    To enlighten or to obscure: a meta-analytic inquiry into the effects of leadership behavior on employees’ knowledge hiding

    In the evolving business paradigm, knowledge has become a crucial resource for organizations, drawing senior managers’ attention to employee knowledge hiding. While extensively discussed, particularly regarding leadership behavior, research conclusions on its antecedents vary. Existing studies haven’t comprehensively quantified the relationship between leadership behaviors and employee knowledge hiding. This study aims to systematically integrate the impact of different leadership behaviors on employee knowledge hiding under cross-situational and large-sample conditions. A meta-analysis of 41 empirical studies involving 14,776 samples explored how relational-oriented, change-oriented, and destructive-passive leadership behaviors influence employee knowledge hiding. The findings reveal that relational-oriented and change-oriented leadership behaviors negatively impact employee knowledge hiding, while destructive-passive leadership behavior positively influences it. The strength of these impacts, from strongest to weakest, is change-oriented, destructive-passive, and relational-oriented leadership behaviors. This research underscores the importance of implementing benign leadership within organizations to reduce knowledge hiding

    Valorization of Incinerated Biomedical Waste Ash in Cementitious System: A Comprehensive Review

    Disposing of incinerated biomedical waste ash (IBWA) contaminated with heavy metals (e.g., Cr, Zn, Pb) poses significant environmental and public health concerns, necessitating innovative and sustainable management strategies. Cement-based solidification emerges as a promising approach to repurpose IBWA by effectively immobilizing heavy metals and mitigating their ecological footprint. However, broader industrial and societal acceptance of IBWA as a substitute for cement and sand remains constrained owing to limited quantification of IBWA availability and safety concerns. In this perspective, the current paper presents a global database on IBWA availability and maps the geographic distribution of biomedical waste incinerators in India. It also comprehensively reviews IBWA’s potential in mortar/concrete, focusing on its physico-chemical, leachability, hydration, mechanical, durability, and microstructural properties. The study further highlights the importance of a cradle-to-gate and gate-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to holistically assess the environmental performance of IBWA-incorporated mortar systems, promoting circular economy principles and resource efficiency in the construction sector. IBWA, with its high SiO₂ and CaO content (> 50%), exhibits latent hydraulic properties suitable for construction applications. The porous cellular structure of IBWA can lead to increased porosity and water absorption in concrete. Leachate analysis demonstrated the effective stabilization of heavy elements within the cement hydration matrix (C-S-H, C-A-S-H, etc.), meeting US EPA regulatory standards. LCA interprets that IBWA utilization of up to 10% cement replacement material and 30% sand replacement material could curtail the carbon footprint and energy demand by ~ 25–35% and 15–25%, respectively, compared to conventional cement-based mortar systems. These findings highlight IBWA’s potential to transform the construction sector, aligning it with global sustainability goals and reducing its dependence on non-renewable resources

    This book provides an in-depth exploration of the informal economy across ten Balkan countries, analysing its key drivers, measurement techniques, and broader economic implications. Drawing on a wide range of empirical studies, it examines the methodologies used to estimate the size of informal activities, with a particular focus on the MIMIC (Multiple Indicators, Multiple Causes) model. Spanning the period from the mid-1990s to 2014, the study traces the evolution of informal economic activity across Serbia, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey. Due to data limitations, Kosovo and Montenegro are excluded, reflecting the challenges of assessing economic trends in newly independent states. By bridging theoretical frameworks with empirical research, this book offers valuable insights into the role of the informal sector in the region's economic landscape. It serves as an essential resource for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding the complexities of informal economies in transition economies

    Beyond Nearest-Neighbor Connections in Device-to-Device Cellular Networks

    Device-to-device (D2D) communication enhances network efficiency by enabling direct, low-latency links between nearby users or devices. While most existing research assumes that D2D connections occur with the nearest neighbor, this assumption often fails in real-world scenarios-such as dense indoor environments, smart buildings, and industrial IoT deployments-due to factors like channel variability, physical obstructions, or limited user participation. In this paper, we investigate the performance implications of connecting to the n-th nearest neighbor in a cellular network supporting underlay D2D communication. Using a stochastic geometry framework, we derive and analyze key performance met-rics, including the coverage probability and average data rate, for both D2D and cellular links under proximity-aware connection strategies. Our results reveal that non-nearest-neighbor associations are not only common but sometimes necessary for maintaining reliable connectivity in highly dense or constrained spaces. These findings are directly relevant to IoT-enhanced localization systems, where fallback mechanisms and adaptive pairing are essential for communication resilience. This work contributes to the development of proximity-aware and spatially adaptive D2D frameworks for next-generation smart environments and 5G-and-beyond wireless networks

    The Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI)‐Enabled Collaborative Approach: Achieving Sustainable Supply Chain Performance

