    The Quantum Brain: The Untold Story of Docosahexaenoic Acid’s Role in Brain Evolution, Biophysics, and Cognition

    Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the dominant polyunsaturated fatty acid in photoreceptors, neurons, and synapses, is usually described as a passive structural membrane constituent. We propose a different view: DHA is a quantum-electronically active molecule whose conjugated double-bond system creates an electron-rich matrix that couples with proteins to form quantum “clouds” and high-speed signaling central to recognition, recall, and cognition. Integrating evidence from molecular evolution, biophysics, and neuroscience, we argue that, as the original chromophore, DHA’s unique properties enabled the emergence of the nervous system and continue to provide the electronic substrate for cognition. By suggesting that cognition depends not only on protein-based mechanisms but on DHA-mediated electron dynamics at the membrane–protein interface, this perspective reframes DHA as an active, conserved determinant of brain evolution and function

    DEED - Designing Embodied Education in Dance

    Synthesising the findings of the research by the Designing Embodied Education in Dance network (DEED), through an in-person practice-as-research network meeting, and disseminating these findings via a CRACE sharing event and a resource website. The project applies a manifold of practice-as-research methods including:Participatory Research, Embodied Research, Artistic Research and contributes to knowledge exchange.The DEED project brings together dance educators, educational leaders, scholars and artists from Mexico, United States, Ireland, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany, for the first in-person meeting of the Designing Embodied Education in Dance network (DEED). The project consists of two phases:1. A three-day research meeting taking place at the University of Roehampton will allow network members to synthesise their findings and further evolve the research of their collaborative, online exchange on designing embodied education in dance, which has been ongoing since 2019. The team will facilitate workshops, culminating in a CRACE research exchange event allowing for sharing and reflection with a wider audience. PG Dance students will participate throughout, representing the perspective of the student voice.2. The website disseminates the key principles and practices which evolved as a result of a three day research network meeting. It will serve as a platform for broader discourse on embodied solutions for, the much-desired, reform of dance education at tertiary level (BA, MA, MFA, PhD). Since research on the topic is scarce, the project will be a novel contribution to educational and dance research specifically, and offer diverse perspectives from the geographical, environmental, socio-political and economic contexts the network members are operating in.<br/

    This chapter explores the vital link between the home environment and the challenges posed by ageing and disability. It emphasises the necessity of designing spaces that are age-friendly and inclusive for those with disabilities. The notion of person-environment fit is introduced to highlight the importance of harmonising changing individual needs with living environments. Design approaches, such as lifetime homes and universal design, aim to enable architects and others to create adaptable and accessible housing to cater to diverse resident's requirements. Additionally, I propose the use of adjacency diagrams as tools for visually evaluating the suitability of home layouts for ageing individuals and their caregivers. I underscore the significance of holistic, user-focused design for creating age-friendly and disability-inclusive environments. The chapter emphasises the need to engage users in the design process, aligning subjective and objective person-environment fit, and enhancing functionality and quality of life for ageing individuals and their caregivers

    Employing Federated Learning for the Implication of Digital Twin

    Rapid development of wireless technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and widely deployed fifth generation (5G) networks, are proved to be the embarkment of envisioning, and planning for sixth generation (6G) mobile networks. It is believed that 6G will provide extremely high data rates, low latency, and improved edge intelligence for hundreds of billions of end devices, connected to the 6G network. Thus, a huge amount of data will be generated from these devices, which requires tremendous computation and communication resources to be provided by edge servers. The gap between users’ requirements and edge servers’ capability of service provisions in 6G systems is mitigated with digital twin with close monitoring, real-time interaction, and reliable communication between the digital space and the physical systems, which can in turn optimize the running of the physical systems. This article entails the basic knowledge of Digital Twin (DT) for 6G Wireless networks. Moreover, the properties of Federated Learning that can enhance the DT for 6G to provide high level performance in communication by presenting the case studies of smart manufacturing and smart cities

    Practical work can play a very important role in the teaching and learning process in school science in contributing towards the development of students’ understanding of scientific processes and concepts, as well as in generating a positive attitude towards science in general. The purpose of this article is to identify barriers that hinder the effective use of practical work in secondary school science and to consider approaches that might help to overcome those barriers. The article distinguishes between barriers relating to resources and assessment and those that relate to teachers and technicians. <br/
