The Multilingual Emotional Support programme: Mental health for English speakers of other languages (ESOL)
Background- Extant research indicates that ESOLs present language-specific and wider mental health needs while resettling. Equipping and empowering them to express the self and needs in native and non-native languages and other means could improve communication skills for help-seeking and mutual support in the host country.Aim/Objectives- Our BIG-funded programme aimed to inform ESOL learners on emotion monitoring and help-seeking by wellbeing workshops, dance movement psychotherapy (DMP) and individual support (1:1), at a further education college. Objectives include evaluating language-related wellbeing needs, mental health states and MES feedback.Methods- For 5 weeks learners’ (N>50) language and wellbeing needs were collated in a bespoke Needs Survey, and mental health in WHO Quality of Life scale, Patient Health Questionnaire (depression), Generalised Anxiety Disorder measure, and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Health Wellbeing Scale (multilingual versions). They fed back on workshops, DMP and 1:1 in Session and Outcome Rating scales and by writing in their preferred language.Results- Learners rated English speaking as their weakest proficiency, commonly reported an inability to express feelings or being misunderstood, and most impacted by confidence issues, hoping to use MES to improve English and mental wellbeing. Their mental health (N=16-33) scores were comparable to the general population with little subgroup variation. Small-group workshops and DMP had slightly higher SRS and ORS ratings than a final multigroup session, but feedback was favourable referring most to learning about emotions, wishing for a longer series.Conclusion- Despite their diversity and normative mental health, ESOLs shared English-related wellbeing issues, hoping to connect more with others. This can be supported by wellbeing promotion focusing on sharing emotions and enabling learners to take part in preferred languages to boost access, engagement and outcomes
Visualizing Femicide in the print media: A comparison of Italy and the UK
The 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action developed at the Fourth United Nations World Conference on Women acknowledged the media as a vital arena for the advancement of women’s equality. Now, thirty years after the Beijing Declaration, it is clear that structural inequalities within journalism and the media continue to shape representations of women and thus the advancement of gender equality. From this starting point, this article examines how images are used in print media reporting on femicide within intimate relationships. It asks how newspapers have visualized incidents of femicide, how this shapes narratives and understandings of domestic violence, and what this means for women’s equality. Drawing on two examples from the media inthe United Kingdom and Italy, this article situates the cases within national regulatory frameworks and compares the visual representation of femicide in the printed press in the two countries as a means of understanding core principles of cultural and political narratives (visual and written) in the reporting on femicide in both countries
DNA barcodes narrow down the possible sources of introductions of an invasive banana skipper, <i>Erionota torus</i> Evans (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae)
The banana skipper, Erionota torus Evans (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae, Hesperiinae, Erionotini) is a South-east Asian pest of banana that, in the last 60 years, has spread to the southern Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and La Réunion, and potentially threatens Africa and Tropical America. A partial library of DNA barcodes from the indigenous and introduced ranges was built. Based on our analysis, the indigenous populations can be divided into an ‘East’ group, in China and Vietnam, and a ‘West’ group in India, Nepal, Myanmar and west Malaysia. Further, within the ‘West’ group, there is a coherent ‘Malaysia’ subgroup from west Malaysia. Introduced populations in south India, La Réunion and Taiwan showed almost no variation in barcodes, suggesting they are each based on a single homogenous introduction. We conclude that the introduced populations in Taiwan and Japan match the ‘East’ group, the introduced populations in Mauritius and La Réunion match the ‘Malaysia’ subgroup and the introduced population in south India matches the ‘West’ group. These results are discussed in the context of existing ideas regarding the source of each introduction, and the implications in terms of pathways of entry
Integrating Sustainability in Project Management:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Success Factors and Organisational Outcomes
This study employs systematic and meta-analysis methodologies to examine how sustainability factors are integrated within project management frameworks and to evaluate their impact on project success outcomes across diverse organisational contexts. Following rigorous PRISMA guidelines, an extensive literature search yielded 25 studies investigating environmental and social sustainability integration in project processes and their relationship to performance indicators across multiple sectors. Complementary meta-analysis of 22 papers containing statistical datasets on sustainability adoption levels and associated success measures provided quantitative validation of key relationships. The research concludes that while sustainability integration approaches have made significant progress in addressing explicit organisational gaps, enhanced participatory oversight mechanisms, a fundamental shift to participative feedback loops, and holistic integration of technical, social, and contextual dimensions remain crucial for maximizing impacts. The implications emphasise the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, adaptive learning systems, and inclusive decision-making processes that prioritize stakeholder engagement throughout project lifecycles. Future research should focus on developing comprehensive evaluation frameworks, exploring emerging sustainability concepts, and establishing governance models that foster transparency and shared decisionmaking power

Cross-Project Multiclass Classification of EARS-Based Functional Requirements Utilizing Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning
Software requirements are primarily classified into functional and non-functional requirements. While research has explored automated multiclass classification of non-functional requirements, functional requirements remain largely unexplored. This study addressed that gap by introducing a comprehensive dataset comprising 9529 functional requirements from 315 diverse projects. The requirements are classified into five categories: ubiquitous, event-driven, state-driven, unwanted behavior, and optional capabilities. Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) techniques are employed to enable automated classification. All software requirements underwent several procedures, including normalization and feature extraction techniques such as TF-IDF. A series of Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) experiments were conducted to classify subcategories of functional requirements. Among the trained models, the convolutional neural network achieved the highest performance, with an accuracy of 93, followed by the long short-term memory network with an accuracy of 92, outperforming traditional decision-tree-based methods. This work offers a foundation for precise requirement classification tools by providing both the dataset and an automated classification approach

Toward Safer Biotherapeutics: Expression and Characterization of a Humanized Chimeric L-Asparaginase in E. coli
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer affecting children, making up about 80% of all acute leukemia cases in the pediatric population. While treatment with L-asparaginase (ASNase) has greatly improved survival rates, its bacterial origin often causes immune reactions in some patients, which can reduce how well the therapy works. To overcome this challenge, previous in silico studies designed a humanized chimeric ASNase by swapping out the predicted immunogenic parts of the bacterial enzyme with similar, less immunogenic segments from the human version—while keeping the enzyme’s active site intact. In this study, the chimeric L-asparaginase designed was successfully cloned, expressed, and purified using the Escherichia coli Rosetta strain. The production conditions (37 °C, 0.01 mM IPTG, 2–4 h) were optimized, and we purified the enzyme in a single step with nickel-affinity chromatography. The enzyme’s activity was confirmed in vitro, showing that it is possible to produce a functional humanized variant in a bacterial system. These results lay important groundwork for future research to assess the immune response and therapeutic potential of this novel chimeric enzyme