    This study investigates the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing sustainability and efficiency within the fragmented supply chain of the tea industry. Small-scale tea gardens often face logistical inefficiencies, inconsistent quality control, and economic constraints, limiting their competitiveness. This research bridges the gap in literature by proposing an AI-enabled collaborative supply chain model tailored for small-scale tea gardens. Using a mixed-method research design incorporating extensive field studies and structural equation modeling (SEM), this study validates the model's effectiveness. Findings indicate that AI can significantly improve coordination, predictive analytics, and automation in supply chain processes, enhancing operational efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. Additionally, AI-driven collaboration fosters more transparent and data-driven decision-making among supply chain partners, reducing dependency on intermediaries. This study contributes to the theory of collaborative advantage by demonstrating AI's role in fostering cooperative synergies in agricultural supply chains. The proposed AI-enabled framework offers a scalable model for broader application in agribusiness, presenting significant policy and managerial implications

    Exploring relationship between digital dexterity, supply chain quality management, agility and performance – Empirical evidence from Indian B2B manufacturers

    The advent of cutting-edge digitalization has introduced a range of organizational capabilities that have been proposed to assist business-to-business (B2B) manufacturers in attaining a strategic advantage within the intensely competitive global landscape. Nevertheless, the process of digitization poses multiple roadblocks in its execution, leading to a sense of scepticism among manufacturers in the B2B sector about its adoption for the purpose of enhancing their quality management and agility across the supply chain. The current research is a pioneering effort in examining the interplay between digital dexterity (DigDex), supply chain quality management (SCQM), supply chain agility (SCAG), and supply chain performance (SCP) within the distinctive sphere of B2B manufacturing. In order to gain a deeper comprehension of the efficacy of the interplay between various functional capabilities, this study investigates the effectiveness of regulatory governance in providing assistance to B2B manufacturers. This examination is conducted through empirical analysis utilizing data collected from a sample of 291 B2B manufacturers based in India. The research advances the understanding of the mechanisms by which DigDex, SCQM, and SCAG interact for bettering SCP. Practically, these findings guide practitioners to optimize digital capabilities judiciously, tailoring regulatory governance approaches for comprehensive supply chain enhancement in the dynamic B2B manufacturing landscape

    Palestinian Refugee Women From Syria to Jordan: Gender, Displacement and Geopolitics of Anti-Palestinianism

    Based on four years of field research in Palestinian camps in Jordan - including unique interviews with Palestinian refugee women, aid workers, and representatives of international organisations and NGOs in Jordan - the book reveals the extraordinary layers of discrimination suffered by Palestinian women from Syria displaced to Jordan.The women's experiences show them caught between settler colonialism, militarism, nationalism, refugees' global governance and gender regimes that subjected them to multiple forms of structural gender-based violence. The book argues for a feminist analysis of settler colonialism's epistemic violence of anti-Palestinianism to expose the history and geopolitics of intersecting oppressive systems that work through and upon gendered bodies of Palestinian refugee women in humanitarian settings. The book also highlights how local women's groups and frontline workers attempt to fill service gaps. Using a rich theoretical lens to understand the experiences of women in refugee camps, this book attempts to decolonise issues around migration, displacement, refugees and women.Previous work on the Syrian refugee crisis has overlooked the very particular experiences of Palestinian refugee women, which has weakened feminist analysis of gendered processes of humanitarianism, and feminist transnational and intersectional solidarity. This book offers a vital critique of how feminists' adoption of a universality-based analysis of the Syrian refugee crisis has contributed to the further marginalisation of Palestinian refugee women from Syria

    In the Grip of Traditionalism? How Nigerian Middle-Class Working Mothers Navigate Normative Ideals of Femininity

    Changing socio-economic conditions are enticing more and more Nigerian mothers to work and pursue careers. This article explores how middle-class professional women navigate working mother subjectivities in the context of Nigeria’s strong patriarchal culture, where traditional notions of maternal femininity prevail. We argue that the working mother subjectivity is a key site where the struggle over gendered cultural meanings takes place. Drawing on 32 qualitative interviews, we demonstrate how a small group of women refused traditional feminine subject positions; however, most either embraced or reluctantly acquiesced to them, despite having access to broader cultural repertoires and material resources. By unveiling the complexities of the cultural appeal of traditional femininity and social penalties for breaching it, the article extends our understanding of how patriarchal cultures resist gendered change and the nuances and limits of individual patterns of resistance

    Mechanical and hygrothermal properties of hemp-silica bio-composites

    This research investigated the development of a fast-drying silica-based binder for hemp concrete products with enhanced mechanical and thermal properties. Hemp-silica bio-composites were prepared by mixing hemp shivs with a two-component binder system composed of liquid sodium silicate and tributyl citrate (TBC). Compressive strength, thermal conductivity, moisture buffering value, cyclic moisture resistance and microstructure of hemp-silica composites were analysed, and the results were compared with those of hemp-lime concrete. Hemp-silica blocks with shiv-liquid sodium silicate mass ratio of 1:3.75 and TBC content of 37.5 wt% of sodium silicate dry matter produced a compressive strength of 0.56 MPa only after 3 days of drying and 1.92 MPa after 28 days. These were higher than hemp-lime blocks at the same density range. Hemp-silica panels showed a thermal conductivity of 0.101 W/mK and an excellent moisture buffering value of 3.49. Hemp silica formed an open porosity with large air gaps between the particles and a water-resistance silica-based layer on the shiv surface producing a higher moisture resistance compared to hemp-lime systems. This paper focuses on the development of a novel fast-drying binder system with a potential for use in conjunction with other lingnocellular plant aggregates to form low-carbon and efficient multifunctional building materials
