Performance prediction of impact hammer using ensemble machine learning techniques
No full textVarious mechanical excavation systems such as roadheaders, tunnel boring machines (TBM), and impact hammers, are commonly used in mining, tunneling, and civil engineering projects. However, in recent years, the application of impact hammers in hard rock excavation has been on the rise, especially in fractured geological formations. Impact hammers offer some advantages over drill and blast systems like selective mining, mobility, less over excavation, minimal ground disturbance, elimination of blast vibration, reduced ventilation require. ments, and compared to TBMs, low specific energy and small initial investment cost.
Prediction of the net machine production rate in terms of net (instant) breaking rate (NBR) plays an important role in estimation of completion time, schedule and cost of the projects. Performance prediction models has been developed based on field data where Impact hammers were used in tunneling operations. While some models are based on statistical analysis of field data, a fewer subset have been developed using artificial neural network (ANN). In this study, 121 data sets, including machine production rate, uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), rock quality designation (RQD), excavator power (P), and weight of excavator (W) have been compiled and using a CRISP-DM data mining technique along with principal component analysis (PCA), a new model for prediction of the impact hammer performance has been introduced with R-2 of over 85%

Tradition and poetry : a comparative study of T.S. Eliot and Sezai Karakoç
Get PDFThis thesis examines the relationship between modernist poetry and tradition in the
works of T.S. Eliot and Sezai Karakoç. Both poets are significant figures of modernist
poetry and they make constant emphasis on the concept of tradition, which seems
paradoxical with modernity. My question is how these two poets from different
cultures compose modernist poems which have similarities with the framework of
tradition. I focus on traditionalism of these two modernist poets within the context
of their literary views and selected poems. In my thesis, firstly, I look at the context
of modernist poetry and what makes Eliot and Karakoç modernist. Secondly, I
examine Eliot’s and Karakoç’s literary views which are about tradition. The poems
that I select for my thesis reflect the poets’ views on tradition. Thirdly, while
comparing their poems thematically, I focus on the relationship between modernity
and religion with concepts of knowledge, wisdom, modern idols, exile, redemption
and beseeching. Lastly, a structural analysis of the poems is included for a holistic
study. My aim is to show how much in what topics these two poets approach and
diverge from each other considering tradition. Through close reading, I use poets’
essays and poems as my primary source and enrich my thesis with secondary sources.CONTENTS:

Prevalence and predictors of posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms among Syrian refugees in a refugee camp
No full textTurkey is hosting the majority of Syrian refugees. The current study investigates the prevalence of probable posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression among adult Syrians residing in a camp (N = 781) and potential predictors. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised was used to measure PTSD and the Beck Depression Inventory depression. Probable PTSD prevalence was 83.4%, with predictors being female sex (odds ratio [OR], 4.1), previous mental health problems (OR, 4.5), life threat (OR, 3.0), and injury of a loved one (OR, 1.8). Probable depression prevalence was 37.4%, with predictors being female sex (OR, 5.1), previous mental health problems (OR, 2.9), having a loved one who was tortured (OR, 1.7), and not being satisfied at the camp (OR, 1.7). The current study reveals high rates of probable PTSD and depression among Syrian refugees and highlights vulnerabilities such as great risk for women of having psychopathology
A bi˗objective hub location-allocation model considering congestion
No full textIn this paper, a new hub location-allocation model is developed considering congestion and production scheduling. This model assumes that manufacturing and distributing goods, including raw materials and semi-finished or finished goods, take place in hubs only (such as industrial township). The main objective of this study is to minimize the total costs and to minimize the sum of waiting times for processing goods in factories and warehouses. In order to solve the bi-objective model, goal attainment and LP metric techniques are combined to develop a more effective multi-objective technique. Due to the exponential complexity of the proposed approach as well as the nonlinearity of the mathematical model, a number of small and medium-sized problems are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the solution methodology

üzere, bu anlaşmalardan beklenen dünyadaki insan hakları ihlallerini engellemesi ve
kozmopolit dünya düzeninin sağlanmasıydı. Buna rağmen, egemen devletler
tarafından oluşturulan bugünkü ‘dünya düzeninin’ ‘kozmopolit bir düzen’ olarak
adlandırılması mümkün değildir çünkü insan hakları ihlalleri bazı bölgelerde hiçbir
zaman son bulmamıştır. ‘İhlal’ ve ‘düzen’ kavramlarının birlikte kullanılması oldukça
ironik olsa da bizim düşüncemize göre insan hakları ihlallerinin istikrarlı şekilde devam
etmesi ‘başka bir dünya düzeninin gereğidir. Sonuç olarak bugünkü düzen,

Reading Armeno-Turkish novels narratologically in the context of the nineteenth-century modern Ottoman novel : Akab Hikyayesi and Bir Sefil Zevce
No full textIn this study, Akabi Hikyayesi (1851), written by Hovsep Vartanyan (Vartan Pasha),
and Bir Sefil Zevce (1868), written by Hovsep Maruş, are analyzed narratologically. In
the first section of the study, different basic terms and approaches related to
narratology are examined. In the second and third sections of the study, the novels
are discussed in terms of narrator(s), focalization, time, and space. In this way, this
thesis aims to question the positions of Akabi Hikyayesi and Bir Sefil Zevce within the
context of the nineteenth-century modern Ottoman novel (or Tanzimat-period
novel). In doing so, I hope to fill the basic gaps in the interpretations of these novels
so far. The reason why I study the novels narratologically is that narratology can be
used as an objective method of identifying possible deficiencies in novels’ existing
readings. The objectivity, here, corresponds to analyzing the narrative structures of
novels only through the basic concepts of narratology, regardless of the socio
cultural, historical, political, religious-ethnic, and moral judgments and justifications
at the time when the novels were composed and published. In other words, I aim to
problematize the sufficiency of reading Akabi Hikyayesi and Bir Sefil Zevce through
the most common themes related to nineteenth-century Ottoman novels. When
studied narratologically, it is clear that analyzing these novels only through common
themes and conflicts associated with the nineteenth-century Ottoman novel is not
sufficient; and it may even lead to misinterpretations related to the narrative
structures of these novels. Narratological readings of Akabi Hikyayesi and Bir Sefil
Zevce will ensure that the narrative structures of the novels are correctly identified and will also reinforce their literary position in the context of the nineteenth-century
Ottoman novel. In this way, I aim to enrich the existing literary analyzes both of
