for physiotherapy motion assessment

Digital Marketing ROI in the Era of Experience Economy: Evolving Methodologies and Unified Measurement Strategies

    No full text
This research examines the evolving landscape of digital marketing ROI measurement within the context of the Experience Economy, driven by increasing channel complexity and technological advancements. It traces the historical progression from basic metrics to sophisticated multi-touch attribution (MTA) and marketing mix modeling (MMM). Employing a multi-method approach, including literature review and expert interviews, the study identifies key challenges like privacy regulations and data integration, and explores emerging trends like AI-driven analytics. A hierarchical ROI framework (tactical, operational, strategic) and temporal considerations, with a focus on measuring experiential value, are developed. Methodologies such as probabilistic path analysis and Bayesian models are evaluated for effectiveness. Ethical considerations regarding data privacy are also addressed. The findings provide actionable recommendations for optimizing digital marketing ROI, including the measurement of customer experiences, through comprehensive and ethical measurement practices

Generative AI and schools - an update

    Get PDF
Miles Berry, Professor of Computing Education at the University of Roehampton, presents an update on generative AI in schools covering government funding, DfE proofs of concept and pilot projects, lesson plans and anonymised pupil work that can be used to augment or fine tune language models, and more. He also touches on work by Oak National Academy to build a comprehensive library of lesson plans and teaching resources. On a practical basis, Berry suggests that rather than trying to keep up with the latest AI tools and technologies, a pragmatic approach for schools is to develop proficiency with core tools. Helping schools in this direction, he lists some of the tools and their competencies that have recently attracted his attention

Locating the context:Time, space and tensions

    No full text
As a starting chapter for part I ‘Whose values are defining me’, this chapter begins with academic reflection on our work in higher education driven by neoliberalism, followed by our discussion of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children’s lives via narratives and observations from own experience and existing research. This chapter focuses on the context of young children constructing and developing their identities in the process of joggling all aspects involved in their childhood experiences. We consider time, space, challenges and tensions arising from the socio-cultural, economic, environmental and political domains involved in the processes of children maintaining their motivations and dispositions whilst developing their sense of self in relation to others through relationships and interactions in families, groups, early childhood settings, communities and the wider world

Locating perspectives:A multi-disciplinary perspective underpinned by the Froebelian and Freirean lenses

    No full text
This chapter focuses on the methodological framework employed in the book project to help readers understand how young children’s identities are to be explored and researched in the book for the purpose of clarity and criticality. Underpinned by the Froebelian and Freirean lenses, the multi-disciplinary research perspective is further fused into a variety of disciplinary scholarship from history, psychology, sociology, ethnography, human ecology, participatory research, environmental education and equity-based pedagogies when appropriate. In the meantime, the authors’ academic, professional and personal experience in relation to work and family life with young children in various contexts offer live narratives. By doing so, we aim to create a fuller picture and deeper understanding of this complex area of children’s identities in early childhood, which lays the foundation of the whole book project

    Introduction

    No full text
This chapter explains the rationale for the book. Alongside recognition of the importance of identity as key foundation for children’s holistic development and wellbeing is a great need to further research children’s identities in early childhood and invite all the stakeholders such as parents, practitioners, professionals, academics, researchers and policy makers to broaden understanding, listen to children, challenge own assumptions and stereotypes, embrace and promote justice and humanity in order to support children’s wellbeing and life experiences in early childhood, a unique stage in its own right and a crucial stage as part of life course
